Watched this back in February. This movie was very beautiful. Visually quite stunning and colorful. Calum Turner is a dreamboat for sure. I’m always so impressed with Elizabeth Olsen’s performances.

Best In Show ; 2000

Rip to Catharine O’Hara. We need ridiculous comedy like this again. Just absolutely hilarious.

I watched this back in February after Catherine O’Hara died. I loved her a lot. A lot of people really loved her.

The Little Mermaid ; 2023

Please just know when I’m complaining about all these live action remakes and reboots and sequels I’m not talking about you sweetie. You’re beautiful and magical, moody and romantic.

I’ve been going back and forth trying to figure out how I want to post these. If I only want to post my first time watches, post all, pick and choose, etc. I decided to do what I want. This was a rewatch back in January.

Sleeping Beauty ; 1959

This film is so beautiful. I’m always really fascinated by the sequence when Aurora is caught by the wisp. There are frames where she’s lit on the stairs and in the doorway and the rest of the screen is basically black, you can’t see anything else. I remember that being so freaky when I was little.

Sinners ; 2025

I rewatched this back in January. This film is so special. I could feel it as I was watching it for the first time.

I was thinking about movies I would want to see again for the first time if I could and this is definitely one of them. I just remember being so enthralled and thinking I’d never seen a movie quite like this. The entire production is so impressive. Such a beautiful film.

Companion; 2025

My mom and I watched this a little bit ago and I was really impressed with the performances in this movie.

Will never get over Kat going to sit next to Iris as she’s dying and the last thing she says is, “it’s gonna rain.”

Hamnet; 2025

I saw this in theatres with my mom and my great aunt. This movie made me cry a lot.

This movie was so beautiful and emotional. The opening shot was so enchanting. I loved Agnes’ red dresses. The sound was interesting, it made me feel like I was there. (I don’t know if that’s just me or if that’s even a real thing but it felt that way.)
Jessie Buckley is phenomenal in this. Her shock and grief when he passes. Also, when Hamnet tells Judith, “I give my life to you. I’ll be brave. I’ll be brave.” 
Absolutely heartbreaking. The film definitely made it feel like Shakespeare wrote that as much for Agnes as he did for Hamnet and himself. I hope he did. 
The sound did bother me whenever you heard them writing on paper. Like nails on a chalkboard. 

Just learned Shakespeare was only 18 and Agnes was like 26 and now I have issues.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch ; 2001

I bought this movie during one of the Criterion Barnes & Noble 50% off sales. I wanted to watch it because Eric and Otis dress up as Hedwig and go see it every year on Eric’s birthday.

This movie was so interesting. What a way to illustrate such an intense, emotional and complicated journey of self acceptance. I went through feeling so awful for Hedwig and also kind of hating them. 

I did read one theory about how Hedwig dies in the car wreck. Makes me want to watch it again. 

This made me think of Eric and Otis in Sex Education dressing up as Hedwig and going to watch this movie every year on Eric’s birthday. 

Also, blue eye shadow will forever be iconic.

Bugonia ; 2025

Watched this with my mom earlier this year. Very impressive and unexpected.

The score for this movie is so interesting. I really enjoyed it.
Knew she was an alien when she asked to have a fucking dialogue, who speaks like that.

Paris, Texas ; 1984

I watched this for the first time this year back in January. I understand why it’s so many people’s picks when they go into the Criterion Closet.

Why is the mystery always postpartum and/or a too old alcoholic, rageful husband. 

The lighting and color in this movie blew me away. Such a beautiful movie both visually and emotionally.
