Victory, marble sculpture (1851) Christian Daniel Rauch (German, 1777–1857) depicted the winged Nike just as she prepares to toss an oak wreath to a champion. This "Garland-hurling Victory" was his favorite design because it moved away from rigid military imagery to a more human and graceful goddess.
