Today is the 123rd anniversary of the word "paraphilia" being coined.
It was coined in 1903 by a Jewish ethnographer F. S. Krauss in an article titled "Psychopathia sexualis", where he opposed medicalization of non normative sexuality. The original text is in German, but my boyfriend made a translation several years ago.
I have the same objection to the expression "sexual perversion" as to "psychopathia sexualis". Here, too, the word conceals a condemnation from the outset, which should not be put in front of scientific discussions at least, so as not to influence the conclusion. As a replacement for both terms I would like to suggest another, again a Greek one, paraphilia (ĻĪ±ĻĪ¬ĻĪ¹Ī»ĪÆĪ±), for which I know of no evidence from the old Greek usage, but which is formed similar to the word ĻĪ±ĻĪ¬Ī½ĪæĪ¹Ī± (ignorance, foolishness, madness) and simply indicates a form deviating from ordinary love and not corresponding to the nature of correct love, the purpose of which must be the fertilization of the woman. The epithet would then be paraphiletic (ĻĪ±ĻĪ±ĻĪ¹Ī»Ī·ĻĪæĻ). In the following I want to make use of this new term, which has the additional advantage of saving us a word each time. In the great majority of cases, says Bloch, medical examination yields no evidence whatsoever of the existence of a pathological basis for sexual abnormality. Individual minor symptoms or even mere "nervousness", which is so widespread today in all classes of the population, are certainly not enough to describe paraphiletic acts or conditions as "morbid". Rather, there is no doubt that all paraphilias can also occur in mentally and physically healthy people who must be considered to be of "sound mind" in every respect.
I feel like "my kink is emotional intimacy" type jokes have gone from funny juxtaposition to people just using it as a jokey way to call themselves morally pure.

I do still lose like one or two followers whenever i post about being a consang ally and it really is annoying to me bc like. Look I've already got pretty radical ideas, and if you follow me you probably agree with a fair chunk of those ideas, or at least see where theyre coming from. Which tells me most of my followers are capable of doing some level of material analysis. But like when consang comes to the table, suddenly those same people seem to let their discomfort overpower them.
And like, again, I think the discomfort is understandable, because we've all been trained to associate "romantisexual relationships between relatives" with abuse, and eugenecist fantasies of every possible child of that couple dying a horrible death. I get it. But if you can't direct your material analysis against your own discomfort you arent gonna get an actual rational set of beliefs, you're gonna just reinforce your biases with progressive language. You'll be exactly as reactionary as your average Liberal (at minimum)! But if you stop and you actually analyse it, you'll break through that discomfort and be able to support more folks in need AND enjoy more of life, so like. Why not do so?
But I suppose thats not as easy as just clicking the unfollow. *shrugs* i guess i should be grateful I'm still gaining more followers than im losing, and that i have yet to get on any assholes radar over this, but it still hurts. It hurts because the consang friends I've made are truly wonderful people, just absolutely beautiful and creative and undeserving of even an ounce of the hate they recieve. I hope someday they can all love as freely as any of us can.
Hello world, I've come to you with a short post today about some art I made for NNIAS MAP remembrance week last June 6th
I already typed alot about what I was going for on NNIA but here's a summary for all of you for each image;
For the 1st the theme was for the isolated self hating maps I choose to take a walk and took a picture of a power line, a fence and some trees but their not very visible here. I picked the power line to be a subject mostly because I feel like the internet helped me a lot as a once isolated MAP.
2nd image, I found an old picture of my childhood homes bathroom and the shadows of morning on it I picked it because the theme for that day was for MAPS we lost and I felt like showing how their shadow reflects upon us even now was sum cool especially because I had fond memories of watching those shadows in my bathroom.
3rd the theme was maps that changed our lives so i had made fanart of the sona of a familiar online acquaintance of mine paper_crook (on NNIA) I have pretty bad anxiety posting online (I'm using anxiety as an adjective no doctor confirmed thingy) and even just his presence in liking my things on Xelebre helped me alot so I figured fan art would be fun.
4th, the theme was the MAP community and mutual support so I decided to make fanart of rondomi that day if you don't know their a pretty cool youtuber that have made alot of videos about para activism and the such (https://youtube.com/@redrondomi-ml8zm you should check them out if anything I saw here interests you) I wouldn't have found out about NNIA or even 1.1 percent of the online para community if it wasn't for him.
5th the theme was the diversity of our attractions and I made something of Ashmes sona guys done a lot for the para communities destigmatization even beyond MAPs so I saw him as one of the best way to represent that.6th, I did some finger painting of the flags colours and added some yellow because why not lol, the theme was overlooked maps (eg women POC etc) as a POC non-binary holding origins and living in the global south (Africa) I felt like representing myself a little cause I haven't met any maps like me yet >< (plenty of minorities though lol)
Finally the 7th! I took a picture outside of my apartment during sunrise and pasted the colours over it lol. The theme was MAP spite and joy so then a sunrise is pretty symbolic isnt it~
Anyways my work is pretty mid and my summary is pretty bare bones but! I had fun, made some ppl happy and that's all that I gaf about Imao, this post is intended to remind the paras of Tumblr there is spaces u can totally go to if you simply want to exist as a para on the web with no censorship and fellowship with other paras!
I recommend signing up to NNIA either you just want a space to vent into the void without prying concerns about this and that, want to read more philosophy concerning youth liberation, activism and things they'd call "woke shit" (either as an ally or para ^o^), or simply want to a separate private social media. NNIA is madston built but completely disconnected from other pedi servers as well as requires a log in to view posts on top of that your posts will all be non viewable the moment you delete your account, so if you're looking for privacy and anonymity I have a feeling you'd enjoy it there. [some people] will claim to "support all consensual love", then look at you like you murdered someone in front of them when you ask "even same-blood love?"
Is it really so hard to imagine that consang isn't a kink thing? That maybe, just maybe, some people happen to fall in real, honest love with those they are related to? I suppose viewing it as some perversion makes it easier to dismiss, to decide "this is just another freak for me to insult", but that doesn't make it so.
I'm old enough to remember when every straight person was convinced, CONVINCED, that gay couples were into it for exclusively sexual reasons! Despite every second of the AIDS crisis displaying the lengths of love these couples would go for eachother, reactionary narratives maintained the majority. It wasn't until much later that the "love is love" narrative finally caught hold, and now...to say gay people are in it exclusively for sex is considered as backwards as can be.
And honestly, even if it is sexual for some, I don't see why that is deserving of disrespect. Sex is a normal part of life. What matters is if anyone is hurt, and in consang...nobody really is.
But again, consanguiphobes don't want to admit that, because that means they do not get to be the good guy. They have to admit they have done harm, and go through the work of improving. And who on earth wants to do that?
