System Software 4.0 | Folders, UI Refresh & More

Sony have today lifted the lid on upcoming PS4 update 4.0. With some big changes & improvements to the systems UI.

UI Refresh - The systems overall interface has had a face lift, such as improvements to the “What’s New” tab. New System backgrounds have been added, smaller pop-up notifications & redesigned system icons.

Folders - It’s been a long time coming but yes, folders are finally coming to PlayStation 4. Users will be able to group games into custom folders to help reduce clutter on the screen. Other improvements have been made to the library menu in terms of sorting out games and applications. 

Share/ Quick Menus - Both the Share & Quick Access menus have been completely redesigned (shown in screenshots above) both menus now operate faster and more effectively. But most noticeably they now only overlay half the screen with new options within each menu to help access certain settings faster.

Trophy Improvements - A new “Offline mode” has been added to the trophy menu, allowing users to view their trophy’s even without an internet connection. A button has also been added that will allow show/hide hidden trophy’s. 

User Profile - The User profile section has also been updated, making it easier to view various information about a player, such as trophies. Players will also be able to apply background images to their profile either pre-set images or screenshots from games.

Sony have said that more features are coming with the full release of the update, however until then those of you that applied for the beta the update will be available from tomorrow.
