Silence looked down at the tunic they had borrowed from the young lord, looked at the small jewelled crest. They were still proud to wear it and represent his lord's family but...in light of how well-dressed everyone else was, it felt a little embarrassing.

she blushes, slightly bashful as she admits, “i wanted to ask you to dance with me? i know we’d spoken earlier this week about the ball, and you’d said you’re not much of a dancer….. but i don’t mind leading, and a few trodden on toes shan’t kill me!”

she quickly but gently guides silence’s hands to the proper position, one on her waist and the other holding hers. they take off, elizabeth leading but trying to go slow enough to let the knight get a hold of the “one-two-three” rhythm of the footwork.

It wasn't...no, it would be unseemly to assume. And a lady at that.

They swallowed and put a smile on their face, continuing to dance with a bit more ease.

seeing their hesitance to believe her flirting, elizabeth decides that she’ll need to lay it thicker.

as they continue sweeping across the floor, she smiles with a gleam of mischief in her eyes, “you know, i couldn’t help but stare a little when you were competing in the tournament. your back flexed, fingers so steady on the bow, eyes so concentrated! i simply couldn’t focus on how you shot, i was too distracted by the handsome knight behind the armor.” sliding her hand on their shoulder to the nape of their neck, twirling a few strays curls in her fingers.

They felt the fingers curling lightly in the hair at the nape of their neck and laughed slightly. It tickled some.

her eyes soften when she hears them laugh, their voice was too sweet for how tough they looked.

“i do shoot, though i prefer bullseyes to animals….i also hate to use my skill at the cost of an innocent life, the way they organized a hunt with the amulets and ‘prey’ was interesting, though i’d be scared out of my mind being chased! i would love some archery practice, it’s always been my weak point. as for others being more handsome, i can’t say i’ve seen many prettier knights than you, ser. and i am no flatterer, i only speak the truth.”

It suited her, where in others, in might seem garish.

"Do you not partake, Lady Elizabeth?" Silence asked. "I apologise if my breath smelled too strongly of wine. I don't usually indulge at home...or not quite this much."

They bowed and went in search of the cookies of which she spoke. There seemed to be an abundance of food--how was one meant to find anything?

Finally, they eyed a table that seemed to have sweets, alongside pitchers of water, mead, red wine, and other curious beverages, many of which they had never recalled seeing.

Silence picked up a small plate and placed upon it an assortment of good-looking baked things. Some, they recognised, poppyseed tarts with honey, fruit pastries with cheese, but others looked foreign, albeit still tempting.

oh. oh no. she’d said that aloud.

"It's perfectly fine, Lady Elizabeth." They chose a small poppyseed cake and took a small bite. It brought to mind memories of their late mother and grandmother. This made their stomach fall a bit, despite the pleasant company and general gaiety.

“you know, i can make a decent kolache! my favorite ones are the apple filled, and the cinnamon in them brings it all together.”

she decides to change the subject, “so what’s your favorite part of the ball so far?”

showing off her doe eyes, and licking her lips to get the crumbs off, she lets her eyes roam over their figure. “mine has been the company….”

"Oh, is there...something on my face? Oh God..." They wiped the back of their mouth with their hand, nervously.

"Not oblivious, Lady Elizabeth. Just don't like to presume."

The heat and noise of the revellers was becoming a bit oppressive. "Yes, let's. I could do with a bit of fresh air."

a breeze rustles the flora and fauna surrounding them, just chilly enough to make her shiver.

“they grow so many lovely flowers here, my favorites are the pink roses or the sweet honeysuckle that grow along the wall. of course, they have practical gardens too, fresh fruits and vegetables growing in neat rows over there, but the flowers are just so pretty!!”

They watched her, smiling. "I would offer to pick you one, but it seems poor manners to take without asking, especially from so generous a host. So, if you will, imagine I did." They laughed softly. "It will last longer that way, too."

elizabeth lets her hand softly caress silcence’s fave as she brings it back down, never once breaking eye contact. her lips part, and her tongue darts out nervously to wet them.
