Quite recently there’s been news about the paintings of Alphonse Mucha. The city of Prague wants to send Mucha’s large paintings of the “Slav Epic” (his masterpiece which took 18 years to paint) on tour to Asia for two years. The issue is that Mucha’s relatives and art historians/conservators say the paintings will be damaged if they do go on tour (they have been in the past). Mucha’s grandson is now suing the city of Prague to stop it.

So right now there’s an online petition to save Mucha’s Slav Epic from going on tour so it does not get damaged. The petition is in Czech (from “The Association for the Conservation and Development of the Cultural Heritage in the Czech Republic”) but there is an English version at the top of the site menu… it might make a difference if people from around the world signed. It would show how important Mucha’s art and preservation of it is…. When the paintings were donated to the city of Prague in 1928 the city was supposed to build a gallery exclusively for this series of paintings but never did (that was the only condition they had) :/ So if you’re passionate about art, saving art and art nouveau, here is the petition.
