The light moves, when he walks.Ā
You noticed it the first time you met. Youād walked up to the building, shifting on your feet and peer at the buttons, and heād elbowed right past you with a grunted apology.Ā
āSorry, gonna be late- Shit-ā
Heād walked right into the glass.Ā
You like to think of yourself as at least an okay person. The kind that helps someone, when they run into a door like a bird. But youād still almost laughed, at the dazed expression on his face as he stumbled back. Youād laughed, and youād caught his arm to steady him. It had made you falter a little bit as well, because heād been a lot heavier than you expectedāeven for someone so tallerāand youād sunk your nails into his arm. His bicep had flexed under your hand.Ā
Heād grabbed your wrist with a grunt, both of you finding footing at the same time, and looked you right in the eyes.Ā
Heād had the prettiest eyes youād ever seen in your damn life. His lashes might be longer than yours, the dark green almost hypnotizing, and his face-Ā
You hadnāt known men were allowed to look like that. Youād been so sure that the face looking at you was from a dream. Full lips and strong features, a slightly crooked nose and, sharp clean-shaven jaw.Ā
Youād blinked at him slowly. Held on a little tighter, in case this was a dream. Morning mist had bitten at your fingers, but his body had been warm. The haze of it all made it feel like a dream, and youād leaned a little forward, but-Ā
There had been ice under your feet. Youād slipped with a tiny yelp.Ā
Heād grabbed you quickly. Wide eyed with an arm around your waist, pulling you a little closer. Your ankle had hurtānot a dreamāand his breath had turned to fog over your face. Only a foot or so apart, something magnetic pulling you closer, something louder in your brainācall it a survival instinctāmaking you place a hand on his chest to stop yourself from melting into this complete stranger.Ā
His mouth had curved into a small grin.Ā The light had moved.Ā
āHi.ā
āHey.ā Youād swallowed. āAre you-ā
āIām good.ā Heād shrugged lazily. Still looking at you. āYou?ā
That had been a lie. Youād never felt anything like this, that made your heart go to your ears and your whole body sing. Light by an electric fire, sparking when his thumb brushed a small line over your waist.
He mightāve seen right through you. His smile had grown.Ā
āYou slip on ice while standing a lot?ā Heād teased.Ā
āYou run into glass doors a lot?ā
Heād stared at you for a second. Youād bitten your tongue. You didnāt need to be that angry, that defensive, you didnāt even know him and he probably thought you were some kind of standoffish bitch-Ā
Heād laughed. Loud and clear, the first note of a song youād been waiting to hear all your life. Your heart had skipped in your chest, and fallen into a beat youād never felt before. It had felt right. He, with his arm around you and a wide smile on his face, had felt right.Ā
Then heād pulled back, grabbing your arms to make sure you were steady on the ground, before coughing and rubbing the back of his neck. Still smiling. Still so close.Ā
āGuess I donāt. Was just in a rush to get inside, I think I got someone waitinā on me- Not like that.ā Heād added quickly, ears going red. āI live upstairs, and my friend moved in with her girlfriend, and my brother was crashing with his girlfriend but they found a place and now I- Never mind.ā Heād shaken his head, making a face that at the time you hadnāt fully understood.Ā
Even now, you donāt understand. Heās only ever made the face when heās talking to you. You know, because you watch everything he does.
Just to see if he knows he has your heart. That itās wrapped around his hands, to pull and play with however he pleases. That he grabbed it when he caught you slipping, and heād left a depression on your body where heād touched you so easily. Fit so perfectly. You watch him all the time, because thereās nothing better than just watching someone you love.Ā
You hadnāt known you loved him then. Youād only known that heād seemed nervous, and it had been sweet. That his face had been confused and adorable, even if you were able to place why.Ā
Heād extended his hand, an almost sheepish smile on his face.Ā āDean Winchester. Thatās- My name.āĀ
You wouldāve giggled, if you hadnāt been so busy panicking. Youād heard that name before. It was saved in your phone, along with the ad.Ā
And when youād said your own name, youād seen it hit him too. Youād slip your hand into his, fingers shakingāthe cold or nerves, youāre still not sureāand heād still felt right. So right. His fingers and wrapped, safe and firm around yours, and in another life you wonder if he wouldāve pulled you forward into his arms.Ā
But you donāt live in that life. You live where he needed a roommate, and you needed a place to live, and that was more important than anything else. That wasnāt something you had the luxury to jeopardize, even for Dean.Ā
And you know now. Youād jeopardize a lot of things for Dean.
āI think youāre supposed to be waitinā upstairs for me.ā Heād rasped, and youād laughed weakly.Ā
āI couldnāt get in the building.ā
āOh- Uh- Right.ā Heād glanced at the doors. Still holding your hand.Ā
You hadnāt wanted him to let go.Ā
āAt least youāre not late.ā Youād said with a smile, and heād look back to you.Ā
His eyes had shined, and in the mist, heād still looked like an angel. A little more solid and real, but somehow less tangible. A little further away, but right in your hands at the same time. The light had moved. Heād chuckled, and it had moved something deep in your chest. Something final, shifting where it was supposed to be, as you flushed under Deanās gaze.Ā
āYeah.ā Heād said. āI guess Iām not.ā
You have this whole life, in your head.Ā
Itās a habit you built when you were a kid. Itās not a good one. Enough ghosted therapist have told you that for you to know.Ā But knowing has never been your issue.Ā
You know a lot of things. You know yourself. You know that living where no one else can see makes you lonely, and you know that you canāt complain about the silence when you never speak. You know that every time someone asks you if thereās something going on there and you say no, itās a lie you feel in the pit of your stomach. You know every time you hear soft laughter from his room and smell the perfume in the morning, it makes you so sick you might just vomit your guts all over the floor to see if heāll clean them up.Ā
But you also know Dean.Ā And you canāt tell anymore. If that makes it better or worse.Ā
You know him so well he might as well just be another part of you. You know what kind of shampoo and toothpaste he uses, because you buy it for him at the corner store. You know he likes hot sauce but canāt handle it as well as he claims, because youāve watched him eat a hundred burritos with a proud smirk, only for his face to go red and his voice to get rough as he pretends he doesnāt want milk.Ā
You know he wears boxer briefs, because you do his laundry. You know he canāt sing for shit, because you hear him in the shower. You know heās an amazing cook, because he makes you breakfast, and lunch, and dinner.Ā
Youāve told him he doesnāt have to do that. He always rolls his eyes, and ignores you, and youāre more grateful for it than youāll ever be able to say.Ā
You never want him to stop doing it. It feeds your small little worldāthe one you entertain at night before you sleep, the one that keeps you going when you walk into the apartment, and heās on the couch with some random girl with a smile thatās brighter than yours and words that are softerābecause they donāt get to have that part of him.Ā
Not one girl that Dean lets into his bedāthe one place in the whole damn apartment youāre not allowed to be, the one place youād trade anything to be given just a glimpseāgets to stay until morning. They leave with a stomping feet and a slam of the door, and you hug your sheets as you hear Dean shuffle around outside your door.Ā
Heāll sigh loud enough to be heard through the walls. The shower will run, and youāll bury your face in a pillow, hiding the shame of your arousal from the ceiling.Ā
You have no right, to picture him naked under the water. To imagine his broad chest and strong legs, the ripple of his muscles as he stretches to wash his hair with the shit you bought him. How he might bow his head to stare at you, if you massaged the soap into his soft, spiky hair. How close heād be, how he might lick his lips, how his big hands would land on your hips.Ā
How youād sink to the floor, and run a hand up his thigh. How youād tilt your head, pressing your cheek near his groin, how he might mutter your name and cradle your head as his chest began to rise and fall in an unsteady rhythm.Ā
No right. You hump the sheets like some pathetic animal, and you muffle moans of his name into your sheets long after heās back in bed, but you have no right.Ā
You donāt know how you look him in the eyes, in the morning, but it might be something about how itās just you. His nightly company is gone. Thereās a vulnerability, in how he shuffled around in hot dog pants and presents you with breakfast.
āPancakes.ā He mutters, ears red. āYou, uh- Bought all those bananas. I cooked āem into it. Lemme know if itās shit.ā
You hum, pulling the plate closer. āIt wonāt be shit, Dean-ā
āCould be. One day I might lose my touch.ā
āNo, you wonāt.ā You roll your eyes, and he smirks.
āStop back talking and eat the damn pancakes.ā
āThat wasnāt back talking-ā
āIām sharing my fears, and youāre being invalidating-ā
āOh, shut up, I taught you what that word means.ā
āThat was your mistake.ā He grins, leaning over the counter. Eyes locked on yours, hair still messy from sleep.Ā
The light moves.Ā
āYou gotta know I donāt like lessons, sweetheart.ā
You flush, and look down to the pancakes. You never know what to do, when he uses that voice on you. The deep one that makes your face heat, that feels like heās testing a line youāve told yourself youāre not allowed to cross. Itās the voice he uses on his company, and you know itās just teasing, but it feed your dreams. It feeds the world you know isnāt real, that heās never allowed to see.
āYou made these with banana?ā You say after a long silence, your face burning. āI love banana.ā
Dean coughs, and when you look up, heās making that strange face.Ā
āYeah, uh- I know. I gotta go- Bathroom. Need to piss. And- Shit.ā
You blink at him, and he almost takes off down the hall.
āI didnāt need to know that!ā You call after him, and he shouts back.Ā
āYeah, but I wanted you to!ā
You laugh despite yourself, and look back to the pancakes. Itās just food. Heās just cooking for you, which he does all the time, but itās still something thatās only yours. The smallest part of Dean that you get to keep.Ā
Food.Ā The only part of him thatās only yours.Ā Itās priceless to you. Itās the most important thing in the world.Ā
Because you live in your head. And in your head, you dream about a life where he loves you back. Where every time he comes home he walks over to you and picks you up. Kisses you on the counter, then pushes you down and eats you out like youāre the only dinner heād ever possibly need. Where when you do his laundry, he comes up behind you and kisses your neck. Mutters something about you wearing his shirt, or wishing youād just leave everything dirty so he could have you naked all the time.Ā
In your head, you never have to turn on the shower to cover your tears when he brings another woman home. You never have to stare at yourself in the mirror, and pick apart your every feature and expression to try and rationalize why itās not you. Why you donāt get to have him, why heās out there touching someone else, what they can give him that you canāt. You give him everything. Youād give him more, if he let you.Ā
But he doesnāt.Ā And jealousy burns. It scars. It worms its way into your heart and festers, until youāre glaring at his door and curling your fists, fighting the urge to slam on the walls when you hear a high, pitchy whine of Dean through the wall. Some nights, the jealously turns in your stomach and you find yourself over the toilet bowl, literally sick with it.Ā
The worst part is that heās not doing it to be cruel. To mock or taunt you.Ā Heās just not thinking of you at all.Ā
After about a year of living with him, something in you had snapped. He might not think of you, but all you do is think of him, and if youāre going to be suck in the lonely and violent cycle, you might as well even your own playing field.Ā
Dean doesnāt know it, but youāve turned it into a sick kind of game. Itās not a healthy one, or one youāre ever going to win, but winning isnāt the point.Ā
Numbing is the point.Ā Escaping.Ā Being anything but a toy that doesnāt get played with, stuck on the other side of the wall and picking at your skin until it bleeds.Ā
You start going to bars. Not the one down the streetāthatās where Dean goesābut one a few streets up. Itās next to a club made of suffocating heat and too many bodies that arenāt safeāarenāt Deanābut it does just fine. Some nights you go to the bar. Some you go to the club.Ā
But you always come home with some nameless body attached to your hip. Kissing over your throat and mumbling your name. Touching your skin in a million different ways but never leaving a single dent. You let them sleep in your bed to one up Dean, but kick them out before heās up. You wash their hands off in the morning, because your skin burns every single place they touched.Ā
Dean notices. He doesnāt say anything, but you know he notices. His flow of women seems to pick up, but you canāt prove it.Ā
You stop fucking yours at the apartment. You find beds all over the city, and stumble home in the morning with mess hair and your shoes in your hand.Ā Then you push your way through the door one morning, and find that Deanās girl from last night-Ā
Sheās still there. Sitting at the counter drinking coffee, wearing his shirt.
āOh, hi.ā She blinks at you slowly. āUm- Dean?!ā
āYeah?ā He pokes his head out from the bathroom, damp hair stuck to his brow.Ā
His eyes find yours. Theyāre strangely blank. You give him a weak smile, and his nostrils flare, his mouth twitching down.Ā
āYouāre back.ā He grunts. āYou take the bus?ā
You toss your shoes onto the mat. āI walked.ā
āYou walked-ā
āYeah. Thatās what I said.ā
Dean works his jaw, still staring at you. The girl clears her throat.Ā
āSorry, who are you?ā
You open your mouth, but Dean beats you to the punch.
āSheās my roommate.ā He mutters. His eyes tear away from yours, onto the girl. He looks her up and down, something sour in his expression that she seems to miss.Ā
āHm.ā She gives you a look of distain that makes you feel small. āI didnāt know you lived with a girl.ā
āWasnāt something you need to know.ā He runs a hand over his face, looking down to his watch. āShit- You eaten yet?ā
You and the girl both say no at the same time. She looks like she wants to murder you. You want to run back outside, but your legs are rooted in place, so you just pray the floor will open up and swallow you whole.Ā
āI havenāt eaten yet, Deanie.ā She looks back to Dean, lashes fluttering. āAnd you really worked up my appetite.ā
There it is again. The sickness. You already drank too much, and you can barely remember last night, and youāre going to scream at the floor while all your love spills out with your bile-
āThereās a cafe down the block.ā Dean shrugs. āStop there on your way out. They got good muffins.āĀ
The girl blinks in confusion, opening her mouth, and Dean slams the bathroom door closed. Leaving you stuck with this woman in his shirt, in your home, shattering the small sanctity youād built up, the last thread that maybe Dean thought about you enough to keep his nights shielded from your eyes.Ā
Thereās really no reason why he would. He has no idea, that your love for him runs so deep you suddenly canāt stand to be wearing the socks the guy from last night lent you. They feel wrong on your feet. Like bricks, pulling you down, down, down.Ā
You walk past the furious girl, not meeting her eyes. When you hear Dean out in the hall, saying something to her in a hushed voice, you slip out of your room and into the shower without a glance in their directions. You donāt vomit. You do scrub your skin so hard it burns.Ā
And you canāt keep up the charade of just fucking around. It doesnāt do what itās supposed to, when you just spend every night picturing Deanās hands, Deanās mouth, Deanās body. When every voice is blocked out in favor of imagining Deanās. Youāre not built for whatever corner youāve backed yourself into. Itās going to eat you alive from the inside.Ā
When you get out of the shower, the girl is gone. Deanās still in the kitchen, standing in front of the stove. You sit at the counter, and try not to feel too aware of the space sheād been in. Try not to wonder if heās feeling her absence, the same way you look around the clubs and bars, glance up and down every strange hallway and street, and hope that maybe heāll appear out of thin air and catch you when youāre not even falling at all.Ā
Not falling in a way he can see, at least.Ā But you are. Further and further, the wind gone from your lungs, your heart beat still drumming that same song. Dean, Dean, Dean.Ā Not yours, not yours, not yours.Ā
āYou want pepper?ā He cuts through your thoughts, and you look up at him with a frown.
āWhat?ā
āI made eggs.ā Heās not looking at you. His ears are red. āI, uh- I kinda already salted them, but- You always take them with salt. I can start over. If you donāt like it.ā
You blink at him. Shake your head slowly.Ā He cooked for you.Ā
The space where the other girl used to be suddenly doesnāt feel like anything at all.Ā
āSalt is good.ā You whisper, and he looks over his shoulder.
āYou sure?ā
āYeah.ā You smile at him. His mouth twitches up, and something foolish and unbreakable soars in your chest. āIām sure.ā
He stopped sleeping around.Ā
And maybe heās just hiding it better than before, but you choose to believe that he isnāt. That heās home every night because he wants to spend time with you, rather than a girl heās going to kick out in the morning.Ā
You were friends before. Youād become friends the day he helped you move in and he made a stupid joke that you laughed at. Heād grinned so widely it made your gut flutter, and then asked what kind of movies you liked. Youād told him, and made a tradition out of watching at least one movie, every Friday night.Ā
It was a holy night, Friday night. Even when youād been forcing yourself into painful shapes to fit in others arms, and heād been pulling women through the door without a glance in your direction, youād both still honored movie night. Youād curl up under a blanket together, and switch back and forth between who chose what. Dean would hold the popcorn in his lap, and youād allow yourself close enough to get drunk onĀ his leather and spice smell, to absorb the feeling of his shoulder bumping yours and let it all carry you through the week.Ā
Sometimes youād yell at the screen together. Sometimes youād both get quiet, genuinely entranced by the film. But you always ended up with your thighs pressed together under that blanket. Always talk after, for about an hour, before something would shift and youād both just stare. The dark wasnāt dark enough to hide how handsome he was. The warmth of the blanket became nothing compared to the heat of your face. The heat in your stomach. The haze of the TV made you feel like you were back in that misty dream, and Dean-Ā
Heād cough. Lean back, patting your leg awkwardly then mutter goodnight. Vanish into his room, and leave you stranded and alone on the couch. Youād touch your leg where heād left his mark. Crawl back to your own room and bunch the sheets between your thighs, letting your mind drift into the world where he pulled you to your feet. Guided you into his room, and lain you down on his bed.Ā
And he never does that. You know he never will.Ā But after the river of women that had threatened to drown you, things change.Ā One night, the movie finishes, and you talk.Ā And talk. And talk. And the hour passes, and Dean doesnāt leave.Ā
āWhatās your favorite animal?ā
You giggle, your feet up on the coffee table and body slumped down into the cushion. āWhatās my favorite animal?ā
āYeah? Why, am I not allowed to ask you a fuckinā question?ā
āNo, I just wasnāt expecting that question. Itās like- Weāre in elementary school, and youāre asking me like a stupid ice breaker.ā You roll a little onto your side, grinning up at him in the dark. āWhatās your favorite color?ā
You say it teasingly. He just shrugs, and holds your gaze.Ā
āBlue.ā He sounds dead serious. āLike a kinda- Watery silver blue.ā He sinks lower into the couch. Closer to your side. āBig fan of brown, too. And red.ā He whistles. āLove a good red. You?ā
You stare at him for a second. āMe?ā
āYeah. Whatās your favorite color?ā
āUm- Rainbow?ā You flush, looking down to your nails. āI was never able to decide.ā
āOn a favorite color?ā
āYeah. Didnāt want any of them to feel left out.ā
Dean chuckles. āāCourse you didnāt.ā
You frown up at him. āWhat does that mean-ā
āNothing.ā He shrugs, nudging your shoulder lightly. āYou owe me a favorite animal.ā
āI owe you-ā
āYeah. Weāre playing twenty questions, sweetheart. Itās my turn, and I wanna know your favorite animal.ā
You stare at him, trying to weigh out if heās joking. And heās smiling down at you, so strangely soft, but still serious. This isnāt a bit. Not a joke, or a prank. He just⦠Really seems to want to know.Ā
āI like cats.ā You whisper, testing the waters. He sighs.
āI hate cats.ā
āWhat?ā You sit up. āWhy?ā
He gives you an amused look. āIām allergic.ā
āSo?ā
āSo I donāt like things that make me stop breathing.ā
You roll your eyes. āPussy.ā
He snorts. āYou think Iām a pussy for not wanting to die?ā
āYeah.ā You stick your tongue out at him, then squeak when he pinches your thigh. āDean!ā
Heās laughing. Only laughs louder, when he tries to go in again and you kick his hand away. You try to aim for his chest, but he catches you ankle. You scream, when he runs his fingers up your foot, and his laughter turns to wheezing when you punch him square in the diaphragm.Ā
āShit. I think you killed me, sweetheart.ā
āYou earned it.ā You snap at him, and he just chuckles.
āYeah, guess I did. Can you speak at my funeral?ā
āNo.ā
āCāmon, itās my dyinā wish-ā
āMake a better one.ā
He laughed again, grinning up at you with such an intoxicating light in his eyes. Your bodies are closer together than you realized. Your feet still in his lap, his hand holding you ankle, his thumb rubbing small circles.Ā
āI canāt think of a better one.ā He says, still grinning at you, and you smile back.
āGood thing youāre not dying, then.ā
āYeah,ā he squeezes your ankle, and you melt a little further into every single part of this moment. His eyes on yours. His touch against your skin. The pure attention, that doesnāt seem to be fleeting or clung to at all. āYouād miss me too much.ā
You snort, and pretend to kick him again, but you still flush.Ā He has no idea.Ā
That night, you stay up until dawn. The next day, you drift through work with the stupidest smile on your face. The next nightāa night that Dean would usually go out to drink, even if heās not bringing anyone homeāhe makes burgers and sits across from you. Clears his throat, after only a few moments of silence.Ā
āWhatāre you doinā?ā He asks, and you look up with a frown.
āReading and eating?ā
He nods, tapping his finger on the table. āReading what?ā
āA⦠Book?ā
That earns you a flat look. āWhat book, smartass.ā
āOh.ā You flush, looking down to your kindle then back up with wide eyes. āYou probably wouldnāt know it, or- Like it.ā
Dean just shrugs. āTry me.ā
Again. Heās not joking.Ā So you try him. Slowly at first. Cautiously. Testing the waters, trying to feel out if heās serious, or just trying to make conversation.Ā
You donāt really how long youāve been talking until Dean suddenly reaches across the table and grabs your plate, placing it on top of his empty on.
āItās gone cold.ā He explains with a shrug, moving to his feet. āJust gonna heat it up, you keep talking.ā
You blink at him, but slowly resume. He keeps listening. Really listening. Nodding along and asking questions and echoing back idea, like heās trying to prove heās absorbing what youāre saying.Ā
A new tradition starts. You, telling Dean in unnecessarily deep detail, exactly what youāve been reading, every single week. It kicks off another tradition as well, because in the morning you ask him about what show heās watchingāyou donāt want him to think you donāt also care what heās up toāand instead of him just telling you, he makes you watch an episode.Ā Right next to him on the couch.
And suddenly, every night but Friday, you watch TV together. Weekends you watching in the morning, but you but you still watch.Ā
Saturday nights are saved for you talking about book. Sundays have their own new tradition where you get drunk together, and sit on the floor. Youāre not quite sure how that one started, but you know neither of you seem willing to break it. You share a bottle of wine and stare at the ceiling, or do shots of the table and giggle like teenagers. You tell him all about your parents, he tells you about his brother. You share your dreams, he tells you about his nightmares.Ā
You didnāt know he had nightmares. Apparently his momās family was kind of crazy, and his dad himself wasnāt much better. He enlisted in the marines to make his Dad proud. Got honorably discharged, after an accident that put him in a coma for a few weeks.Ā
āYou never told me that.ā You murmur, staring at your shot glass. He sighs.Ā
āDonāt tell most people. Only Sammy really knows.ā
You swallow, looking up at him. Thereās a golden light from the floor lamp behind him, and itās bending around him the same way it does in a movie. When the hero stands alone on the battlefield, head high and heart strong. Heās just watching you, that same unreadable expression his face, and something a little more. Something afraid.Ā
Afraid isnāt something Dean should be. He gets spiders for you when they sneak into the shower. He holds your hand when you freak out about horror movies, and grabbed you off the fire escape that one time you played truth or dare, and youād been more drunk than either of you realized.Ā
If you were a little less drunk, you mightāve been able to remember the panic in his eyes, and how loud his voice had gotten when heād shouted your name. Mightāve been able to think about the look in his eyes when he finally pulled you back inside, and youād collapsed in a fit of giggles in his arms, completely oblivious to the danger youād been in. How heād put you to bed, how tenderly heād brushed the hair from your eyes.
How heād kissed your brow goodnight, and held your hand when youād grabbed his in your sleep.Ā
But you donāt. And all you can think about is how Dean isnāt somehow who should ever have to be afraid.Ā You reach over the table and grab his hand. Give him a small smile, and squeeze lightly.Ā
āThank you for telling me.ā
āOf course.ā He rasps. āIād tell you anything, sweetheart.ā
He means that, too. Means it so much, you think it hits your love for him like a missile, and makes it explode. Not in a way of destruction.Ā
The same way a star explodes. The way a garden explodes.Ā Bigger. Full of color, and life.Ā
āYou- You too,ā is all you can think to say back. Dean grins, and you smile back.Ā
You mean it. Almost.Ā Thereās one thing youāre never going to tell him. Something heās never going to need to know.Ā
But in that moment, holding his hand and sitting so easily in the silence, you wouldāve told him.Ā If he asked, you wouldāve told him everything. But he doesnāt.Ā
So you just keep sitting in the dark, Dean the only light you need in the world.Ā
It hits you at the worst time. The realization.Ā Deanās not just the hot roommate youāre in love with anymore.Ā
Heās your best friend.
Itās terrifying. It somehow makes everything better and worse all at the same time. Heāll be in your life for a long, long time. You canāt imagine a world without him anymore, and you think whatever gap he left when he took your heart, heās filled up so well your body might just stop working if you ever lose him.Ā
It solidifies what you already knew. You can never tell him, because it might make him walk away.
But one day heās going to find someone else. Theyāre going to get married. Maybe have babies. Theyāre going to build a part of his life that youāre allowed to witness, but never be a part of. Itās going to kill you, but you quickly decide that youāll let it if you must. Youād rather have him then loose him.Ā
And at least this way, you can try to move on.Ā And you really try to move on.Ā
You download all the apps. You talk to people and get ghosted and land a few dates. You tell Dean you have a dateāon a Wednesday, because the guy wanted Friday, but you couldnāt bring yourself to agreeāand he stares at you like heās never heard the word before.Ā
He opens his mouth. Closes it. Shakes his head, then makes the face.Ā āAlright.ā
You swallow. You donāt know what you wanted him to say. You know it was more than that.Ā
āCan I share my location with you?ā You ask, shifting nervously on your feet. āIn case heās like- An axe murder?ā
Dean doesnāt smile.Ā āSure. Have fun.ā
You nod, some part of you waiting for him to say more. He doesnāt. The most you get is a quick look after you change, his jaw flexing and body shifting. You offer him a nervous smile and ask if itās goodātrying to at least pretend that youāre not mostly wearing such a short dress for him to seeāand he just nods. Looks back to his phone, his voice low and oddly strained.Ā
āYou look amazing.ā He grunts. āHeāll have to be crazy not to like it.ā
Itās all you get out of him. Not enough to really inflate into something. More than enough to take over your thoughts for the rest of night, to the point that youāre staring at the man across the table and forgetting his name, because all your brain can do is dissect what Dean meant by amazing.Ā
He turned out to be right. The nameless man wolf whistled when he saw you. Showered you in compliments that only made you smile sheepishly, placing a hand on your lower back and cooing something suggestive you canāt even remember anymore.Ā
Youād feel worse about how little attention youāre paying to him, if he wasnāt only talking about himself. Youād have some level of guilt, if he didnāt try to get you into his taxi at the end of the night despite having not asked a single question about your life. Daydreaming about Dean turned out to be the most effective use of your time, with how the night went.Ā
But only this night.Ā Because the pattern repeats.Ā You go on a date. You tryāa little hard every single timeāand a handful of times, you even make it to a third or fourth date. You sleep with a few of them, two or three a few times. Once, you get far enough with a perfectly nice guy name Jake that you let him come back to your apartment.Ā
Far enough that he meets Dean.Ā And thatās where it all falls apart.Ā
Every guy that doesnāt make it past the first date, itās because youāre too lost in thoughts of Dean. If they do get that second time, itās because you can squint at them and see him instead. The men you sleep with have builds that are similar. The ones you sleep with twice have voices.Ā
And with Jake, you only really see it when he and Dean are standing in the same room. When he reaches out with a weary expression, and Dean takes his hand with a scowl.Ā
āYou must be Dean.ā Jake says slowly, and Dean nods.
āMust be, huh.ā He shrugs, his knuckles white. āWish I could say I knew who you were, buddy, but I got no damn clue.ā
You want to sink into the floor or jump out the window, because itās so painfully obvious. With Jake. With Michael, after Jake leaves. With Shawn, after Michael gives up.Ā
Then again, when Shawnāa little slower than the other twoāsees it as well.Ā
āIs there⦠Something with you and Dean.ā
āNo.ā You mutter, not convincing yourself. āWeāre just close friends.ā
āReally?ā
āMhm.ā
Shawn says your name, and you hug your legs to your chest. You know whatās coming. Youāve even started hearing it from people who only make it to the third date, when you talk about him too much. From that one guy with a voice that was a little too close, who had to deal with you moaning the wrong name.Ā
āYeah?ā
Shawn is a little slow. He doesnāt get it on the nose, but heās more than close enough.Ā
āYou know, you might not see it, but- You and Dean⦠I donāt like it.ā
āWhy? Weāre just-ā
āI swear to god, donāt say friends.ā Shawn snaps. āYou never look at me the way you look at him! Never smile at me, never listen- You hang out with him more than me, you cancel dates because he asked you to, you just let him toss you around like youāre a toy-ā
Your head snaps up, voice going cold. āDonāt talk about him like that.ā
Shawn scoffs. āCome on. You have to hear yourself-ā
āHeās my friend-ā
āIām sure you think that.ā Shawn spits. āBut I know. Dean knows. Everyone knows youāre just his bitch.ā
You leave. Stand up, and march out the door. When Shawn tries to follow you, you flip him off and tell him that if he ever speaks to you again, youāre going to call the police.Ā
He scoffs. āOr youāre just going to sic Dean on me. That fucking asshole will probably do whatever you ask, like a fucking dog.ā
You punch him, and run. Youāre not sure if heāll chase. You donāt want to find out.Ā Once youāre a few blocks away, you call Dean. He told you to call him, if you ever needed a ride home. Youāve never taken him up on it, because after that morning with the girl, there had been a rotting fear of him seeing you like that again.Ā
But itās dark. And youāre cold, and tired. He said he didnāt want you walking home alone.Ā
He picks up after two rings. Doesnāt ask questions, when you tell him where you are or when he pulls up to the curb.Ā
He brought a blanket and ice cream. You wrap yourself in it, and give him a weak smile as you slide into the Impala. Your eyes are heavy, your eyes red and fingers shaking, but Dean only looks you up and down, and mutters one soft question.
āYou okay?ā
You nod, and pull the blanket a little tighter. You are now. Heās here.Ā
And some small part of it feels good. Shawn was the first guy in a while that you got to break up with.Ā
All the others left because they realized they were just faded, poorly done copies of Dean. Right down to the flannel and voice. Right down to everything but Deanās irreparable, impossible smile. Right down to everything but his light.Ā
āYou want me to beat him up?ā He asks while youāre stuck at a red light.Ā
You laugh weakly, and shake your head. āNo. Thank you, though.ā
āAnytime.āĀ
Thereās a long silence, but it doesnāt ache. Doesnāt feel anything but peaceful. Anything but safe. You keep eating your ice cream. You offer Dean a bite, and he takes it with a small grin. He turns up the music just enough and looks to you for approval on the song. You offer it with a smile.Ā
Your head slowly drops onto his shoulder. He tenses but doesnāt move away.Ā After a second, his hand finds your knee. Stays there.Ā
You let out a long, heavy breath. And you know.Ā Youāre not going to be able to move on.Ā
āI need a favor.ā
You look up from your cereal with a frown, the spoon already in your mouth. āHuh?ā
A little milk dribbles down your chin and you scramble to wipe it, face burning with embarrassment. Dean watches with a smirk, raising his brow when your eyes meet, and your hand slips. The spoon falls into the bowl, splashing over your face. More cereal escapes your mouth, and you whine like a child, trying to wipe with your hands.
āSon of a- Jesus, woman.ā Dean passes you a napkin, shit-eating grin on his face. āDonāt hurt yourself.ā
āIām not trying to.ā You grumble, wiping your shirt. āAnd no being mean, you said you needed a favor.ā
āWell, Iām rethinking it now-ā
āDean.ā
He just grins under your glare. Leans forward and laughs like youāre not actively planning his murder.
āYou still got something.ā He points to your chin, and you stick your tongue out at him as you dab it. He snorts. āYou know Iām helping you, right?ā
āFuck you.ā
āNot with milk on your face- Fuck-ā
His hand had slipped. Landed right in your bowl, sending it flying right at his face. You burst out laughing as heās drenched in milk and soggy cereal, a sour expression on his face thatās a little less effective than he probably wants it to be. You can see him fighting the smile.Ā
āShit.ā He groans, running a hand down his face then flinching when he sees the damage on his hand. āGoddammit, this shit is gonna take forever to get out-ā
āItāll be fine.ā You push to your feet with a shrug. āCome on, I can wash it.ā
You start down the hall, and donāt realize that Dean isnāt following until youāre at the bathroom door. You look back, and heās just standing in the kitchen. Mouth in a tight line, milk dripping from his hair, eyes wide.
You frown. āDean, come on. The longer you let it sit the worse itās going to be.ā
You wave him forward, and itās like you tugged on an invisible rope. He stumbles forward, hands dropping awkwardly to his side, and follows you with an oddly nervous expression.Ā Youāre not sure whatās going on with him. Itās just a bathroom.Ā
āSit.ā You point to the floor next to the tub. āPut your head back, and take off your shirt. Iāll wash it later.ā
Dean nods, giving you that strange look before pulling his shirt slowly over his head. He drops it on the closed toilet lid and lowers himself to the floor just as you asked. You kneel at his side, turning on the shower with a sigh. You have shampoo, and a removable shower head. This really shouldnāt be that hard.Ā
It only hit you when you look back to him. What a massive mistake you made.
Deanās shirtless. Close enough that, if you just stretched your fingers, youād be able to touch his chest. His skin, smooth and soft looking. The muscles that shift as he breathes heavily. When your eyes lock onto his, you almost gulp.Ā
Heās staring at you under hooded eyes. His jaw is clenched, his arms stiff at his side.Ā Waiting for you to touch him. Clean him up.Ā Youāre supposed to be cleaning him up.Ā
You take a deep breath, and force your body to move. You wipe the milk off his face while the water gets warm. Rinse his hair, then steel yourself as you rub in the shampoo. Itās so painfully close. So intimate. You feel like youāre invading on yourself. Like youāre doing something so strangely dirty, just by washing his hair.Ā Youād been right, every time you dreamt about it. It is soft.Ā When your fingers brush against his scalp, his whole body shudders, then relaxes. When you repeat the motion, his hands flex.Ā
You canāt keep looking at his body. Itās dangerous. You clear your throat, and try to think of anything else to say.Ā
āWhatās the favor?ā You mumble, and Dean grunts.
āItās- Uh- Nothing. Never mind.ā
You pause, fingers stilling in his hair. āDean. Whatās the favor.ā
āI said never mind-ā
āDean Winchester.ā
He sighs, long and labored. Opens his eyes just enough to examine you through his eyelashes, then closes them again. āYou canāt get pissed. If you donāt wanna do it, just- Say no. And weāll forget it. Okay?ā
You bite your lower lip, but nod. āOh- Okay.ā
āSo.ā He coughs. āYāknow how Sammyās gettinā married?ā
āMhm.ā You focus on his hair, even as your fingers start to shake for no reason at all. Heād called you after his trip to California to help Sam with the ring. Excitedly shown you all the photos after the proposal. Youād been thrilled for him, then sat in this very same tub for an hour, trying not to cry about how that was never going to be you and him. āYou want me to water the flowers?ā
He chuckles softly. āNot exactly. And those are your flowers, sweetheart.ā
āYou bought them.ā
āāCause you were sad about not gettinā a cat, and- Never mind.ā He takes a deep breath. āMy thing is- itās next month. The wedding. I gotta go home for it. And, uh- I was wondering. Just- A thought. Nothinā you gotta commit to right now, but- Thought Iād ask, even if you didnāt wanna-ā
āDean.ā You snap him gently out of the rambling, and he coughs.Ā
āRight. Sorry. Just- Hereās the deal.āĀ
He takes a deep breath, and you stop massaging his hair. He looks so painfully tensed, his whole body seized up, his pretty lips in a tight pout. Heās dragged his eyes open again, and theyāre fixed so nervouslyĀ on yours. Heās grabbed your knee with one hand. Like heās worried youāre going to kick him, or run away.Ā
āMy whole familyās gonna be there.ā He mutters, searching over your face with every word. āTheyāll all be on my ass, about Sammy already settling, and me- Not doinā that.ā He coughs. The red from his ears spreads over his cheeks. āAnd I just figured, if they thought I was gonna settle, maybe⦠The whole thing would be easier. For everyone.ā
You stare at him, the words slowly falling into place in your head. It takes a moment. His hand squeezes on your knee, and it almost knocks them into you. Forces all the meaning into place.Ā
Your mouth falls open. āAre you asking me to-ā
āYeah. But- Only if you want to.ā He gives you a small, boyish grin. āBut Iād owe you. Big time. Like- Iād pay the whole rent for two months big time.ā
You shake your head. āDean, donāt-ā
āIām serious, I really need this-ā
āI know but, thatās so much money, and-ā You sigh, brow furrowing in a tight line. āI donāt know. I donāt know how to do⦠that.ā
He squeezes your knee again. āWeād figure it out. Together.ā Another charming smile. āHow about one favor. Whatever you want. No questions, no expiration. You could use it to get a cat.ā
You laugh weakly, and he squeezes your knee again. Heās giving you almost puppy-like pleading eyes. You donāt know how youāre going to say no, but-Ā
All you want is him. A cat would be nice, but all youāve craved, for so so long, is Dean.Ā And that might be limit of his favor. A limit that might outweigh the toll it comes with.Ā Pretending to be Deanās girlfriend, for a week, with his family. Having everything you want, and making it all play. All a lie. All fake.
āWhy me?ā You ask softly, looking back to his hair. Itās filled with suds. You should probably start washing it soon. āI mean, thereās Charlie. Or- An actress, or Pam from work, sheās nice-ā
āMy mom already knows you.ā Dean cuts you off with low words. āEasier sell, than some random chick sheās never heard of.āĀ
A lump forms in your throat. āYour mom knows me?ā
āYeah. I talk about you.ā
You flush. Itās an impressive feat, the way you manage to force your voice into something teasing instead of confused and hopeful.Ā
āAw, you love me-ā
āShut up.ā He grunts, pinching your knee in the spot he knows makes you squeal.Ā
āDean-ā
āSorry.ā He grins up at you, and he doesnāt sound it. Stupid, perfect asshole. āBut- Please, sweetheart. Please. One favor. Anything.ā
You really shouldnāt agree. You shouldnāt. Itās going to back fire. The love thatās been gnawing at you since that day on the ice is going to finally grow sharp enough to eat you alive.Ā
But he said please.
āOkay.ā You mutter, and he grins.Ā
You canāt find it in you, to regret agreeing. It made Dean smile.
āI hate this.ā He mutters. He hasnāt sat down since you got through security. Youāre a little worried heās going to give himself an aneurysm. āI really fuckinā hate this, I- We should go back. Babyās still in the lot, if we leave now weāll make it-ā
āDean.ā You catch his hand, giving him a firm look. āWe already paid.ā
āFuck- What if we call a bomb threat, they might give us a refund-ā
āOr weāll get arrested. For domestic terrorism.ā You squeeze his hand gently. Offer him a soft smile. āJust sit down. Weāre not even on the plane yet, youāll have plenty of time to freak out later.ā
Dean works his jaw. Looks longingly down the terminal, then back to you. Sighs, and sits with a grunt.Ā You smile, rubbing his back as he glares at the floor. To any outsider, it probably looks like you are dating.Ā
It should. Youāve been practicing.
āIām not freakinā out.ā He grumbles, and you smile affectionately.
āOkay.ā
He scowls. āIām not.ā
āI said okay.ā You hold his glower with a smile. He stares at youāand you could swear his eyes flick to your lips, but you might just be going insaneāand slumps down into the seat.Ā
āI hate this.ā
āI know, De.ā You move your hand to his hair, running your finger through it gently. Just like you did in the bathroom.
Like heās been letting yourself do, since you agreed to the fake dating thing. Heās called it training. You touch each other more, you call him De and he calls you baby. You sit closerāalthough it may just be as close as before, only now youāre allowed to dive right into it instead of inching towards him on the couchāand share food. Youād nailed down a backstory. Negotiated all the small details of your fake relationship, thatās a little too close to the truth for comfort.Ā
But still not real.Ā In moments like this, when youāre touching him causally and heās leaning into it, where youāre in the noise of the airport but it still feels like only you and Dean in the world, you have to remember that itās fake.Ā
āYouāre gonna be okay.ā You offer, and he snorts.Ā
āWeāre gonna die.ā
āNo, weāre not. Itās only a five-hour flight, the worst thing that will happen is they wonāt offer any meals.ā
He laughs, but itās hollow. Heās pacing and playing grumpy, but heās afraid. You know heās afraid. Heād never stood as close to you, as when you were going through security. Youād never seen him so nervous as when you were driving to the airport. You donāt think he even slept last night.Ā
Youāre worried about him. Worried he had one of those nightmares he wonāt talk about, worried heās going to fall over, worried he might actually run. You hook your arm through his, when they start calling boarding. Anchor yourself against him, when youāre the last two people left at the gate, and you have to get on the plane.Ā
It would be cute how jumpy he was, if you werenāt this worried. Youād tease him if he didnāt stumble down the walkway and freeze when he saw the plane door.Ā
You know you had to fly. Baby needed extra work after a bad storm that messed with her tires, and Dean had been so swamped at work he hadnāt gotten the chance. Heād been ready to just push her, until you did the math and realized thatāeven with the earliest you could leaveāyouād only get there on Samās wedding day and get home after both your time off periods had finished. If he wanted this to work, he was going to have to fly.Ā
āWhy couldnāt they just get married in Kansas.ā He whines, and you smile. Buckle him in like heās a toddler, because heās shaking too much to do it himself.
āThey donāt live in Kansas. And itās like- Freezing there right now.ā
āSo? Winter weddings, those can work. Couldāve done, like- Snow photos- Fuck-ā
He shoots up, when the plane starts moving. You sigh, and tug him back down by the collar of his shirt.
āWeāre just going to the runway. Itās fine. Weāre fine.ā You pause, then take his hand.Ā
Really, fully, take his hand. Fingers woven together, palms pressed flat. He pulls on you slightly, tugging your hand with his up over his heart. You give him a soft smile, and he just blinks at you frantically.
āItās okay.ā You keep your voice gentle, and his throat bobs. āYouāre okay.ā
He doesnāt look convinced. His breathing stays shallow. But at the very least, he stops trying to convince you to get off the plane.Ā
You settle in, watching him with a little too much open affection on your face. The sweet old lady in the aisle seat leans over, and asks if your boyfriend needs medical attention. You laugh, and tell her heās okay.Ā
If Dean hears it in your voiceāhow much you adore himāhe doesnāt say anything. Youāre pretty sure heās too focused on his panic to hear anything at all.Ā
He hums Metallica, through the whole take off. Grips your hand so tight you stop feeling your fingers, but you donāt complain. It seems to help. You make it to the air, and heās still conscious.Ā
He does make the mistake of looking out the window. You watch the blood drain from his face, and quickly grab it between your hands.
āWeāre gonna switch seats.ā You say firmly, and he blinks. Nods, clinging to your wrist like itās the only thing tethering him from a complete panic attack.Ā
You shuffle around, and somehow manage to switch without Dean ever letting go of your body. You hit a bit of turbulence, and he looks like he wants to punch something. Stares around the plane with glazed over, almost rabid eyes. Looks at you so desperately, it almost breaks your heart.Ā
Your body moves before your brain can think better. You grab Deanās head again, and drag it down against your chest.Ā He pauses. You hold your breath, ready for him to push you away and tell that you took it too far.
Instead, his arms shoot around your torso. His face turns to press into your breasts, and he melts into your hold.Ā You swallow. You really hope he canāt hear your heart. How itās about to beat out of you and into him. Where it knows it belonged.Ā
āCan you...ā Dean speaks into you, the sound rolling through your ribs. āJust- Talk? Please? āBout anything, but-Ā Please.ā
āYeah. I- Yeah.ā You take a deep breath, and your fingers start to comb through his hair. He shudders, holds you tighter.Ā
And you talk. About anything. About the book youād been reading, about some random drama at work, about how youāve been studying his family in preparation to meet them. Studying the flashcards he made you and employing⦠other methods.Ā
āI stalked your mom on Facebook.ā You say sheepishly, face heating. āI followed her bread blog, too. And- I looked up how to knit, I know sheās into that. I can make a hat now. Itās a shit hat, but I can do it. She follows a birdwatching account, too, so I learned some birds. And- That soup kitchen she volunteers with. Thatās cool.ā You swallow. You sound insane. āShe seems really nice.ā
āShe is nice.ā Dean mumbles. It the first thing heās said in two hours. āSheās gonna love you.ā
āI hope so.ā
āShe will.ā He snuggles further into your body. His fingers have been digging into your hips, and they might leave bruises. You donāt mind.
āSheāll love you.ā Dean repeats, his words soft. āEveryone says sheās a lot like me.ā
For a second, you just nod, still petting his head. Then you hear what he actually said, and your heart does an Olympic level flip.
āWhat?ā You squeak, looking down with wide eyes. He doesnāt respond. āDean, what does that-ā
A snore rumbles from his chest. The lack of sleep from last night caught up with him. Heās out cold.
You sigh. Resume your petting, even if itās really more for you now.Ā The old lady leans over, giving a kind small and keeping her voice down.
āYou two are a lovely couple.ā She whispers. āAnd I must say, itās wonderful to see a man who adores his lady as much as this one adores you.ā
And you smile in return, even as tears burn behind your eyes.Ā
āThanks. Heās-ā You sigh, and smile down at Dean.Ā Dead to the world, and so painfully perfect.Ā āHeās the best.ā
Itās another two hours, to get up to the ranch Sam and Jess are renting for the wedding. The moment Dean gets behind the wheel he relaxes, grinning widely and leaning back in the seat. You smile out the window, and hide your flush when his hand finds your thigh.
āItāll be late when we get there.ā He says. His thumb is drawing circles into your skin. āWeāll have time to change, but-ā He sighs. āWeāre gonna have to fuckinā run to dinner. My Dad will shoot us if weāre late.ā
You huff a small laugh, just for Deanās sake. You donāt think heās joking.Ā
And as happy as it made you to see his relief when you landed safely, as high as it felt to hold his hand while you walked to baggage, and how good it felt to have him keep an arm around you while you grabbed the rental car, it makes you feel sick to watch him slowly curl into himself, the closer and closer you get to the ranch.Ā
To seeing his family.Ā To seeing his dad.Ā
Anything you know about John Winchester is what Deanās told you. None of it has made you his biggest fan. Not the military shit, not the strictness or casual stories heās thrown out about John threatening to kick him out, and only Mary being able to talk him out of it.Ā
But you know Dean admires his Dad. Know how important family is to him in general.
Youāre important to him too. Even if he doesnāt love you, you know youāre important to Dean. Important enough for him to stand so close and ask you for such intimate favors.Ā
Probably not close enough to trump his dad.Ā
So you donāt say anything, as you watch him get restless. Donāt mention that his leg is bouncing, or how he keeps looking over his shoulder when you pull into the parking lot. Dean grabs your arm and drags you inside, looking at his watch every few seconds with a paler and paler face. Youād gotten stuck in traffic, which wasnāt his fault at all, but you donāt think itās smart to say that either.Ā
āDean.ā You say gently when you get to the room. Heās still holding your hand. āI have to go get changed.ā
āUh- Yeah.ā He blinks at you, eyes dragging over your body. You press your thighs together, heat blooming from the attention. By a small miracle, he doesnāt seem to notice at all.Ā
āMy hand.ā You prompt him gently, and for a second he looks like he really doesnāt understand what youāre saying. āDean, I canāt change if youāre-ā
āShit. Right.ā He lets you go, stumbling back like you burned him. āSorry. Just- Can you be fast-ā
āFive minutes. Promise.ā
And you donāt know how you keep that promiseādoing your hair, basic makeup, making yourself presentable and nice because it might be fake but it still mattersābut you do. You come out to find Dean sitting on the edge of the bed, cleaned up pretty well himself, leg bouncing as he stares at his phone.Ā
Bed. Single bed.Ā Fuck.Ā
Dean looks up, and his throat bobs. āAwesome. You ready?ā
You nod, and hold out a hand. Itās a small gesture thatās too quickly becoming an instinct.Ā Even worse is how fast Dean takes your hand. Like heās not really thinking about it either.Ā
He doesnāt seem to the be thinking about any of this. Itās coming like air to him, how heās walking you down to the hotel restaurant, standing taller and taller with every step. He keeps you close, so close thereās no way to read it but romantic. When you arrive, he scans over the room with an alert expression, keeping you a little behind him. You see the moment he finds his family.Ā
He smiles, squares his shoulders, and lets out a heavy breath. You see a blonde woman with his eyes and smile stand up from a table on the far side of the room, andāwhen you dare to lean a little further over Deanās shoulderāa man grabbing her arm. A man who looks so similar to Deanāhair a little darker, face a little more worn but still remarkably similarābut doesnāt have his smile at all. Youāre not sure this man knows how to smile. It feels like it would be wrong on his face.
āShowtime.ā Dean mutters, squeezing your hand, and before you can damn this all and runānot real, but too real, and thereās a ringing starting in your earsāhe kisses the top of your head and drags you forward.Ā
You think he drugged you that. That that single kiss did something to your mind and body, because suddenly youāre stumbling after him and everything is all a fever dream.Ā
Deanās hugging his Mom. Exchanging a tight nod and awkward shoulder clap with his dadāwho, at the very least, grabs Deanās arm and nods backābefore turning to the impossibly taller man next to the empty seats, and shouting Sammy so loud some of the glasses seem to shake. Sam standsāyouāve never seen him in person, heās somehow even taller than you thoughtāand drags Dean into tight hug, muttering something that makes Dean laugh.Ā You smile, because itās impossible not to when he seems this happy.Ā
Then Dean looks at you, smiling himself, and the world slows to a beautiful stop. Just you and Dean, the glow of the chandelier light, and the way it bends around him. Makes him look more hero than man again. Makes him look like a spirit from a grove, wandering out of the shadows to carry you into the river.Ā
Your smile widens. Deanās reflects it, and maybe heās just a siren sent to enchant you beyond reason. Itās working. And if youāre drowning right now, heās already filled your lungs with his scent, his touch, his affection. The whole universe, in this split second, is just the chime of glass and Dean.
But the world speeds up again. He says your name, holding out a hand, and time rushes back into place.Ā
Theyāre all looking at you. Staring. The ground is slipping out from under your feet, and you feel over and underdressed at the same time, and-Ā
āBaby,ā Dean prompts softly, and you blink up at him with wide eyes. You donāt know when he got back to your side, but if he leaves it again, youāre going to stab him. āSay hi.ā
You look back to his family, and throw on your best smile. āHi.āĀ
Maryās face breaks into a smile, wide and warm, and before you know whatās happening youāre being swept up off the goddamn ground.Ā
āOh, itās wonderful to meet you.ā She says. āDeanās told me so much, and- Youāre even more gorgeous than he made you sound, which is really a high bar.ā
āMom.ā Dean hisses, and Sam snorts. You barely even hear. Youāre too busy staring at Mary.Ā
Sheās touching your arms and face like a blind woman trying to memorize something you canāt see. Sheās examine you almost like a slab of meat, and all you can do is stand there and wait for her to conclude. Her voice had a quaintly to it thatās so similar to Deanās you almost laughed. Itās musical, but in the way of a battle cry. Has a rhythm, but more like war drum.Ā
And looking into her eyes, you can see why people say she and Dean are similar. Thereās a stubborn fire that you know too well. A little less playfulness, but not none. You know Dean said she had a hard life, before she met John. You wonder if she has nightmares too.Ā
āHey, woah-ā Dean pulls you back as Mary tries to turn your head. āThatās enough. Donāt scare her off.ā
āYeah, I think thatās your job, Dad.ā Sam drawls, and the beautiful blonde woman next to him elbows his gut. āOw, Jess-ā
āDonāt argue with your future wife, Samuel.ā John grunts. His voice is deeper like Deanās. But apart from that, thereās nothing the same. āDonāt make that mistake this early.ā
āYeah, Samuel.ā Jess smirks, and Sam bows his head like a scolded dog.Ā
This whole family might just have the most dangerous puppy eyes youāve ever seen. You know Mary has them, when she convinces John to switch seats so she can be next to you and Dean. Youāre not sure John would be capable of themāheās got more of a glint like a hound dog, that youāve only ever seen on Dean when heās angryābut Samās seem to be perfected to the point that he mumbles an apology to Jess, and immediately gets a smile and sweet touch of his face.Ā
And suddenly, this feels so wrong. Youāre a liar. Youāre an intrusive, foreign liar, weaving into their ranks and masquerading, because they all seem to love each otherāeven John, mostly silent but still smiling at Mary every few momentsāand youāre just some girl-
āSo.ā Mary blinks at you, and you might not be breathing anymore. āDean says youāve been dating for how long? Six months?ā
āUm- I- I- Yeah.ā You take a ragged gasp for air, and your hand grabs at the tablecloth. Trying to find something that will keep you together, something to either hold you down to get you through this or pull you away into space-Ā
Dean catches your hand. Holds it tight. You look over, and he offers you a tiny smile. You swallow, then smile back.Ā He nodsāmostly to himselfāthen turns back to the table.
āDonāt interrogate her, Mom. She spent the whole day dealing with me on the plane, sheās exhausted.ā
āThe plane?!ā Samās mouth falls open. āI- I thought you were joking about Dean, Jesus, you actually flew?ā
āItās just walking then sitting, Sammy.ā Deanās voice is awful lofty for someone who looked like he was going to piss himself all day. āIt aināt nothing to be dramatic about.ā
Sam looks to you. āDid he piss himself again?ā
āSam-ā
āNo.ā You say loyally. āHe was fine. Only tried to run away from me twice.ā
Sam laughs, and Dean reaches over you to hit his chest.Ā Pauses when he leans back to brush his fingers over your cheek. Tuck some hair behind your ear. You swallow, and smile up at him again. Your lashes flutter, your hand moving of its own accord to adjust the cuff of his sleeve.
You didnāt know you were capable, of getting this shy and nervous just from someone looking at you. Didnāt know, until you met Dean.Ā
But he makes you do crazy things. Things like pretending to be his girlfriend, and wanting to kiss him in front of his family. Like your mouth parting in a public place, your body leaning forward as your legs shift.Ā
Dean sees it this time. His eyes dart down and flash with shock, but his grip on your chin only tightens. Itās all fake. You must just be going insane-
Sam coughs loudly, and you and Dean break apart. Whatever that little show was, it seems enough to quell his family. Mary smiles at you, Sam grumbles something about trying to eat, and John stares at you in a way youāre really trying not to think about too hard. Something prickles over your skin, and you have a horrible feeling that he can see right through you.Ā
But he doesnāt say anything. Dean starts to talk with his Mom and Jess about wedding decorations and choices, and he has a lot more opinions than you thought he would. You listen with a hopelessly dreamy smile that Dean seems too absorbed in his wedding talk to see, and almost jump out of your skin when Sam says your name.
āSorry.ā He smiles at you gently. āJust wanted to ask- Dean says youāre a teacher?ā
āI, um-ā You take a slightly shaking breath, then nod. āYeah. I am. But itās only Kindergarten-ā
āOnly Kindergarten.ā Dean snorts, and you blink at him. āSheās being humble. They adore her. Last spring they did this secret appreciation thing, where they all drew her and wrote her card. Pictures werenāt shit. I put one on our fridge.ā
The table falls silent, and Dean takes a large bite of his spaghetti, completely oblivious to the bomb heād just dropped.Ā
Sam knew you lived together. Youāre pretty sure Sam knows about the whole charade, because heād met you a while ago over the phone as Deanās roommate and friend. But Dean told you that his mom just thought you were friends. That heād been avoiding the roommate thing, just because sheād assume you were dating if you lived together.
In your cover story, you donāt live together.Ā But he just said the truth. And like the handsome fucking dumbass that he is, heās just eating his spaghetti.Ā
āOur fridge?ā Mary echoes. āDo you⦠Live together?ā
You almost laugh at the expression on Deanās face as he chokes on the spaghetti. āWe, uh- I- Mom, weāve been-ā
āWe moved in together like a month ago.ā You take a small amount of mercy on him, grabbing your napkin and reaching up to dab at the sauce on his face. You use it as an excuse to give him a death glare. Let me handle this.
He nods, expression still panicked, and you turn back to Mary with a soft grin.
āHe was going to tell you later, but I guess he got excited. Itās just still new enough, we wanted to be sure.ā
Mary nods slowly, looking suspiciously between you and Dean, and you sit a little taller. Sheās a lot more intimidating than John. You wonāt cave. Not when youāve already come this far.Ā
āI was wondering, how did you guys meet?ā Jess asks causally, poking at her own plate. āSam hasnāt actually told me.ā
You peer at her, because youāre pretty sure thatās a lie. Dean says Sam tells her everything, and that itās really freakinā annoying. But sheās smiling at you so innocently, and⦠You think sheās giving you a way out.Ā
Dean beats you to taking it. He clears his throat and sits up taller, like heās ready and proud to tell the story youād agreed on. You were at a bar. He walked over, and tried to hit on you, you turned him down.Ā
āBut you were already soooo in love with me,ā heād said while you brainstormed, his words slurred from drinking. āAnd you were obsessed with me, and you kept tryinā to make me notice you again until you gave up, and just knocked on my door. Confessed your love in the rain-ā
āI canāt knock on your door and be in the rain at the same time, De.ā
āWell, then you were wet from the rain.ā Heād winked. āThen I told you Iād been secretly in love with you the whole damn time, and I made you wet in other places-ā
Youād thrown a pillow at his face, half because of the stupid joke, and half because he was citing straight from your dream world. Where heād done that exact thing, in at least fifty different variations.
āWhy didnāt you just chase me, if you started by hitting on me.ā Youād sprawled on the floor, Dean sitting over you, and poked holed. The story needed to be perfect.Ā
Heād shrugged. āāCause maybe Iām a good guy, sweetheart. And I took your no to mean no.ā
āAh. The lowest bar.ā
Heād rolled his eyes, and youād smiled sweetly.
For a second, youād just stared at each other. When heād spoken again, his voice had lost its edge.Ā
āWhat if I was just in love with you. We became real friends after you kicked my ass at pool, and youād been seeinā other people, so I backed off, then I showed up in the rain and did the confession.ā
āIām bad at pool.ā Youād whispered. Heās smiled.
āThen we just wonāt let you play, sweetheart.ā
Youād nodded. It was all you could think to do. It had been a good story. Youād workshopped it when you were sober, and now it was almost flawless.Ā
Thatās the story you were supposed to tell Deanās family.Ā Itās not the story Dean says.Ā
āI was running around in a parking lot,ā he drawls, reaching his arm around the back of your chair. āLooking for someone, not paying attention to where the hell I was going. Ran right into her, then ran into the fuckinā door. I hadnāt stopped to apologize, but she helped me anyway. Then she slipped, I helped her. She was grabbing my arms and all mouthy, but the prettiest damn thing Iād ever seen, and I was still late but I couldnāt move my damn feet.ā He smiles down at you. āRealized Iād found what I was looking for. Just ended up takinā me a few years to ask to have it.ā
You stare at him, your heartbeat in your ears. Itās real. Too real. Itās a better lie than you came up with, but you donāt know why he would possibly choose that over your agreed upon backstory. Why he would remember it in such great detail, when it was so long ago.Ā
You remember it. Of course you remember it. You love him, and youād spent countless nights imagining what if. What if you hadnāt been there for the roommate interview, and heād asked you for coffee. What if youād been braver and taken the moment, told him you didnāt care about the complications, and asked him out. What if Dean had decided the moment was worth holding onto, and tossed aside safety and the. chance of a roommate to bring you to dinner. What if you ended up moving in anyway a while down the line because one of you had stood up and decided that it was worth the risk.
Thereās some small chance that it was only you who felt something, in that moment. When youād grabbed him and snapped, and heād taken a chance on you out of desperation.Ā
But what if he did feel it too. And it faded when you moved in, but heād felt it.Ā
What if it hadnāt faded.Ā Why does he remember.Ā
Not real. You have to remember itās not real, but Deanās still smiling at you. His arm is draped around, his fingers lingering on your upper arm in such a sweet, casual gesture of possession that isnāt real, but sure fucking feels it-Ā
āAnd youāre a teacher.ā John cuts through your thoughts, and you rip your gaze away from Dean to find him examining you again.Ā
You flush, but force your voice to stay even and strong. āYes, sir.ā
āHm.ā John narrows his eyes, and Deanās grip tightens on your shoulder.
āDad, cāmon-ā
āIām not sayinā anything.ā John grunts. āJust thinkinā. Teaching doesnāt pay much, does it.ā
āNo, but- Iām lucky. And I get- Donations.ā Your fingers are pulling at your cloth napkin. āSometimes families give me things for holidays, and- Once a girl made me a stuffed bear-ā
āA six year old made you a stuffed bear.ā John says, obviously unimpressed, and you swallow.Ā
āShe was five. Her mom helped, and- It came with chocolates.ā
āSo youāre planninā to live off stuffed bears and chocolates for the rest of your damn life?ā
āDad.ā Dean snaps, and you donāt know when he grabbed your hand, but youāre squeezing it tight.Ā
This isnāt real. Youāre not Deanās actual girlfriend, you donāt need to impress his parents, but- You do. Itās an itch over your skin that refused to be scratched, you need to impress John and Mary, they need to buy what youāre selling, they need to like you enough that youāre not just driving yourself insane dreaming of a life with Dean, that youāre watering your own secret little garden and can tell yourself that maybe if it was different, you might actually have something.
But John doesnāt look impressed. He just looks bored.Ā āYou work hard, son. Iām trying to make sure sheās got a bigger plan than just donations and low pay youāre gonna have to support-ā
āYou helped support Mom when we were kids.ā Dean holds Johnās glare, and Sam coughs. You focus your energy on the food in front of you. Itās an odd, washed-out shade of black, but that might just be your vision clouding.Ā
āDean,ā Mary says gently. āI was raising children, and- Your father is just trying to be careful-ā
āCareful of what, that someoneās gonna steal my million dollar salaries.ā
Sam snorts at that, Jess elbows him again, and John just shrugs.
āYou get paid well for the shit you do. Relationships need to be balanced, look at Sam and Jess, lawyer and doctor-ā
āPre-med.ā Jess mumbled, and Sam gave her a tight smile before glaring at John.
āDad, donāt use us for this.ā
John rolls his eyes. āFine. But my point is, Dean, it canāt be one-sided. I wonāt let you fall into something where youāre doinā all the work, people are always gonna have cars that need fixinā-ā
āPeople are always going to have kids that need teaching.ā Dean raises his chin, and you blink at him. āAnd yeah, I get paid well, but until she showed up Iād been balling up all my laundry and didnāt know who Robert Moses was, so I think weāre doing fine.ā
The table falls silent, and you keep staring at your plate. Your head feels a little light. Youāre not his real girlfriend. He didnāt need to defend you. Your eyes are watering and your mouth is dry, but theyāre never going to see you again after this weekend, so it really doesnāt matter-Ā
āItās a noble profession.ā Mary murmurs, her hand landing over Johnās. āI still remember the boyās kindergarten teachers. They were good women. One of them just had her fourth child and got something published in one of those big magazines, and- You remember Miss Garrity, Sam?ā
Sam nods, his mouth full of ravioli, and Mary smiles.Ā
āHer eldest just had their first. And I heard she was honored with an award last summer.ā Her smile turns to you. āThereās a good life, in teaching. Right, John?ā
John grunts. You donāt think heās going to argue, but he doesnāt seem thrilled by any of this.Ā
Mary nods in approval. āAnd itās good how much youāre making, Dean. Just like me and Dad, when she needs to take time off for your children, youāll be able to keep everything stable-ā
āWho wants dessert?!ā Sam shouts, loud enough to make you jump, and Dean presses your still intertwined hands down into your lap. Just managing to keep you from jolting the table.Ā
Youāre pretty sure Sam just saved your ass. The way he exchanges a look with Deanās red faceāthe way Deanās palm is sweating in yoursāmakes you almost certain that he did. From a conversation with Deanās mom about a future youāve dreamed of, and are never going to actually have. From Dean hearing you give real answers to questions Mary wouldnāt know are fake. From the conversation after, where heād carefully half-joke that you had the answers real well loaded, and youād have to just laugh like you hadnāt spent so long refining them to fit your dreams.Ā
Instead, you just silently eat your chocolate mousse and listen to Sam and Dean talk about their different kindergarten experiences. Dean remembers having a crush on his teacher, and he squeezes your leg as he says it, and your whole body floods with heat.Ā
Itās still a small torture. The idea of a little Dean bouncing around on a playground, wearing an oversized firefighter hat or hugging a stuffed animal. Itās a little cruel, how fast your brain can twist that into what Mary was implying. A little combination of you and Dean, with his smile and your eyes, all his energy and sweetness, hugging your legs and sitting in Deanās lap while he reads with a bunch of silly voices, and you feel kind of sick-
āYou tired?ā Dean mutters in your ear, and you turn to find him examining you. Thereās a deep furrow in his brow.Ā
Heās rubbing your leg now. Slowly up and down, soothing and igniting all at once.Ā Not real. So unfairly not real.
You nod, and he sighs. Leans forward to kiss your brow gently, and your eyes flutter. Heās just putting on a show. Just putting on a show.Ā
He excuses you both, you hang off his arm as he leads you upstairs and back to your room. Neither of you speak, but Dean doesnāt let go of your hand. You risk leaning forward and pressing your head against his back. Itās firm. Safe and warm. You never to be anywhere else again.Ā
You think Mary hugged you good night. You mightāve shaken Johnās hand. You really canāt remember at all.Ā Itās been a really long day.
You shower again, letting the hot water drain your frantic thoughts and nerves down the drain. You stare at the fogged-up mirror until it clears, and dress slowly. This was a really bad idea. When you agreed to this, you really shouldāve thought more about how in love with Dean you are, and how that was going to color the whole stupid thing.
Youāre not going to back out. You canāt, when you promised him. But you still feel sick. And this might break a tiny part of you that youāve tried so hard to keep safe. You donāt have a name for it. You just know itās made of maintaining a facade, a friendship, a reliable dance that youāre not in love with Dean, and even when you are itās okay that he doesnāt love you back.Ā
You have to remember that he doesnāt love you back.Ā
But heās still up, when you step out of the bathroom. Sitting on the edge of the mattress in his pajamas, frowning at his phone but looking up at you with the softest smile. Not real. i
āIām sorry. About Dad.ā He says as you shuffle across the room. āHe means well, I swear, but- He did the same thing to Jess, when Sammy finally brought her around. Iām gonna talk to him in the morning-ā
āDean.ā You give him a small smile, crawling onto the bed. āItās fine.ā
He twists around, mouth in a tight line. āNo, he shouldnāt have said that shit to you-ā
āI know.ā
āRight, so Iām gonna talk to him-ā
āYou really donāt have to. I know- Youāve told me how he is.ā You scoot a little closer, covering Deanās hand with your own. āYou really donāt need to fight with him. Not for me.ā
Deanās jaw flexes. His eyes dart down to your hand over his, then back up to meet yours. He lets out a heavy sigh. āIām gonna.ā
āDean-ā
āNo. He doesnāt talk to you like that.ā He looks back to his phone, then tosses it into the bags. āYou did awesome, though. Mom loved you.ā He shoots you a small grin. āTold you she would.ā
You laugh softly, and his words echo in your head. Sheāll love you. Sheās like me.Ā
āThey all loved you.ā Dean mutters, his thumb wrapping around to the back of your hand. Dragging small circles, a habit he seems to be building fast. āYou fit in.ā
That makes you laugh for real. āI wanted to throw up.ā
āYeah, I saw you makinā the face.ā
āAnd you didnāt do anything about it?ā
āHey, I pulled you out of there.ā He grins, flipping your hands so yours is under his. āA thank you would be welcome, sweetheart.ā
You roll your eyes. āIām not thanking you for saving me from the viper pit you shoved me into.ā
āBut it was such a heroic rescue, Iād call it my best-ā
āI wouldnāt.ā
āYouāre a critic.ā He smirks. āAnd you still love me, so Iām callinā it a fair save.āĀ
You flush, and whack his hand away. Too close to the truth again. Too intimate. āShut up.ā
Deanās eyes sparkle. āAw, you callinā it off with me? When you just met my family? Thatās low, baby-ā
āDean.ā You give him a flat, tired look. You donāt want to joke about this. It hurts too much. āYour mom was seconds away from asking me about babies and marriage.ā
He shrugs. āAnd? Iām guessing Dadās gonna ask that too, when I talk to him.ā He frowns at the air. āMake it real fuckinā clear, that Iām serious. He doesnāt say that kinda shit to you.ā
You sigh. āI said you donāt have to do that-ā
āAnd I said Iām gonna.āĀ
āDean, itās not- Itās just me.ā You give him a desperate look. āYou donāt have to. Not for me.ā
He stares at you. His hand tightens in yours, his mouth twitching, and he shakes his head.
āIs it so hard,ā Dean drawls, twisting fully around. Moving forward, as he speaks. āFor you to believe that I actually just wanna defend your honor?ā
āI- I donāt-ā You stare at him, crawling back as he approaches. He canāt get too close right now, when youāre so exhausted your mouth might not listen to your brain. Youāre going to say something true. āI donāt have honor-ā
āYeah, you do.ā
Your back hits the headboard. āDean, you know I donāt-ā
āNah. I donāt know anything.ā Heās over you. Over your legs, his arms braced around your body, his face only inches away.Ā
You breathe out shakily, and he licks his lips.Ā
āI know you.ā He mutters. āKnow you real well, sweetheart. And youāre worth defending.ā
His voice is so low it seems to vibrate through you, and your thighs clench.Ā
He sees it. His eyes dart down and darken, his shoulders heaving as he takes a heavy breath. Dean looks back to you, something glinting in his eyes that only stokes your own fire.Ā Your hand shoots up to press against his chest, but you donāt shove. Dean grabs your wrist, tracing one of those small circles, before moving to touch your face.Ā
Brushing his thumb along your cheekbone. Fingers playing with a loose strand of hair, then dropping down to hold your chin. Keeping your gaze trapped on his, as he traces your lower lip. Your mouth falls open, and his throat bobs.
He stares at you, the tip of his thumb resting right between your lips. His breath is ragged and warm on your face, his gaze searing into you, the light bending around him. But itās not another dream. His chest is flexing under your hand, and this is so impossibly real.
Dean mutters your name, and your legs fall open. Offering him more space, offering him whatever he wants, just so long as he keeps looking at you like that-Ā
Thereās a knock on the door. Samās voice calls from the other side, and the spell breaks.Ā
Dean scowls, and drags himself away like it takes real effort. He stares at you with that impossible face, then shakes his head.
āYou can have the bed.ā He grunts. āGonna sleep on the floor.āĀ
āDean-ā
āāS fine.ā He gives you a small grin, but it doesnāt reach his eyes. āIām trying to be a gentleman, sweetheart. Let me have this.ā
You stare at him, then nod slowly. Deanās mouth twitches, and for a second it looks like heās going to move back.Ā
Then Sam knocks again. And Dean stands with a heavy sigh. Leaving you on the bed, eyes already drooping with exhaustion, head still spinning. You donāt know what the fuck just happened. Your voice canāt seem to remember how to ask.Ā
And you pass out. Not even under the covers, sleep drags you under.Ā You wake up tucked in. Deanās snoring on the floor.Ā No real proof that last night happened at all. Only your memory, and the absolute certainty that it was real.Ā
Whatever it was, it was far, far too real.Ā
The hotel is on the edge of the town Sam and Jess dragged everyone up to. Itās attached to the ranch, giving them plenty of space for the wedding, but itās a ten minute to get through the brush fields and small wood to anything else.Ā
Youād been hoping you wouldnāt have to go see it. That you wouldnāt have to do much at all. Youād gotten away with it the first day, just lounging around the room and hiding from reality while Dean moved in and out.
āYou good?ā Heād ask every hour or so, even just poking his head in without grabbing anything else.Ā
āMhm.ā Youād mumble, tucked under the covers.Ā
Heād frown. āYou sure? We can go for a walk-ā
āNo, thank you.ā Youād pull the blankets tighter, and heād sigh. Stare at you for another moment.Ā
Then Sam would call his name, and heād shuffle away. Neither of you had spoken about last night. At rehearsal dinner, heād started off touching you a little less than before, and youād plastered a wide smile on your face, trying not to let it affect your show. Hands still held, but without fingers woven together. Elbows touching while you sat and ate, Dean offering you some of his whine and you adjusting his tie, but no casual stroking of his hair or secret laughter.Ā
Heād given a sweet toast that made you smile at him stupidly. No matter how strange things were, you still adored him.Ā
Youād glanced down the table and found John staring at you. Eyes narrowed, posture stiff. Dean must have talked to him. Youād looked back to your plate and bitten your tongue, hoping any tears that pushed through just looked like an overemotional reaction to your boyfriendās speech.Ā
Heād looked at you when he finished it. Youād smiled back, and something had flashed in his eyes.Ā His hand had come up to touch your chin.Ā Just like in bed.Ā
Youād swallowed, and grabbed his wrist. The crowd has read it as romantic. Youād meant it as a silent, panicked plea for him not to play with you like this. But you donāt know how he read it. Dean had just sat down when he was done, wrapped his arm around your body, and kissed the side of your head.Ā
It had been the first hole, punched in the dam.Ā Now, in the morning, you can still feel the tattoo of his lips on your skin.Ā
Youād wiped some sauce off his cheek with your thumb, then sucked it clean. Heād kept his arm around the back of your chair. Youād both drank, relaxing slowly. A few people came up to you. Spoke mostly to Dean, no matter how he tried to include you in the conversation. Heād started to get tense about halfway through the night.Ā
Youād taken a risk. Placed your hand, right on his thigh, and rubbed gently.Ā Heād jerked slightly, and youād started to move away.
Heād stopped you. Youād looked at his handsome, slightly flushed face, and heād offered you the first real smile of the night. Youād smiled back, and that had been real too.Ā
Such small parts of thisāgetting a little too drunk together, picking out people in the crowd of Sam and Jessā friends to make fun of, stumbling back to your room at midnight and watching something you canāt remember, but made both of you giggle like teenagersāare so real. So real it feels like youāre back at home, and youāre going to wake up to Dean in the kitchen, presenting you with the worst muffin youāve ever tasted in your lifeāheās been trying to bake, and heās really not good at itābefore offering a sandwich to make up for the disaster.Ā
Instead, you wake up with your head on Deanās shoulder, the TV still playing neither of you under the covers, his shirt missing and draped over your body like a blanket.Ā It smelled like him.Ā
Youād shoved it under your pillow like a dragon hoarding treasure, and watched TV until he woke up.Ā
The plan had been to waste the day the same way as before. Dean runs around doing wedding things. You sit here and fester in your own guilt, indulging in your secret world where all of this was real. You tried to tell Dean that was your plan, when he got up.Ā
Heād made the executive decision that it wasnāt. That town wasnāt that far, and if he had to go out with Jess and Sam, you did too.
āBut they know, we donāt have to sell it-ā
āYeah, but I want you to come. Just to hang out.ā
āI want to stay in bed-ā
āCāmon.ā Heād said your name, giving you a winning smile. āWeāre still friends, right? Friends hang out, and support other friends when they gotta go shopping with their brothers.ā
Youād narrowed your eyes. āFriends do each other favors, like fake dating for a wedding.ā
Dean had sighed. Winced, like youād actually hit him, then retreated with a muttered agreement. And you had been right. Youād almost gotten away with staying in bed, and Dean wasnāt going to push you.Ā
But heād looked so sad. And he wanted you there. All you ever want is to be wanted by Dean.
Youād gotten changed, shoved on your shoes, and stomped out into the room with a scowl. Dean had said your name in surprise, and youād grabbed the keys out of his hand.
āI wanna drive.ā
His face had split into a wide, open grin. āYes, maāam.ā
Itās a ten-minute drive into town, and you really have to learn how to resist Deanās puppy eyes. You feel out of place again, trailing after them and smoothing your clothes whenever they stop to talk about something. Youāre staring at the pavement, out of place in their lives, counting the cracks and trying to find an excuse to stay home-
Dean links his arm through yours. Doesnāt even look down, just holds you at his side and drags you into the conversation.
You smile to yourself. Let yourself lean into his side, and decide itās for the small amount of guests youāve seen milling around the town as well. Not because, just for now, youāre allowed to have him and you donāt want to waste a single second by letting go.Ā
āDo you like flowers?ā Jess asks, leaning down to look at some pots on the street.
You shrug. āI mean, I guess.ā
āYou guess?ā She rises back up. āWell, what does your boyfriend get you.ā
Next to you, Dean tenses. You glance up, and heās still deeply engrossed in a conversation about horses or something with Sam. You shake it off, and turn back to Jess.
āI donāt have a boyfriend.ā You shrug, fixing your gaze on a bee buzzing near the pots.Ā
āReally?ā Sam says suddenly, and you blink. āI thought Dean told me you were seeing this guy named- Uh- Steve? Right?ā
He looks to Dean for confirmation. Dean looks at him like heās plotting a murder.Ā
āIt was Shawn.ā You offer, placing a light hand on Deanās bicep. āAnd we broke up a while ago.ā
āOh.ā Jess exchanges a look with Sam. āWell, what did he get you?ā
āUm- He didnāt, really. He wasnāt- It didnāt mean that much.āĀ
Jess frowns. āThat much.ā
āYeah. You know. Flower much. But-ā You glance back over to Dean, whoās started glaring at the sidewalk. āI have some flowers that Dean grabbed for our place. Those are nice, I just- Dean, what are they called-ā
āHyacinths.ā He grunts, hand flexing on the table, and squeeze his arm.
āOkay. I like those.ā
His eyes flick up to yours, nostrils flaring, and he wipes his mouth with a tight, controlled movement. You offer him a smileāheās so tense youāre worried heās going to have an aneurism, even if you donāt understand whyāand his lips twitch.Ā
Jess clears her throat. āHow long were you and Shawn together?ā
āLike, three months?ā
āOh. Hm.ā She shoots a look at Sam. āI just thought- Never mind. Whyād you break up?ā
You stare at her, your brain suddenly fogged and moving too fast all at once. A demand to know why sheād think you and Shawn were together for a whileāit had barely been a monthāalmost spills out like vomit, but itās blocked by the lump rising up in your throat. The thick, tense reminder that Shawn called it off the same reason they all do. The same reason you never get to flowers.Ā
Itās Dean. Itās always Dean. Still rigid and silent next to you, but also still holding you right against his side. Your fingers have started mindlessly tracing his bicep, the sunlight moving around him and narrowing the whole world down again, and Jess asked you a question, but- You canāt answer it in front of Dean.
You could just lie.Ā The halo forming around Dean is hypnotizing. You canāt stop staring at him, and canāt remember how to lie.Ā
Heās looking back at you now, brow furrowed, and youāve been silent for way too long. But his eyes are shining, and you donāt know why heās this close, but you really donāt want him to move away, and this is another thing thatās too real. Deanās looking at you like heās trying to work out the answer, but itās written all over your pathetic face for him to see, and the heat from his body is going to melt you into something sweet for him to either devour or kick into the gutter-Ā
Sam coughs. Neither of you look away.
āSo, uh- While weāre talking about exes, and everyoneās in a good mood.ā Sam takes a deep breath. āLanaās coming. To the wedding.ā
Deanās eyes shoot away from yours, wide and burning, his jaw ticking the way it does when heās really angry. His grip on you tightens, and it somehow douses you in ice-water as the moment is broken, all while rekindling a different, tighter heat. Heās holding onto you, so, so tight. Reaching around to grab your further arm as he glares at Sam, and youāre really not sure whatās happening, but it takes a titanic effort not to give into the hazy fever of his proximity, and drop your brow on his chest.
āSam.ā Deanās words are pushed through his teeth. āWhat the hell-ā
āIt was Dad!ā Sam protests, and you glance back to see him retreating fast. Literally hiding behind Jess with his hands raised in surrender.Ā
āDad? Youāre willing to push him, Sammy, we both know you got no problem with that, but Lana is where you cave like- Like a fuckinā pussy-ā
āHeās still friends with her dad, Dean.ā Sam whines, and Deanās lips curl like he tasted something sour.
āAnd youāre carinā about that over me?ā
Sam winces, looking like a kicked puppy, and Jess sighs.
āSam did try to push, but your dad was really aggressive about it.ā She offers. āYou know how he is, and we did what we could. Sheās in the back of the room. You wonāt even see her.ā
Dean glares between them, still holding you tight, then gives the tiniest shake of his head.Ā
āWhatever. Cāmon.ā He squeezes your arm tightly, still glaring at Sam. āThey got Italian ice cream down the block.ā
You blink at him, stumbling slightly as he starts to pull you down the street. āYou- You mean gelato?ā
āYeah.ā He steadies you, not breaking pace. āThat.ā
Sam calls after you, and Dean flips him off over your head, never releasing your grip. You shoot Sam an apologetic look, but donāt fight Dean as he half-carries you away.Ā
You end up sitting in the small parlor, Dean beating up his gelato with a spoon while you open and close your mouth, trying to think of an acceptable way to ask what the fuck that was about. His knee is pressed firmly against yours, his attention flicking up every few seconds before dropping back down with a deeper scowl. Something starts to wither in your chest the longer the silence goes on. You look down to your own gelato with your lips pressed tight, trying to swallow down that painful lump and breathe through your nose until your head clears.Ā
The world is blurring a little bit. Thereās dusty light swirling around the parlor, and it makes Dean look like an angry polaroid photo, and you feel a little sick as pointless tears prick at your eyes-
āLanaās my ex.ā He grunts suddenly. āWasnāt even that serious, but still ended like shit. Used to be that every time I dropped home, weād hook up.ā
The lump grows. āOh.āĀ
Deanās silent for another moment, and you can feel something worse than the silence burning under your skin. Itās seeping in, toxic and hot, rushing through your blood to your head, an ugly feeling twisting in your chest, and-
āStopped doinā that last year.ā His voice is a little stronger. He looks up at you with that strange expression you canāt read. āWhen I headed back in August. Remember, I called you to tell you about running into my math teacher at the bar?ā
āYeah.ā You smile despite yourself. āYou were wasted, you spent fifteen minutes telling me about your crush on her. And your teacher kink-ā
āHey, hey-ā He kicks you lightly under the table, the light creeping back into his eyes. āThat was a secret, sweetheart, donāt shout it for everyone to hear-ā
āYou never told me it was a secret.ā
āItās a fuckinā kink, smart ass. I donāt run around shouting about all of yours-ā
āYou donāt know mine.ā You shrug, and that was the wrong this to say.Ā
Deanās eyes glimmer, something dark crossing over his face that youād been trapped under that first night on the bed. There, it mightāve been a trick of the night. A little too much drink and stress from dinner, real but in the same was of smoke and mirrors.Ā
Here, itās inescapably real. And you canāt bring yourself to look away.
āYou think that.ā He drawls, leaning over the table. āDonāt you.ā
āUm-ā Your voice is getting weirdly high. āYes?ā That was weak.āYes. I do.āĀ
āHm.ā
You frown. āHm?ā
Dean shrugs. Smirks at you, as he takes a large bite of his gelato. āHm.ā
āYou- You donāt-ā
āDonāt I?ā He teases, and your mouth falls open.Ā
āNo. You- Iāve never told you any-ā
āWords arenāt everything, baby.ā Dean pokes your gelato cup with his spoon. āEat up, we gotta get back to Sammy and Jess before they start manhunting us.ā
You blink at him, he smiles backāwide and charming and doing nothing to help the haze in your headāand you start to eat your gelato slowly. Dean waits for you to have one bite, then two, and smirks. Presses his knee further against yours, dropping his voice to something low and dangerous and hot.
āGood girl.āĀ
The spoon slips out of your hand. Your eyes widen in embarrassment, panicked shame wrapping around your heart, but Deanās smirk just widens. He keeps eating his gelato, an almost innocent expression on his face, and you mightāve imagined it. Maybe your fantasies and the strange, blurred lines of this week are getting to your head. Maybe itās the heat, and youāve started to hallucinate.Ā
But youāre sure that it was real.Ā
And thereās no faking Deanās arm wrapping around your low back when you leave the shop. His hand splayed on your hip, his posture relaxed and grin wide again. When you find Sam and Jess again and Dean doesnāt try to throttle anyone, they give you looks like you drugged him. You just grimace and smile weakly, because you donāt know what happened either. He was mad and sullen, then you were jealous, and now youāre⦠Here.Ā
Drinking in a bar, Deanās smile wide on his face, his body around yours as he fails to teach you how to play pool for the millionth time. His lips brushing over your ear as he speaks, sending a shiver up your spine that he seems far too smug about. He squeezes your hip too close to your ass, when you draw the cue back. It makes you grind back into him like some wanton whore, and he makes a deep sound from his chest, and you feel like youāre going insane.Ā
Youāre a little tipsyāeveryone started drinking the moment you got to the barābut this is real. All of it is real. Whatever had been bothering Dean about Lana is gone, and he seemed to have taken your own worry with it.Ā
She was the kind of thing that shouldāve freaked you out. That wouldāve freaked you out, if he told you back home. It wouldāve sent you out to the club a year ago, wouldāve locked you in your room to cry last week.Ā
But Deanās gaze isnāt wandering from you for more than a moment, and all you can think about is his smug expression from earlier. How it hasnāt wavered all afternoon, how heās teasing you the same as always, but slowly crossing boundaries that have always been open to him.Ā
He kissed the side of your head, when you sunk a ball at the table. Let you go back to the bar with the single victory, but squeezed your hand before you walked away. Heās still looking for you through the crowd, every few moments.Ā He smiles when he sees you, and you donāt know whatās happening.Ā
āHe talks about you.ā
You blink over at Sam, whoād been silently sitting next to you for a while. āWhat?ā
āDean.ā He shrugs, taking another sip of his beer. āHe talks about you.ā
āWe⦠Live together.ā
āYeah. You do.ā Sam watches you strangely in the shadows of the bar. āHe didnāt talk about Charlie, though. I mean, heād tell me stories about stuff they did. But he didnāt talk about her.ā
You frown. āThatās the same thing-ā
āNo. Not for Dean.ā
āNo, like, semantically, itās the same thing-ā
āNo.ā Sam says firmly. āItās not.ā
āSam-ā
āItās- Look. When he and Lana were dating, I never heard about her. Heād say he was going out, say he had a date, tell me that she didnāt like things or wanted Dean to do something. Can I tell you the first thing he said to me about you?ā
You nod weakly, and Sam sighs. Smiles slightly, like heās fond of the memory.
āHe said she likes my waffles. I did them with the strawberries. Think Iām gonna try banana next.ā
āI- Thatās-ā You frown at him. āWhy do you remember that?ā
Sam takes another long drink of his beer, making a face like heās thinking far too hard about what should be a simple question.
āAsk Dean what the first thing I said about Jess was.ā He says finally, something shining in his eyes. āHe remembers that.ā
Deanās supposed to stay with Sam tonight. Something about keeping him on lockdown, the night before the wedding.Ā
The room feels bigger without him. Even if he wouldāve only slept on the floor, the bed is colder. You pace for an hour, still lost in the events of the day, still turning Samās words over in your head.Ā
You hadnāt asked Dean. There hadnāt been a good time. Youād gotten back to the hotel, and heād gone with Sam. Kissed your forehead, then gone with Sam.Ā And that mightāve been for the show of it. There had been a few cousins and family friends in the lobby. It had barely been a graze of his lips over your hairline.Ā
But his hand had also squeezed your hip. And heād smiled at you so softly after, and Samās claim was still ringing in your head.Ā He talks about you.Ā
Dean talks about everything. Sam said that like it meant something, but Dean literally never stops talking. It doesnāt mean anything.Ā
None of this is supposed to mean anything. Not to him. It means everything to you, but youāre in love with him. Youāve spent hours turning him over in your head, fantasying about the way heād feel and taste, about a world where you just get to hold his hand, and life where you fall asleep with your head on his shoulder and he smiles at you like youāre sharing a secret. Where he doesnāt even think about other girls, because heās too busy with you, the same way youāve never been able to really think about another man.Ā
A life like this week.Ā But itās not real.Ā It still feels real. And thatās nothing, but itās everything, and youāre so confused.Ā
You have the room to yourself. Your legs get tired from pacing, so you take a hot shower. You pull on one of Deanās shirts and lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling and unable to make sense of anything in your own head. Most of your usual daydreams are blurring with reality, and itās almost all to jumbled to lead anywhere but more confusion.
Almost. One thing is burning through the rest.Ā
The heat. Deanās voice drawling good girl like he knows. His hand on your hip, your lower back, your stomach. His crotch pressing against your ass, his weight around your shoulders, pinning you to his body. His lips brushing over your skin, teasing and so hot.Ā
Your core aches, and you realize your body has started to move of its own accord. Youāre grinding into the sheets, one hand under your shirt to palm at your breasts. You pinch your nipple and a soft moan leaves your mouth, your fingers slipping between your thighs. Your underwear is soaked. Your body shudders, when you press your clit, and a soft moan escapes your lips.Ā
āDe- Deanā¦ā
The sheets still smell like him. You roll over, pressing your face into the mattress, and start to hump into your hand like an animal in heat. Itās so easy to pretend that itās his big, rough fingers slipping into your pussy. How theyād fill you up, scissor you open as he pressed behind you like at the pool table. The pad of his calloused thumb swiping your clit back and forth, his deep voice right in your ear as heād kiss up your spine.Ā
āGood girl, baby, so fuckinā pretty, takinā my fingers so good, gonna be nice and ready for my cock-ā
You moan again. Louder this time, barely muffled in the pillow. Your ass rises higher into the air as you try to get a better angle, the sheets sliding off your body, and youāre so close-Ā
Thereās a soft knock on the door, and you freeze. Flip onto your back, sitting up in a second, brushing your hair from your eyes as you take short, breaths.Ā
āYe- Yeah?ā Your voice wavers, your thighs still rubbing under the sheets.Ā
Dean calls your name from the other side of the door. His voice is so strangely soft. Almost nervous, and it clears your head fairly fast. You push to your feet, mind narrowing down to only Dean, and making sure that heās okay.Ā
You open the door, and find him slouching in the hallway. His head is bowed, expression open and vulnerable, eyes drooping. The low light of the hotel makes the shadows on his face seem longer, the red on his face clearer.Ā
āDean?ā You whisper, your hands itching to reach out and touch him. Just trace his face, make sure everything is in the place itās supposed to be. āAre you okay?ā
Heās silent for a moment. His gaze slowly drags up your body, the red of his face deepening, and you forgot to put on pants. You swallow, wrapping an arm around your stomach, but still smile softly when his eyes meet yours. His throat bobs, tongue flicking out over his lips. He shakes his head.
āYeah, uh-ā He shakes his head. āYeah. Just-ā His throat bobs, and he takes a step back. āNever mind. Iām gonna- Sorry-ā
āWait, Dean-ā You grab his hand, and he freezes.Ā
Stares at you like a cornered animal, his chest rising and falling too fast.Ā
You drop his hand. āDo you wanna⦠Come inside.ā
Heās silent for another moment, then gives the tiniest nod. You step to the side, and he stares at you. Looks into the room, face twitching strangely, then back to you.
āIf you- Youāre busy-ā
āIām not.ā You say quickly. āAnd- Itās your room too. You donāt have to knock.ā
Itās a good thing he did knock. But right now, your own at wearing his shirt and nothing else save for soaked panties doesnāt outdo your worry for how fucking tired he look. And those words make him smile tightly, makes something relax in his shoulders, so youād call it more than worth it.Ā
He shuffles over to the bed, but just stands at the edge of the mattress. You grab his hand, and gently guide him to sit down. He doesnāt resist you. Almost molds over you, the moment you have him down. Leaning against you, his head carefully angled away from your body, and youāre so worried.Ā
You slowly pull him closer. He lets you. Watches you in the dark with that same, vulnerable expression. His body curls over your lap, his legs tangled in your own. His arms wrap around your stomach when you guide them there. His head rests on your chest, between your breasts.Ā He lets out a ragged breath. You brush your fingers through his hair, and his body shakes.Ā
āNightmare?ā You whisper, and he nods.Ā
He doesnāt seem to be willing to move from your body, not even enough to speak. You sigh, and rub his spine.
āOkay.ā
You lean down, and kiss the top of his head. Dean makes a low, sad sound like a wounded animal, and holds you tighter.
Time passes slowly, or quickly, but it doesnāt really matter because nothing matters more than Dean in your arms. It could have been five minutes or three hours, and it all feels the same. You keep touching him gently, and his body slowly relaxes. His breathing evens out. Youād think he was sleeping, if he didnāt shift every few moments with a heavy sigh.Ā
When he rasps your name, you only hum. You donāt want to risk breaking the moment, or spooking him away.
āYou ever dream?ā
You pause. āDream? Like- Instead of-ā
āNo, not like-ā He sighs, hand splaying on your back. His face presses further into your body, words vibrating pleasantly over your skin. āLike- The future. Ever think about the future.ā
āOh.ā More than he can imagine. āYeah.ā
āYeah?ā
āMhm. I, um- Yeah.ā
Deanās silent for a moment. āLike what?ā
āI donāt know.ā You laugh nervously, tipping your head back against the headboard. āA lot of things, I guess. What does anyone think about, with that? What do you think about?ā
āFamily.ā He answers so fast, it makes you look right back down.Ā
Heās staring at you in the dark. Eyes lined with red, drooping but fixed on your surprised expression.Ā
āFamily?ā You echo, and he nods. You swallow. āLike what?ā
Deanās mouth twitches. āYou know. What itāll look like for me. Who itāll be. That kinda shit.ā
āAnd-ā You bite your lip, but itās not enough to hold back the words. āWhat does it look like?ā
āHm.ā He sighs, thumb drawing small circles on your back. āYou really wanna know?ā
You nod, a little too frantic, and a smile ghosts over his face.
āI like my job. Pays better than it should-ā
āYou work hard-ā
āI make money for a hobby.ā He corrects, and you frown.
āItās not a crime to like your job. I like my job.ā
He chuckles. āYeah, but you should make more than I do, but- if you like it.ā He sighs. āGuess itās good I make so much. Keeps us afloat. Makes it all easier.ā
You blink. āI- I guess-ā
āAnd I got better insurance. Better in the long run. Plus, itās gonna save a lot on certain costs, like when the kids need their own cars.ā
āThe- The kids?ā You whisper, and Dean nods. Yawns, and turns his face back into your stomach.Ā
āIād like five.ā He mutters. āBut Iāll go down to three. Four, if I can pull it off.ā
Your mouth falls open. āFour kids-ā
āTheyāre gonna look like their mom.ā He mumbles, and you carefully try to move his face. Try to get a good look at him, to work out if heās fucking with you.Ā
But when he turns, heās just staring at you strangely under long, pretty lashes, his eyes slightly glazed. Tired, still clearly a little drunk, face more open than youāve ever seen it.Ā
And that expression. Itās almost reverent.
āWeāll need a bigger house.ā He mumbles, and you swallow.
āWe donāt own a house, De.ā
āYeah. Shit.ā He yawns, mouth pulling into a smile. āIāll work on that.ā
āWork on⦠A house?ā
āMhm. Iāll make sure we got a backyard. And- Big room. Big bed. Lotta space.ā
āDo you want space?ā You whisper, and he hums.
āNah, but in case you get sick of me.ā
āI- donāt. Ever.ā
Heās silent for a moment, eyes shining on yours. āYeah?ā He finally rasps, and you nod.
āNever. I- I donāt think I could.ā
He smiles again. Wide and affectionate and real. āAwesome.ā
āDeanā¦ā Your heart is beating in your throat. āCan- Can I ask you a question?ā
āAnything.ā He mutters, and itās so sincere it almost splits you in half.
āWhat was the first thing Sam told you about Jess?ā
He chuckles, then yawns, turning his face back into your stomach without an answer. āWeird question.ā
āI- I know, just- Can you answer it. Please?ā
Dean nods, but still doesnāt speak. His hands are wandering over your body, slowing down to a drag, his breathing growing deeper.Ā
āDean-ā
āShe called me sweet.ā Dean murmurs. āSaid she liked the book I was readinā, then called me sweet.ā
āOh- Okay.ā You blink, tearing burning behind your eyes. āAnd- Why do you remember that?ā
āāCause.ā
āCause why-ā
āSammyās my baby brother. I know āim.ā
āI know, but-ā
āNever heard him in love before.ā Dean mumbles, and your breath catches. āWas nice. Gonna remember it.ā
You canāt think. Canāt speak. Can barely breathe.Ā
In love.Ā Deanās first snore rips through the air, and heās out in your arms. You take a shaky breath, and press your head back, lips pursed tight. Ā
In love.Ā The words ring in your ears, until you fall asleep.Ā In love.Ā
The day moves too fast.Ā Youāre starting to get trapped in your own head.Ā
Deanās up before you are. Wiping his eyes and groaning as he comes out of the bathroom, running a hand through damp hair and giving you a sheepish grin as you blink at him.Ā
āGotta go get Sammy ready.ā He says. āYou can go back to bed, you got time.ā
You nod slowly, scanning over his face to try and test if he remembers anything at all. If it meant anything at all.Ā
Heās out the door before you find the words to ask. Youāre left sitting alone, the sheets tangled around your body, wide awake as the days start to play back in your head. A broken record youāre trapped in. A world youāre not even sure is real, because itās far too close to everything youāve ever dreamed of. Everything youād been so certain youād never get to have.Ā
Dean spoke about the future like it was for you. He touched you like he was for you. Smiled at you and kissed you and it canāt have all been for the showāthere wasnāt even an audience to perform forābut it being for you feels far too good to be true.Ā
He said keep up afloat. He said he wanted kids, said the kids like theyād be yours too, said heād get to work on a house, and in love, and this was such a bad idea. You shouldāve told him no, when he asked. Shouldnāt have given into your instinct to please him, shouldāve held your ground for the sake of your sanity, let him come here alone so you could wallow in bed about a future youād never to have-Ā
A future he might want.Ā With you.Ā There had been no one for him to say that for, but you.Ā In love.Ā
And if youād let him come alone, heād be alone with the ex that he has sex with. Stopped having sex with. Seemed to stop thinking about all together, when he started teasing you.Ā
You take a shower, hoping the water will wash away the spinning in your head. It doesnāt. You just end up smelling Deanās shampoo and thinking about him in this same shower a few hours ago. How the water mightāve ran down his bare chest. How he mightāve smelled your shampoo, how his broad frame would take up so much of the space, how heād crowd you if you shared the water.Ā
How heād hold your hips like yesterday. Hold you against his chest. Brush his mouth over your neck, and whisper low praise as you writhed on his hand.Ā Good girl.Ā
He said that. Actually said that. It wasnāt just another fantasy your mind conjured up, those were words that left Deanās mouth.Ā
You stare at yourself in the mirror for half an hour, before the reminder alarm goes off on your phone, and you actually have to get ready.Ā
He picks you up in his suit. His eyes gleam as they take you in, and you flush under the attention. You donāt even remember getting ready, but suddenly youāre here and Deanās smirking at you like youāre a something lewd.
āYou look awesome.ā He says with a wide grin, and you swallow.Ā
āYou- You too.ā You whisper, because he really does. He always does, but right now itās like the world is finally just tunneling down to Dean, and heās the last fixed point that keeps the world from slipping out from under your feet.Ā
He fills out the suit in a way that makes your mouth water. His tie is a little crooked, and he grins down at you when your fingers shakily adjust it.
You blink up at him. āHi.ā
āHi.ā His tone is a little mocking, but not mean. Just bright and clear and comfortable. The rest of the world is just shadows, compared. āReady?ā
You nod weakly, and Dean folds his fingers through yours. Swoops down and kisses your cheek, before herding you out of the room. To the wedding.Ā
And you might be blacking out.Ā All youāre certain of are moments where Deanās hand is in yours. He kisses the back of it, then lets go to stand with Sam at the alter. Youāre sure the wedding is lovely, but you canāt remember a single detail but Deanās eyes, burning into yours as Sam and Jess say vows. Your heart thunders in your ears and drowns them out. All the sunlight seems to bend into Dean, until the world is truly only you and him, staring at each other through the whole ceremony.Ā
Itās too easy to think about what it would be like if he was right across from you. If the small smile on his lips was because it was your wedding. The one youāve dreamed about in your head, so many times. The one that drags you away from the moment, until people are cheering and Dean looks away, and suddenly youāre at the wedding party.Ā
Deanās holding your hand again. You donāt look anywhere but him, as he leads you around through the crowd. Heās introducing you to people. You canāt hear yourself when you speak, canāt really focus on anything but his presence at your side.Ā
You dance together.Ā Dean holds you like you are his, but youāre not. You are in the eyes of the crowd, but itās just a lie, but it doesnāt feel like a lie, and itās somehow more confusing and clarifying than anything else.Ā
He tells you that youāre beautiful like a secret he wants to keep to himself. You smile. The cool lights of the party are moving around him, making him look like one of your countless dreams, and you just drop your face into his neck. He sighs, and keeps guiding you through the dance.Ā Youāve had this dream.Ā
Itās not a dream. Dean smiles at you, his nose bumping yours but without a single kiss, and itās so real. How he holds you. Looks at you. Makes a soft joke that you giggle at, even if you feel like youāre getting high and crashing down all at once.Ā
In love.Ā That strange look.Ā He looks at you like heās in love, and the world is crumbling around you.
Mary corners you after the speeches and dinner. You smile at her sweetly. Hold Deanās hand so tight it hurts, and he pulls you close. Rubs your back, as he talks to his mother about work.Ā
āDid you get any ideas?ā She asks you. āFor your turn? I mean, I love the winter wedding in a sunny place, but Dean- Iāve always pictured him getting married in the fall.ā She laughs to herself. āProbably because thatās what John and I did. And he gets my motherās ring, which goes with fall the most. But itās up to you, honey, right? Are you thinking of the fall?ā
Youāre not. Youāve always pictured the spring.Ā But you canāt speak. Not even on auto pilot. Not about wedding, to Dean, like itās real and not something youāve sworn to keep confined to your head and the walls of your bedroom, and-Ā
āJesus, Mom.ā Dean cuts in for you, and you blink at him with a desperate expression. āLet me propose first, youāre gonna spook her.ā
Mary laughs, and says something about you not seeming like they type to spook easy. You stare at Dean.Ā
He looks back, worry furrowing in his brow at your slack expression.Ā
āYou good?ā He murmurs as John wanders over, saying something to Mary your brain doesnāt care to process.
You nod weakly, and his frown deepens.Ā
āYou wanna go for a walk?
You shake your head, and he looks really worried now.
āSweetheart-ā
āHey, Dean?ā Sam appears from nowhere, placing a hand on Deanās shoulder and giving you a small grin.Ā
You donāt smile back. You just stare at Dean, who seems to be trying to stare back, but keeps getting distracted by Sam. Heās dragged away to talk about something allegedly important, and tries to take you with him, but Mary grabs your shoulder and says something about bonding. Ā
You black out again, the moment Deanās arm leaves your body. You might tell her about your idea of the future with Dean. The one youāve sworn not to tell anyone, but pours out of you with every question, because your skin feels like itās about to fly off your body. Your every nerve is wired and buzzing and raw. Youāre running on a thin, fraying line of electric, and if youāre touched, you spark.Ā
Maybe you tell Mary you love Dean. You donāt know.Ā
Then, suddenly, youāre alone in the middle of the room and everything is dark. Youāre swaying on your feet. Lost at sea, the only lighthouse the same siren that lured you here, and now youāre confused and sweating and alone-Ā
Someone says your name, in a voice you donāt recognize. Itās cold, and mocking, and when you turn itās like youāre in a waking nightmare.Ā
Youāve never met this woman before, but sheās all too familiar. Youāve seen her, a million times before. Inverted in the mirror, glowing with a confidence youāve never been able to find. Smiling not softly, but like a beautiful monster that knows itās got its claws in something. Put together like she rolled out of bed like this, her every feature swallowing and casting the shadows.Ā
Sheās every girl you heard Dean fuck through the walls, every girl you pretended not to care about, everything youāve craved to be while never being able to figure out how.Ā
She doesnāt need to introduce herself. You already know who she is.
āLana.ā You say, your voice faraway. She smiles.Ā
āHeās told you about me.ā She holds out her hand, and you can see yours moving to shake it. Your skin burns at her soft touch.
āSam did.ā
āHm. Sam.ā Thereās something cold in her voice. āHeās always so annoying, isnāt he. Has he told youāre not good enough yet? This family, I swear-ā
āNo.ā You breathe out. āSamās been nice.ā
Something venomous flashes across Lanaās beautiful face. āHm.ā
You smile at her, but it makes your face hurt. You shouldnāt have worn heels. It wouldāve been easier to run.
Lanaās still holding your hand tight in hers. When she lets go of it, she wipes her hand on her elegant dress. Like she knows the foul, selfish things that go out in your head, and theyāre leaking all over her perfect skin.Ā
āSo youāre the new toy?ā She looks you up and down, lip curling. āDeanās lowered his standards. Or maybe he just⦠hit his head. Would explain why he turned me down last time.ā She sniffs. āFor you.ā
You blink at her. His name cleared your head a little.Ā Those last words make everything sharp.
āHe what?ā
She rolls her eyes. āOh, please. This sweet little bunny routine doesnāt work on me. He might think heās loyal right now, but he always thinks that. Then he gets sick of it, and comes back to me. Itās just taking a little longer this time.ā
āHe-ā You take a deep breath. Loyal. For you. In love. āLana-ā
She smirks. āAw. You say it like Dean does.ā
Your eyes narrow. This is something that wouldāve folded you in a second, just a few days ago. Before all the touches and whispers and slowly stripped away veil. The light that might still be warping the world, but at least isnāt blinding you anymore.Ā
Itās helping you see.Ā He turned her down last time. Months ago.Ā For you.Ā
āWhat exactly.ā You take a large step forward. āDid Dean say to you about me?ā
Her nose twitches. She raises her chin. āDoesnāt matter. Heāll come back to me-ā
āIf it doesnāt matter.ā You counter smoothly. āYou should have no problem telling me.ā She recoils, and you raise your voice. āDid he turn you down for me, last time?ā
Lana scoffs. āLike you donāt know. But you were worse than I was, just stringing him along. At least I love him-ā
āI didnāt even know who you were.ā
She blinks like you slapped her, and you take a step forward. Things are falling into place too fast, a perfect storm thatās going to sweep you away in a moment. But right now, the sky is clear. Your head is quiet.Ā
And you have no doubt about which parts are real, as you hold Lanaās gaze.
āHeād never told you about me, until this weekend.ā You say softly. āAnd I do love him. I love him, and I like him, and- He wonāt get sick of me. But he seems a little sick of you.ā
Lanaās eyes narrow. Her tongue flicks over her lips, and you hold her gaze.Ā But her lips twitch up. Cruel and hateful. Her voice cold.Ā
āItās so sweet that you think that.ā She coos. āBut girl to girl, I should tell you I was trying to warn you. About how he thinks heās loyal.ā She takes a step forward, voice dropping to a hushed taunt. āBut he was in my room last night.ā
You blink at her, the words ringing in your ears, and itās like she pulled on a single thread. It unravels fast, the whole world going with it. Months and months of doubt, of fear, of the reality youād taught yourself to pick apart and dissect, suddenly merged with your fantasy, unspooled into your greatest fear.Ā
You take a step back, eyes wide, and Lanaās smirk grows.Ā Dean isnāt there to ground you, as the world slips from under your feet.Ā And you-
You canāt speak. Canāt breathe. Canāt think.Ā You canāt be here anymore.Ā
The pillows still smell like Dean. It clears your head, after a few hours of crying into them.Ā
You hadnāt had enough strength to just run. Youād stumbled out of the wedding and back to your room, mostly just trying to get away from the flashing light, noise, and sound of Lanaās voice. Your intention had been to leave. To pack your bags, text Dean that you needed to go home, and leave. Instead youād found your clothing mixed with Deanās and your knees had started to feel weak. Youād collapsed on the bed with shallow breaths and tears streaming down your face.Ā
It had smelled like Dean.Ā So youād ripped the dress off your body, buried yourself under the covers, and sobbed.Ā
It helped. It usually does. Dean couldnāt have gone to Lana last night, because he was with you. He wouldnāt have go to her first after a nightmare, especially because heās told you that youāre one of the only people that knows he had them. Itās you, Sam, and his mom.Ā
And you trust him. You really do.Ā He wouldnāt do that. Not after being so disgusted just by Lanaās name.Ā Sheād just wanted to hurt you. Something you understand. Youād like to hurt the other girlās youāve seen with Dean too.Ā
But now youāre the girl. The one he danced with, and brought to his brotherās wedding. Who he crawled to in the dead of night, and ran out the moment she got scared.Ā
You mostly just feel stupid, now. Youād felt stupid for trusting him, then not trusting him, then stupid for hiding and stupid for being so confused over something so dramatic, stupid for caring, stupid for crying, stupid for being unable to do anything but cling to him all night, and stupid for hugging his pillow to your chest like some lovesick teenager.Ā
And stupid for falling back into old patterns. Because you have this habit, when youāre upset. Itās another part of that secret world in your head.Ā
You think of Dean.Ā Imagine him comforting you the same way heās done before, but in bed instead of the living room. His arms around you, voice deep and soothing in your ear, hands tracing your body in a gentle remind that heās here. Heād brush his lips over yours, before kissing the space between your eyes. Mutter that everything was going to be okay, then kiss your cheek.Ā
Hold himself gently over you, blocking you from the pain of the world, and smile gently. Say something stupid to make you laugh, and get those crinkles by his eyes when you try to hide your face.Ā
And youāre going to be ashamed of this later, but not now. Now, you let your thoughts run wild, alone in bed. Let them carry you where they always do, when you think of Dean.Ā
His lips on yours. The heat of him pressing down, the low grunts that would leave his chest, how his muscles would flex and hips would roll when you dragged your nails over his chest. Working yourself up fast, whining his name as he knee pressed between your thighs.Ā
The heat is starting to build. You whine his name into the dark, and heād chuckle to himself.Ā
āSo needy already.ā Heād whisper in your ear. āDonāt know what youāre askinā for, baby. Iāll make you forget all about those pretty tears.ā
You bite your lip, and let your hand wander between your legs. Your hand fists the sheet, a soft breath escaping your lips as your fingers start to tease your folds.
āSuch a dirty girl. Thinking of me touching her, still fuckinā crying about. You can be a real brat sometimes,ā heād kiss your cheek, a smirk in his voice. āGet real dumb, for how smart you are. You think Iād ever want anything else? When I got this perfect fuckinā pussy-ā Heād pinch your clit, and youād squeak. āSoaked and ready for me whenever I want it?ā
āYes.ā You whimper. āReady, Dean- So ready-ā
āHm.ā The Dean in your head drags his thumb down, pressing it over your slick entrance. āLook at you, crying for me everywhere. Jesus, youāre really this desperate for it, huh? Need my cock so bad I could bend you over at a damn bar and youād beg me to take you.ā
You nod at the air, trying to cover your mouth with your free hand as you start to fuck yourself with your fingers. Itās so so easy to imagine theyāre Deanās.
Heād press them into you fast and rough, unforgiving and brutal, all while teasing his thumb around your clit. Keep your mouths attached until your eyes were rolling back, lightheaded from the pleasure and lack of oxygen. Heād whisper filthy things, call you his slut and his perfect girl in the same breath, watch as you came undone below him from barely anything at all. His hand flying back and forth over your pussy as he dragged your orgasm out, your mouth falling over in a cry of his name-Ā
Dean says your name.Ā Not the Dean in your head.Ā The real Dean.Ā
You shoot upright, your face burning, and heās standing in the shadows near the door. His face is red, your head still spinning from your orgasmāthe thrill and embarrassment of being caught only making your stupid, traitorous body more aroused and needyābut you have enough of a mind to know you shouldāve ran. Should run right now. Should jump out the fucking window, because he caught you.
It was all supposed to be a secret. Something you died with, a love that burned inside of you until it made flowers bloom over your grave. He was never supposed to know, but this another thing thatās real. Too real. Dean really caught you calling his name as you came. Youāre really still shaking with desire like a feral animal.Ā
Dean gapes at you, his eyes raking over your body. Itās mostly hidden under the sheets, save for your tits.Ā
His eyes linger there, on your hardened nipples and swollen breasts. He takes a ragged breath, his tongue flicking over his lips. You pull the sheets higher, and his eyes snap to yours.Ā
āDean-ā
āI thought you- I was worried. Just lookinā for you, and you- You were shoutinā for me. Through the door.ā
āI- Oh.āĀ
His throat bobs, voice dropping lower. āThought you needed me.ā
You blink at him, and maybe itās the aftermath of the orgasm, but your every nerve feels like itās lit up. Like heās touching you, without a single hand. You open your mouth. Close it. Deanās eyes flash.
āDo you?ā He prompts softly. āNeed me?ā
You stare at him. Your back is completely bare, and the cold air pricks at your sweaty skin. Just uncomfortable enough for this not to be another fantasy. Itās not in your head.Ā
Dean takes a slow step forward, his hands fisted at his side, and itās not in your head. Heās here.Ā
Thereās a bulge in his dress pants, straining through the fabric. Thatās not in your head either.Ā
āDo you need me, sweetheart.ā He almost growls. āāCause I need you.ā
Your mouth falls open. Your legs spread under the sheets, like his voice alone pulled them apart.Ā You nod, and Deanās eyes flash.Ā
āYou-ā
āYes.ā You breathe, rising up a little on your knees. Trying to get closer, but not daring to move and ruin this. āPlease.ā
He swallows. Takes one step forward, than another, then-Ā
Dean yanks his jacket off, and almost runs to the bed. Grabs your face between his hands and dragging you up into a long, rough kiss.Ā
A kiss.Ā Not lips casually or teasingly on your skin.Ā A real, deep kiss.
Sloppy and open-mouthed, as he angles himself over you. His hands fisting in your hair, body towering over yours, consuming your every sense. He tastes like champagne and cherries from dessert, feels warm and strong over you, smells like the spicy, warm cologne he saves for these special occasions. His tongue presses over yours, and you rise up to try and meet him a little closer. He groans, and the sound vibrates through your body. Ā
You grab his wrists, and his knee lands on the mattress, letting the kiss deepen. One hand drops to your bare waist, and you arch into the touch.Ā
Dean lays you slowly down on the silken pillows and sheets. Your legs spread wide in invitation, your pussy on full, wanting display, and you gasp when his clothed crotch presses over the aching nerves. He grinds himself against you, mouth working against yours until youāre gasping for air between kisses.Ā
āDe- Dean-ā You grab his shirt, trying to drag him closer. āYes- Fuck-ā You hump against him, lips spreading in a wide, stupid smile. āDean-ā
āJesus,ā he groans your name, rising up over your body. You whine at the loss, but one massive hand finds your breast, and itās like a drug.Ā
Deanās attention is fervent. Unyielding and hot, as one hand plays with your breasts, and the other keeps you pinned down with his palm flat on your stomach. You writhe into the torturous touch, but thereās nowhere else youād ever want to be. Not when his fingers pinch and roll you nipple, dragging a high sound from your throat you didnāt know you could make.Ā
His eyes flash, and he repeats the movement. Over and over until youāre squirming and fucking up into his crotch, clawing at his chest for just a little more pressure. Youāre already sensitive from the first orgasm, already raw from the emotions of the night. You need more.Ā
āMore, Dean- Please- Oh-ā
He stops playing with your breasts, and drags his hand down your side. The touch is light and teasing, making a soft giggle escape your lips. You look up at him with open adoration, some part of you still convinced this is another fantasy. That you can look at him like this, and there wonāt be any consequences.Ā
Dean swallows, another low noise rumbling through his chest. He moves his hand to trace your face, and you lean into him with a happy hum. His thumb brushes over your cheek, over a tear still stained on the soft skin.Ā
He frowns slightly, eyes scanning over your parted, swollen lips and glossy eyes. You know how you must look. Youāve seen yourself in the mirror after crying often enough.Ā
You smile at him hopelessly, hoping youāre a hot enough mess that heās not changing his mind. He swallows, and lowers down over you with a heavy sigh.
Kissing you slow and gentle, the hand on your stomach dragging down.Ā
Cupping right over your bare, dripping sex.Ā
Dean groans, rubbing back and forth. Heās not changing his mind at all. Ā
āIāve got you, baby.ā He murmurs against your lips, arms wrapping around your thighs. āGonna make you feel good, pretty girl. So fuckinā good.ā
You moan, trying to lean up and chase his lips as he pulls away again.Ā But once against the brief moment of cold is more than worth it.Ā
Dean folds you up. Pushes your knees up to your chest, fully exposing your pussy to the air. You reach for him, and he catches your arm. Presses it over your head with a wink, before dropping his gaze down to your glittering, puffy cunt. Already leaking for him, squeezing around nothing in anticipation. He blows on it, and you shudder below him.Ā
āSon of a bitch,ā he mutters. āEven damn prettier than I thought, sweetheart. All wet and ready for me.ā
āFor you,ā you breathe out, head spinning with desire. āJust you, Dean, please-ā
You moan loudly, as he snakes his hand around to rub your clit. His eyes are fixed on your slack expression, as he rubs tight circles. His jaw tight, as you flush and turn to boneless, pathetic putty.Ā
Dean smirks, drawing back for a split second, then slaps your pussy. Not harsh. Just enough to see if you like it.Ā
You go completely limp below him, a slurring sound of need leaving your lips.Ā
āMore,ā you manage to whimper, and Dean nods. Slaps your pussy again, then again, eyes locked on yours the whole time. āDean- Fuck- Dean, please-ā
āThis what you were thinking about me doing?ā He grunts, pressing his hand firm against your sore, throbbing core. āWhen you were touchinā yourself, callinā my name?ā
You nod pathetically, and he moans.
āYou do that a lot, baby?ā He lands another hit, and the pleasure darts through your every nerve.Ā
āYes, yes- All the time-ā
āKnew it.ā He mutters to himself, slapping you again, watching the way your whole body reacts to the single touch. āI fuckinā- Thought I was going crazy, seeing what I wanted, but- Shit, look at you-ā
He lands one last, rough slap, and you moan. āDean-ā
He presses forward, somehow folding you into a little ball you didnāt know your body was capable of becoming. It seems to reshape itself, though, to whatever Dean needs it to be. He kisses you, deep and softer than before, almost loving. Like youāre not a wanton, messy wreck in his arms.Ā
āCan I show you what I think about?ā He murmurs against your lips, far softer than before. āPlease?ā
You nod, too busy trying to get drunk on his kisses to use your words and respond. Dean smiles, kisses your nose, then draws up. He grabs your wrists again, but pulls them down onto your stomach. Lets your sink your nails into his knuckles and palms, squeezing gently back as he kisses your inner thigh.Ā
Sucks a little mark on it, before kissing it again.Ā Kisses over your clit, open-mouthed and wet. His tongue swirling. Driving you out of your mind, before switching to the other thigh. Sucking another little mark, then licking that one too.Ā
Licking a thick, long stripe up your pussy. Then another. Pressing his tongue into your weeping pussy, before traveling back up to flick your clit.Ā
His eyes never leaving yours. He gets faster and faster with every motion. His tongue presses on the sensitive skin between your pussy and ass, then swipes right up. Taunts your clit with the lightest touch, before dragging back down. Over and over until your breathing is shallow and desperate.Ā
āDe- Dean- Fuck- Dean-ā
He moans against your pussy, and you try to buck off the bed, but his body presses forward, pinning you easily back down. He chuckles at the desperate look on your face, his mouth never leaving your clit, and you might be about to explode.Ā
Then his plush lips wrap around your clit, and his tongue starts to work fast. Tiny, controlled little flicks that build you into a frenzy, his eyes still locked on to your, a soft pressure lighting you up as he sucks-Ā
You cum without warning, every nerve in your body lighting up as your pussy remains trapped against Deanās face. You try to wiggle away, the feeling overwhelming, but he drags you back with a moan. Heās hard, against your back. Hard and big, rutting slightly like this is getting his off, and that just sends you over the edge all over again.Ā
Youāre trembling, by the time Dean finally lets up. He gathers you up in his arms, humming gently, and hauls you up into his lap. Kisses your neck, then you cheek, then your lips.Ā His shirt is gone. Youāre not sure when that happened.Ā But his pants are still on.Ā
You paw at him. Whimper and grind, giving him a pouting, hopeful expression. Heās so hard, and you want him everywhere. Pounding into your cunt, no matter how sensitive it already is. In your mouth, in your hand, between your breasts, release hot over your skin, whatever he wants.Ā
Dean just sighs, gently guiding your wrists away. āYou were crying, baby-ā
āDonāt care.ā You whisper. āDean, please, please, please-ā You rise up, pressing your brow against his. āI need it, please.ā
Dean swallows. His tongue darts over his lips, and he rubs with mouth with a worried brow. You think heās going to tell you no, for a terrible and long moment.
āAlright.ā He murmurs, hand moving to his belt. āBut- Can you promise me weāre gonna talk in the morning. Please?ā
āMhm.ā You nod, your eyes fixed on his crotch.
Heās big. Thick and big, and your mouth is watering.Ā
Dean chuckles. āYouāre drooling, baby- Jesus-ā
Youāre climbing fully over him, something feral taking over your brain. You need him. Need him bad. You must be moaning it, because Dean holds you close, and doesnāt waste time.Ā
Strong hands find your hips. Pick you up, then guide you back down onto his cock. You moan happily, your arms wrapping tight around his neck. He groans, pressing his face into the crook of your neck.Ā
āFuck... You feel good, baby, so fuckinā good-ā
You smile to yourself, rolling your hips, and Dean moans.Ā
āShit- Hell yeah-ā He leans back against the headboard, hands lazily wandering your body as you grind back and forth on his cock. āThere you go, pretty girl, take what you want- Jesus-ā
You squeeze around him, and Dean head falls back with another sinful moan.Ā
āDonāt- Fuck-ā
You squeeze again, and his hands grip your hips tight enough to bruise.Ā
āPlaying fuckinā game, baby- Fuck- Keep doinā that and I wonāt-ā
You giggle, and squeeze again. Deanās eyes flash, his hands freezing.
āYou think this is fuckinā funny?ā
āMaybe.ā You whisper, lowering your lips to inches from his. āHi.ā
His eyes drop to your lips. You squeeze again, and he moans. āShit, Iām warninā you, baby- Fuck-ā
Thereās something dangerous in his voice that you need to hear more of. You test the waters.Ā
Dean snaps.Ā He rolls you over, flipping your positions, and starts to piston his hips. The bed squeaks from the force of it, your mouth falling open as he drags you so perfectly apart, and he smirks.Ā
āYeah, there you go. Not so fuckinā- Christ-ā
Dean drops down, his brow pressed against yours, eyes fixed on where his cock is slipping in and out of your pussy. Itās a lewd, enchanting sight. The way heās transfixed by it almost makes you cum again.Ā
āLook at us.ā Thereās a soft awe in his voice, for how heās destroying you. āTake me so well, sweetheart, fuckinā made for this cock-ā
āDeanā¦ā You whine, and he looks back to you with a smirk.Ā
āYeah, thatās it. Thatās my girl.ā He kisses you deeply, thrusts pushing every thought but his name from your head. āThatās my good girl, take it, fuckinā take it-ā
You moan, and he doubles his efforts. Groans, his dirty talk slipping into moans and grunts of your name, his mouth barely leaving yours for more than a second.Ā
When you cum, itās all consuming. Your vision goes white, toes curling and body arching off the bed. Dean shouts your name, yanking out and beating himself into his hand, cum spaying over your thighs and pussy. Youāre gushing with your own release, mixing with his, and when he drags his fingers over your pussy, a tiny orgasm shakes you like an earthquake.Ā
Dean helps you clean up. Guides you through the motions, even if your brain is still hazy from the overstimulation. Takes care of you like youāre his.Ā
He said you were.Ā And none of that was a dream.
Dean doesnāt sleep on the floor tonight. He curls up with you after changing the sheets, tangling your legs together, breath hot on your neck.Ā
āIn the morning.ā He whispers as sleep pulls you both under. āWe gotta talk in the morning.ā
You hum, too drunken on his everything to really hear.Ā And you fall asleep peacefully, and dream of things that are, for once, within reach.Ā
My girl.Ā Dean called you my girl, last night. He wanted to talk in the morning.Ā But heās gone when you get up.
You touch the mattress, and itās still warm. You get dressed with your thighs still aching, and poke your head into the hallway. Heās not there either.Ā
Your hand slips. You take a stumbling step forward, accidentally pulling the door closed, and it closes behind you. Leaving you locked out.Ā
Something in you wants to cry, but something else doesnāt feel like you deserve it. You fell into the fantasy. You let yourself get swept away.Ā
Maybe heās just getting something.Ā You cling to hope, instead of fear. For once in your life, you try to look at whatās in front of you, instead of your head.Ā
You walk downstairs, because if heās not there, at least you can get another keycard. The lobby is busy. The line at the desk is long, so you sigh, and step fully outside. Into fresh air.Ā
And suddenly, youāre back at the beginning again.Ā
Dean calls your name from behind you, and heās shoving his through the crowd. So fast, he doesnāt seem to notice the glass door closing behind you. Your mouth falls open as he slams into it, and he stumble back with a groan.Ā
You swallow a laugh, rushing forward to help him. He grabs you in an instance, his hand over his brow, groaning at the impact.Ā
āFucking, Dean-ā You guide his hand away from his face with a sigh, running your fingers over his brow. āWhat was that?ā
āThought you were getting away.ā He mumbles, eyes locked on your face. āYou ran last night, just- Worried you were doinā it again. Wanted to catch you.ā
āI was looking for you.ā You mutter, and he winces as you find the bump. āShit, sorry-ā
āāS okay.ā He catches your hand, pulling it slowly down. Rasps your name, squeezing lightly.Ā
You swallow, and look into his eyes. Heās wearing that strange expression. The one you finally learned how to read.Ā
Love.
āI was getting you breakfast.ā He mutters. :And I kinda talked to my Mom last night. She saw you with Lana. Said you looked upset. I was- Cominā to talk to you about that. Last night.ā
You flush, glancing around the milling crowd. āCan we- Do this later-ā
āNo.ā
His voice is firm, and you look back to find his face set. Determined.Ā
You mightāve protested, if he wasnāt right.Ā
The way the light bends around him, thereās really no one else in the world.
āI donāt know what she said to you.ā Dean mutters, thumb tracing over your knuckles. āBut- I broke up with Lana ācause I didnāt like her. I wanted to be with someone I liked.ā
āDean-ā
āYou told my Mom you love me.ā He says quickly, and your eyes widen. āAnd you asked if sheās ever gotten sick of my Dad. And- She says that you told her you never get sick of me.ā He swallows. āI donāt know how to do laundry, sweetheart. You gotta sometimes be sick of me.ā
You shake your head, voice soft. āBut- Iām not.ā
Dean takes a ragged breath, and you force the question out.Ā
āAre you? Sick of me?ā
He shakes his head, mouth twitching. āNever. I- Hold on-ā
He lets go fumbling in his pocket for a second before pulling out his phone. He swipes back and forth with a tight frown, then lets out a heavy breath. Turns the screen for you to see.
Heās showing you a photo of a ring. Itās elegant. Classy and expensive looking.Ā
You frown. āWhat-ā
āItās my grandmothers.ā He rasps. āMom gave it to me when I moved out. Kept it in storage, ātill I- I met you. āS why Sammy had to know we werenāt fakinā. He asked for it for Jess, day after he met her. I had to remind him that I told him I grabbed it for you. After you-ā
āLiked your waffles.ā You breath, eyes pricking with tears. āDeanā¦ā
āI was in love with you then.ā He says, voice low. āSammy thought I was crazy. Maybe I was.ā He takes a deep breath, searching over your face. āAm I, sweetheart? Crazy.ā
You smile. Look at him, and smile.
āNo. Youāre not.ā
He chuckles, shoulders relaxing. āAwesome.ā
āYeah. I love you too.ā
āEven better.āĀ
āIt is?ā You tease, because you canāt help it.Ā
Dean smiles. āYeah. It is."

wonwoo is for the girlies who grew themselves up, who developed themselves by themselves within themselves, who were never the chosen ones, who were always held back in school despite having massive amounts of talent, who are organized, who had a rushed childhood, who aren't the best-treated sibling, who is stoic, who have massive weights on the head with nowhere to put down, who are a quiet kid with suppressed bubbly side, who thinks they are hard to love, who are not easy to understand, who are combinations of contradictions.
They finally arrived at the mall and decided to first go to a clothing store which was Sunoo's pick. (it's definitely not bcz other two lost in rock paper scissors)
So now Jungwon and Niki are looking around the store as Sunoo tries on different outfits that he picked.
As Niki was looking at a shirt he thought looked cool he saw that a person down the aisle would sneak glances at Jungwon every few seconds, so he approached his friend and told him that someone was looking at him.
After turning around to see who was it a wide smile spread across the older one's face.
"Omg y/n hi!" Jungwon said waving at the person that was sneaking glances at him.
The person in question slightly waved back deciding to approach their old friend.
"Hi Jungwon it's nice to see you again." Y/n said softly at the boy.
"Same here I'm glad to see you again." Jungwon smiled but then realised that there was another boy there in their company "Oh sorry, Y/n this is my friend Niki, Niki this is my friend from middle school Y/N."
Niki was just standing there kind of dumbfounded at the person that his friend was introducing him to. He could tell that Y/n was very quiet and reserved maybe even shy he assumed seeing them fidgeting with their rings. But the thing that left him dazed the most was how beautiful this person was.
"Hi" Niki said after few awkward seconds reaching his hand out for them to shake
"Hello." Y/n said almost inaudible looking up at the boy.
Both of them just kind of looked at each other for a few seconds until Sunoo's voice broke the silence.
"I'm back" He said with two big bags in his hand. "Oh hi Y/n!" Sunoo smiled greeting the person that Jungwon introduced him to a while back. "Haven't seen you in a while how you've been?"
"Oh I've been good Sunoo thank you for asking." Y/n said breaking out of their daze letting Niki's hand go which made Niki frown just slightly, this was unfortunately seen by Sunoo and Jungwon which both smirked slightly.
"I see you've met Niki our wild maknae." Sunoo said referring to a currently uncanny silence coming from the boy. That silence was broken by Niki turning to Sunoo's direction and defending himself "I'm not wild, just funny which I know you're not very familiar with."
Y/n slightly laughed at his teasing and playful personality which they weren't very familiar with wanting to surround themselves with people that were similar to them, feeling more comfortable like that but they couldn't deny that Niki's personality was very refreshing.
After hearing a laugh Niki turned his head in Y/n's direction and smiled seeing their eyes crinkle as they laughed. They soon stopped and have seen that Niki was looking at them smiling, they just smiled back at him and bid their goodbyes to the group.
Niki was left quite dazed as he looked at their back soon leaving his vision. His two hyungs smirking at him knowing that they now have teasing material.
Niki soon left his dazed moment and then widened his eyes.
"I didn't ask them for their number!" He exclaimed and then started running out of the shop going in the shop he thought he has seen you come in last.
Soon he found them and arrived right in front of them maybe a bit too close though.
"Uhm can I maybe have your number?" Niki said putting on his more confident personality that he usually used but still shaking a bit in nervousness.
"Yeah sure." Y/n said in their soft voice that Niki's grown to feel like it's very comforting.
After giving him their number Y/n decided that after a bit of overthinking they've done while typing in their number, that they will kiss his cheek so they've done that, with shaking hands holding his shoulders to support them.
Niki stood there dazed with a burning red colour climbing up his face all the way to top of his ears but then he smiled realising that he brought up a bit more confident side to them.
He came back to his two older friends with a big smile on his face that still remained even after his friend Jungwon told him that he had their number this whole time, because if he didn't have ran he wouldn't get that kiss on the cheek.

You walked down the hallway to Jungwon's dorm questioning how the hell did they let his roommate have a kitten in the school dorms. You knocked on his door waiting for someone to open it and SOMEONE in fact did.
"Oh hi I'm y/n Jungwon's friend." You say to who you suppose is his roommate Sunghoon.
"Hi I'm Sunghoon, nice to meet you" He says to you with a charming smile on his face. You can make out one other figure behind Sunghoon who looks like it's interested in what you're talking about.
"Anyways come in." Sunghoon says showing you the way.
"Thank you." You smile at him.
You entered the dorm and saw that figure that you saw before,he was smirking in Sunghoon's direction before introducing himself to you as Jay.
"Anyways it was nice meeting you two but where is Jungwon?"
"Oh he is just showering he'll be out in a minute" Jay said after seeing that Sunghoon was still in shock realising that you actually talked to him. After Jay informed you about Jungwon's whereabouts he all of a sudden arrived in the room.
"Oh hi y/n."
"Hi Wonnie." You said coming up to him to hug him when you realised he has a kitten in his arms
"Omg look at that little baby!" You said coming closer.
"Can I pet him?" You said turning to Jay and Sunghoon.
"Yeah ofc!" Sunghoon said a bit to loudly which made Jay laugh at him.
You started to pet Sunghoon's cat which was in Jungwon's arms.
"It's so cute Sunghoon." You say turning to him. He just smiles back saying that he's glad you think it's cute.
...
You hang around Jungwon's and Sunghoon's dorm for a little while longer getting to know Sunghoon and Jay more while Sunghoon's cat purrs in your lap as you stroke it's fur. All of a sudden you feel vibration in your pocket. You pull your phone out and see a message from Niki that says he's hungry and you have to get back or else he'll die out of starvation.
"Sorry guys but I have to go to my dorm now I have to feed a child." You say chuckling "But I'll like to get your numbers you guys are very fun to talk to"
Sunghoon and Jay agree giving you their numbers as you leave the dorm.

Hii guys soo i know i haven't posted in a while but i just don't have any motivation and I'm trying to fix my grades as much as i can.My mental health was pretty bad but it is slowly getting better and i hope that i will soon be able to get bact to the thing that i really adore doing and that is writing and talking to people who share the same interest as me

One where a group of up and coming youtubers and streamers try to live a life with fame and accept all of it's pros and coins. They stick to each other through romance, drama and friendship.
"Hey guys, welcome back to another vlog"Sunghoon said picking up his camera and pointing it at himself.
"This one is going to be a lot more chill and it's basically just a day in my life."
Sunghoon set the camera down on the sink so it could record him brishing his teeth. After he was done with that he picked it up and left the bathroom.
He entered his living room where his two roomates Yeonjun and Seungmin were.
"Good morning"he greeted.
"Morning"Yeonjun said looking at him."Are you filming?"
"Yeah it's for a vlog can i film you?"
"Yeah sure, but where are you going"Yeonjun said.
"I'm going to Soyeon,Yuqi and Yn's place wanna come?"
Yeonjun nodded while Seungmin said that he was to tired to come and that I.N was going to come later to play games.
The other two left and bought some food on the way to their friends house because Yuqi told them to.
After they finnaly arrived at their house they knocked on the door that Soyeon opened to them.
"Did you buy stuff"She said peaking her head through the slight crack of the door.
"We did"Sunghoon said."Say hi to vlog"He said pointing the camera lens in her face.
Soyeon waved and smiled at the camera."You can come in"
After the two boys entered they saw Yuqi and Yn eating at the dinner table.
"We're here!!"Yeonjun shouted as if they couldn't see them right there.
The two girls got up and came in the hallway where the others were.
"You're too loud Jun"Yn said with a sleepy look on her face.
"Agreed"Yuqi said placing her head on Yn's shoulder.
All of a sudden Soyeon said that she has to leave to have breakfast with her family. She hugged everyone and left.
"So did you brought food?"Yuqi asked
"Are we only delievery guys to you?"Sunghoon asked pretending to be insulted.
"Yes"Yuqi and Yn said at the same time.
"I'll pretend I didn't hear that"Sunghoon said moving forward and sitting down at their couch making himself comfy.
"Well you're felling homey aren't you?"Yn said now resting against Yeonjun for support,Yuqi going to the kitchen to pour some drinks.
Sunghoon pointed the camera at them and then turning it back to himself and making a stinky face.
"Do you see how I'm treated?"
"Oh stfu you princess"Yuqi said coming back to the living room slaping Sunghoon on the back of his head
"Do you see what i mean?"
"Stop being dramatic"Yn said sitting down on the arm rest next to Yuqi picking up a joystick to play super mario kart with Yeonjun while Yuqi and Sunghoon eat.
It started out calmly until a few minutes later when Yeonjun all of a sudden sped up and got in first place which .ad Yn wake up a bit more.
"How tf did you do that?"
"I'm just better admit it."Yeonjun said smugly smiling
"Never"Yn said getting up and into Yeonjun's face competitively"Rematch?"
"Sure but don't cry when I win"
"You wish"
After the two of them got back to playing the game Yuqi and Sunghoon looked at each other in a knowing way and then looking back at the camera with the same look on their face.
After few hours of playing games Yeonjun and Sunghoon decided to leave after saying their goodbyes to their friends.
When they got back home Sunghoon decided to film the outro and go to sleep.

After a very fulfilling and upbeat day it was safe to say that you were exhausted.
You see,the boys were swimming in a pool for the majority of the day and their upbeat and excited behaviour wore off on to you and other staff members.
You are mutual friend of these guys and you were very grateful that they decided to invite you to their little vacation, even though you wouldn't be able to talk to them as much bcs of the cameras.
After spending some time with Beomgyu watching him blow the balloons and seeing what Soobin,Hyuka and Taehyun were doing, you decided to check up on your boyfriend Yeonjun.
You weren't really sure where he actually was,so you were kind of just walking around with two cups of coke in your hands. You didn't mind walking alone though, because the night was so beautiful and it contrasted the vild morning and day that you had.
After some walking you finally saw a familiar head of black hair lying on a nearby hammock, camera pointing at him.
You approached the hammock from the behind, slowly putting cups down on the ground.
"BOO"You said grabbing Yeonjun's shoulders.
"GAAAHH"He screamed almost falling off the hammock."Oh it's just you"
"Yeah, who did you think it was?"You said crouching down and taking the cups of off the ground.
"I don't know one of those assholes."He said sitting up so he can make some space for you."Most likely Beomgyu"
"Nah,he's really calm right now, just blowing the bubbles in the corner"You said pointing a cup in his direction, which he gladly took with a silent thank you.
You two just sat there in a comfortable silence enjoying the scenery around you and your alone time without any cameras until Yeonjun saw you slightly shivering.
"You cold,sweetheart?"
"Kind of"You said rubbing your arms in an attempt to make yourself warmer. It seemed like you underestimated the cold summer nights.
"Here"Yeonjun said taking off his flannel and wrapping it around your shoulders.
"Better?"
"Yeah, but now you will get cold"
"No I won't"
"Yeonjun you are literally in short sleeves right now."
"It's fine, better me than you"He said sending an over the top wink your way, which made you punch his arm. This made him let out a dramatic groan and wrap you in his arms pushing you both into a lying down position, with you on top of him.
"Now none of us will be cold"He said kissing the top of your head.
"You're too much Junnie"
"I know"He said showing you one of his charming smirks, which made you raise your eyebrows at him.
"Oh,you know you love it"He said referring to his flirty persona.
"I kind of do."You said raising your head to look at him in the eyes.
"Oh,just kind of?"He said holding your chin in his hands and pulling your face closer to his,now speaking his word right next to your mouth, your noses touching.
"You talk too much Yeonjun,I want to see you in action"You said with a sudden urge of confidence in you.
"You want some action, alright, then honey put your lips on mine"
And put your lips on his you did, slowly moving them in the silence of the night, with crickets in the background.Yeonjun placing his hands on the back of your head and pulling you closer to him, like asking you for a challenge on who could hold on longer without oxygen. At the end you pulled back but still kept your face close to his.

Plushies [š§]
Genre:fluff,drabble
Pairings:Huening Kai x GN!reader
Pronouns:none
Warnings:litteraly one curse word
A/N:I am so sorry for the very, very late answer but i was very busy with school, but currently I'm on a spring break so I hope I can write more š
You should definitely think about what you are telling Choi Beomgyu.Especially if it's a secret.
You see,you told your so called friend Beomgyu that you might have a small, tiny crush on your best friend Huening Kai and now he has told the rest of the guys and now they have all put their minds to making you guys get together.
How do you know that,well... because they all literally ditched on your little get together and now you are left alone with Kai.
Usually you wouldn't have a problem with that, but ever since you figured out that you have feelings for him it became a little awkward. But Kai didn't seem to realize that you were fidgeting next to him,bcs of how nervous you are.He was more mesmerized interested in all of the animals surrounding you.
"We need to see the penguins Y/N"he said holding onto your arm like a little child asking their parents for permission.
"Then let's see the penguins."you said.
After getting your permission,Huening Kai out of instinct grabbed your hand and started guiding you to the penguins habitat.
You were glad that he was slightly in front of you so he wouldn't see how flustered you looked.
When you finally arrived there he let go of your hand and started looking at the penguins and you couldn't help but stare at his side profile. You were wondering how someone so angelic could even exist.
You decided to take your eyes off of him,not wanting to be creepy. And as your eyes left his face a little shop came in your view.
It looked like a souvenir shop with all the different animals as a theme. You saw some plushies, magnets and all the different kind of things.
All of a sudden a brilliant idea came up to you.You could buy Kai a plushie,it wouldn't be weird because you guys would buy each other gifts all the time. And knowing his love for plushies and penguins you knew he would love it.
"I need to go to the bathroom,I'll be right back."Kai just nodded and smiled at you as he continued to look at the animals.
You were glad that the line in front of the shop wasn't very long so you finished quickly. And with a penguin in your arms behind your back, you approached Kai.
Your heart was beating so loud, and you didn't even knew why. This is a normal thing that friends do.It's not like you're going to confess, you're just gonna give him a toy for God's sake.
"Hey,Kai"You said rocking on the balls of your feet.
"Yeah?"He said turning around and you swear on everything that he turned around in slow motion.
"I...I just wanted to give you this"You pulled a toy behind your back and pulled it in front of your chest.
"It's so cute!!!Thank you so much."He said taking the stuffed animal from your hands and holding it close to his chest.
The shine in his eyes and a wide smile on his face have done it for you.
"I like you"
Shit
Well there it goes not confessing to him.
He looked at you in shock that slowly changed into a soft look as he stared at your flushed face.
His hand raised your chin,so you could look at him.But you were still avoiding looking at his eyes.
"Hey,look at me"He said slightly titling his head
"I like you too"
Boom
There goes your heart
"Really?"You said now looking up at him.
"Mhm"He mumbled as he smiled at you.
You smiled back at him which made him feel butterflies in his stomach. He then sneakily glanced at your lips, which made you stare at his.
"You are so beautiful" He said coming closer to you.
"Can I?"He asked
"You can"
And with that your lips met in a long awaited kiss as a penguin plush was squished between you two.
Bonus:
"See i told you that my plan would work out."Yeonjun said standing up from a nearby bush
"Yeah but it wouldn't work if I haven't told you that Y/N likes him"Beomgyu argued with him
"I already knew that"
"No you didn't"
"You guys need to be more quiet if you don't want them to see us."Taehyun the voice of wisdom said.
"No they won't,right Soobin?"Beomgyu said turning around to the place where Soobin once sat.
"Where is he?"
"Oh I see him"Yeonjun said pointing his finger somewhere.
"He went to buy more snacks, didn't he"Taehyun asked
