Fabian stopped his pacing when he noticed Professor Darcy approaching. âYeah, just joking. Sorry, professor.â he sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets. Though he was certain Darcy thought he was crazy for a number of different things, this wasnât another one he wanted on his list. ââŚAs long as youâve watched me standing here, and no longer.â It was a joke answer, sure, but he actually didnât know the truth. âHave you heard anything new?â
âThatâs what I like to hearâ Rob said giving Fabian a small smile, he had learned to tell the twins apart while on the Quidditch field, but it wasnât hard to translate that if one was paying attention. âI donât want to pretend to understand how you must be feeling, but know that some of the other professors and myself asked the headmaster about allowing visits, it would do her good, it would do you good, so just hang in there until itâs approved okay?â Robâs best friend was a muggleborn witch, protecting her had been one of the things that had lead him to join the order in the first place, people would do anything for the people they loved. âYou alright?â

Rita pursed her lips, surprised that he didnât bite back at her comment. She hadnât exactly had quite a confrontation like this before with him, so it was new territory for them both. She folded her arms and had to refrain from rolling her eyes too. Clearly, he hadnât been informed of her drastic personality change. It was only a matter of time before someone filled him in with all the cold details, so why not give him a taste?
His voice was laced with worry, but it wasnât enough for Rita to even bat an eyelid. Why would he leave, if he truly cared so much about her? Why wouldnât he write, if he gave a shit? âBecause they have a reason to be terrified, Robbie.â She stood up a little straighter and eyed him with confidence. âIâm Rita Skeeter. Youâve been gone a long time, clearly, you need an update.â Her words were venomous, far too much-repressed anger being put into them. âNo one crosses me and gets away with it. And as far as that whole worrying brother act youâve got going on? You can cut it out. Iâve been on my own for seven years and I donât need anyoneâs protection. I can handle myself.âÂ
It had been silly, almost childlike, to hope that the relationship between him and his sister would survive the test of time. Although he had to admit it had not being something as simple as they stopped seeing each other âcause one of them moved or attended boarding school, and more about Rob walking away and never looking back. Sure he couldâve handle things better, and all Rita -and most of those who knew who he really was- only knew he distanced himself from his family for his Quidditch career, but in reality walking away was also meant to keep her safe, he had been young and bringing her along would not have worked out, he would be dooming her.
âBecause you are Rita Skeeter?â Robbie said starting to raise his voice, âno one crosses you?!â he shook his head, âso you turned into dad? is that it? no one crosses you...â he said again confused about how the girl he used to know was capable of saying such things, âI can see that, I- I can see you are more than capable, so you handling yourself is not what concerns me, but rather-â he didnât even know what to say, âhow exactly does people not get away with crossing you?âÂ
Fabian hadnât eaten a single bite of his breakfast before leaving the Great Hall. Now his stomach was growling, which felt stupid given the circumstances, and he was almost as annoyed with the noise as he was with the nurse who wouldnât let him in to see Mary. She needed to ârest,â they had said, and he got that, obviously, but she was his best friend and now she had been attacked and he hadnât been there for her and he just wanted to make sure she was okay.Â
Now he was just pacing down the hall near the hospital wing, when he heard footsteps approaching. Fab didnât even bother to look up at them before he asked, âHow much trouble dâyou think Iâll be in if I hex a school nurse?â he had meant it as a joke to help calm his nerves, but honestly⌠he was kind of considering it.Â
âI would say between detention and expulsionâ Robbie said with a shrug, he had been on his way to ask for an update -well not really, but they figured out maybe the attacker would be lurking, waiting for an update, everyone hoped that upon waking up Mary would be able to tell them what happened, so far Madame Pomfrey had made it clear that was a big if, not the recalling what happened part, but the waking up. Of course the official information was that the girl needed rest, and she was healed, which was true, in a way.Â
They had also dealt with those close to Mary trying to see her, âPrewettâ Robbie was still learning the names of his students, some were easier to recall than others, âI know you are close to Macdonald and I know you want to see her, but you need to be smart, attacking the nurse would be foolish, which is how I know you are joking, how long have you been standing here?â
The days after accepting the teaching position were excruciating, there were moments when Robbie almost reached out to Dumbledore to tell him he was backing out. But he had fought the thoughts that told him he was going to make a fool of himself and now here he was, weeks after the start of the new term, and he was doing a decent job, well there were no complaints, so he assumed it was a decent job. Of course he wouldnât have been able to do it without AnaĂŻs, she had been a constant in his life since his life started to have any meaning. And now with the recent explosion at the muggle music store at Hogsmeade, and one of their students attacked, Robbie couldnât be done with his workday any sooner, he finished his last class and headed for her classroom. He knocked on the already opened door, âAnaĂŻsâ Robbie called, âare you busy?â
âWell pretending I didnât see anything wouldnât be very professor-y of meâ Robbie said with a smile, âI wanna say... Gryffindor?â he asked squinting, while he had memorized his entire first and second years, the upperclassmen still escaped him.Â

Rita wasnât blind. Sheâd sensed someone following her as soon as she entered the alley, but it wasnât a new experience and sheâd hand her hand drifting near her wand in case she needed to defend herself.
But what she hadnât expected, was a voice cutting through the air like a knife, stopping her in her tracks and squeezing the air from her chest. Sheâd know that voice anywhere, but she hadnât heard it in seven years.
No. It couldnât be.Â
And yet, as she turned and her eyes fell on him, she knew he wasnât a figment of her imagination, even if heâd been many times before. Her big brother was standing before her, in the flesh, seven years after heâd abandoned her. Her mind raced, wondering what he could possibly be doing back. Had he finally come for her? Did she even want him to, after all the years sheâd spent being angry at him?Â
Her eyes flicked to see the trembling Gryffindor in front of her and her attention only made them shake more. Clearly, they werenât trying to threaten her out of their own choice. With a single glare, they turned and ran past Robbie, not even bothering to look at him. Rita was terrifying enough on her own and she definitely didnât need her big brother to save her like she was some damsel in distress.
She managed to compose herself enough to face him, the shock of it thankfully not letting it fully sink in just yet. She knew itâd hit her later on when she had the chance to actually comprehend what was happening.Â
Eventually, she spoke, tilting her head to look him up and down with the best bored expression she could muster. She hated being caught off guard, but over the years sheâd managed to perfect her fake attitude. âItâs funny. You look like someone I used to know. Pity you canât resurrect the dead.â
He would be lying if he said he hadnât expected some sort of confrontation when he first saw Rita again, he had after all left leaving her behind in the very place he was running away from. And no matter how much he told himself it was for her own good, that she would be a thousand times better if she stayed with their parents, that she would be protected, that only accounted for the evils of the world, not for what lurked at home.Â
Still he had not expected to come face to face with her in an alley, after someone had tried to sneak up on her, wand ready. And what was even more shocking was seeing how his little sister managed to send that person scurrying away. Her words however hurt more than he could ever imagine.
âWhat was that about?â Robbie asked with confusion, he would deal with the bitter words she had spat his way later, she had every right to feel like that, but the rest, âwhy were they coming after you? And donât lie, I saw their determination, they had their wand outâ he said still full of worry, âbut you know whatâs even more concerning, why are they so afraid of you? Who are you?â
âOh,â Remus exclaimed in surprise, feeling a tad foolish as he caught sight of who had snuck up on him. He hadnât expected to bump into anyone up on the hill, especially not a teacher - and a new one to boot. So of course, itâd be his luck that Professor Darcyâs first impression of him would be of the idiot whose hand flew to his heart at a sneeze.
âItâs alright, Professor, it wasnât your fault,â he said, trying to reassure the older man as he offered him a sheepish smile. âI guess all the ghost stories finally got to me,â he added, cocking his head towards the shack.
âAnd yea, a sixth year, actually,â he helpfully supplied, watching as Professor Darcy drew up a blank. Not that he blamed him considering heâd only been there a few weeks and Remus wasnât the type to get caught on a broom.
âIâm Remus, by the way. Remus Lupin,â he added, politely holding out his hand.
Robbie took Remusâ hand giving it a firm shake, âI wonât forget your name again I promiseâ he said with a smile. Robbie felt slightly less bad about not recalling the studentâs name, upperclassmen usually didnât pick Flying if not interested in Quidditch, he had the odd one who wanted to be a HitWizard, but most student didnât continue with Flying after the basic years.Â
âSo whatâs that about?â Robbie said pointing to the Shrieking Shack, âI heard some rumours, but I donât remember it from my student years, is there a story to it, like did something actually happened? or is it just a good old urban legend?âÂ
âSo, the rumors are true then, I take it?â She had heard Robbie Skeeter or Rob Darcy - whatever he was calling himself nowadays - was coming to teach this year. She had just yet to see him in person, making this the first time she had laid eyes on him in almost ten years. He had aged quite well, that much she could admit to herself. Once upon a time, Willow had once had a childhood fantasy of her and Robbie and what they could have been. But, that had been so long ago. Before he had left his home (she had heard about it from others), before she had joined Voldemort, before Alex. It seemed like a lifetime away from where they were. She still held an amused look, âAre you serious? I will take a drink, but if you are going to sit, get me something stronger than a butterbeer.â
âSome of them areâ Robbie said with a smirk, when he took the teaching position he had but one concern, and that was seeing his sister again after all that time, but then he learned about Willow also teaching there and a part of him was nervous about the first time he was to come face to face with her. The first weeks he had straight up turned around the corner if he even so much as caught sight of her, but there was no running, not anymore, not after he felt that was he had done his entire life. âWoah really? You hate my face that much?â Robbie scoffed feigning hurt at her words, but he motioned the bartender for an actual drink before sitting down, âI guess some things truly never changeâ like for example him breaking the rules for her. âSo how long have you been teaching?â
So he did listen! Kitty was becoming increasingly aware that one of their newest staff members was awfully quiet with his random nodding here and there but she must have finally said something of interest to him. âOh yeah,â she nodded. âShe writes the hottest gossips in school. She has so many informants that sometimes even I am surprised how she has some of those info. But I guess thatâs her thing, yâknow. And certainly Iâm not complaining.â She grinned happily. She knew Rita wasnât the most virtuous person in the school but Kitty didnât have a problem with that. No one had high morals around here anyway, at least she was owning up to it. âAlso, please donât call me Ms. Travers. Among all my names, I hate that the second. Kitty, will do, Sir.â
Robbie tried his best to keep a stoic face as Kitty began to fill him in, he could hardly believe the girl was talking about his sister. Rita had been such a sweet girl while growing up, Robbie had tried his best to, well raise her -he had ended up taking care of her even more so than their parents- into kindness and empathy. Who was this person Kitty was describing? âIs that even allowed? Like doesnât it go against school regulations...â he asked trying to sound like his concern was coming from a professor point of view and not as if he was freaking out inside, âI mean I wonât take action, I donât even think thatâs my place, but I mean you are not complaining, but what about others? others mustâve complained right?â oh Rita what had she gotten herself into? âKitty it is, but I do have to ask, what name you hate the most?â
The Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade
The first weekend of October

There were people that once they came into your life their impact was so great that even if you tried you could never keep them away. Such was the case of Willow Mulciber, no matter how much Robbie had tried to extricate himself from her, their lives were so tightly wound that he could no escape her. The last place he had expected to see her was back at Hogwarts and yet there she was, teaching, of all things. Rob wondered if he had known she was part of the staff, would he have taken the position? most likely yes, his commitment to the order was greater than whatever had or not had happened between them. And yet every time he saw her he felt fifteen years old again.
âHeyâ Robbie said approaching Willow with caution, âyou want a drink? Itâs gonna have to be butterbeer or pumpkin juice though, âcause technically we are still on the clock...â

âI donât care what Kenneth says, Tobias with pink hair was the only Tobias so far that I could at least tolerate.â Kitty flipped the pages of her magazine while sipping her butterbeer. âDo you reckon Skeeter will publish another issue soon? Iâd say a lot would happen today. Hogsmeade is always fun.â She had a wicked grin on her face, clearly excited about all the gossip worthy incidents that would take place in the village.
Robbie was absentmindedly listening to the conversation, nodding in the right parts, in all honestly he had learned maybe two thirds of the names of his students, so most of the talk was about people he didnât know, well remembered. But then he heard his sisterâs name -his own last name- and he gave the speaker is undivided attention. âPublish?â Robbie said listing an eyebrow, he had to play this right or he wouldnât get any information, âIâm new to the school Ms. Travers so you are going to have to fill me in, what is this about Skeeter?â
So maybe Remus was a bit of a masochist. Maybe. But what else would explain why he was leaning against the fence surrounding the Shrieking Shack instead of enjoying the rest of Hogsmeade. He hadnât even realized where he was going until he caught sight of the shack and by then it was too late. Heaving a heavy sigh, he didnât even notice someone coming up next to him until they sneezed.
âOh god,â he exclaimed, whirling around in surprise, âyou scared me!â
Teaching wasnât easy, and chaperoning a trip even less so, but Robbie had gotten some pointers from his colleagues about key places to keeping an eye one, so he had headed down the road towards the Shrieking Shack, the name was ridiculously and Robbie had a hard time believing anything that was said about it. If it was truly haunted, why had he never heard about it before? Werenât haunted places usually old? He couldnât even remember seeing the building before, and he wasnât the kind to follow the rules and stay on the main road, he had wandered through town in his time as a student. Spotting a student Robbie walked until he caught up to him, perhaps the young man would have more information on the now famous spot.Â
âOh sorry!â Robbie apologized, maybe people truly believed the place was haunted, âthat was never my intentionâ he wanted to remember the studentâs name but he was still learning, âyouâre uh Gryffindor, right?â
Rita rolled her eyes, frustrated at how many of her obnoxious classmates were blocking the door to Gladrags. Sheâd headed straight there with the intention of avoiding the queue at honeydukes, but apparently hadnât taken into account the amount of fifth-year girls that wanted the to buy latest trends with daddyâs money.
Except when sheâd walked away and headed off on her own, she was met with another problem. Sheâd cut down an alley without realizing that a seventh year Slytherin had followed her, wand in hand.Â
A part of Robbie wondered if taking the teaching position had been the right thing to do, he didnât know much about teaching, and so far the classes had gone well, mainly the first years excitedly flying for the first time. But the higher years were constantly looking for a challenge, which left him doing a ton of research. With Quidditch season coming up his responsibilities were going to increase, but it seemed that had starter already with him being asked to chaperon the students trip to Hogsmeade.Â
If that wasnât enough there was the whole abandoning his sister thing, Robbie had not talked to her yet, and worried about what her reaction might. But as he stared at the scene before him he could not help but follow her. At first he wondered if that what his sister did now, met her classmates in an alley, but then Robbie noticed the wand, and he couldnât walk any faster. âWhatâs going on here?â Robbie called loudly standing few meters behind the scene.

key points:
international quidditch star sensation rob darcy was born robert darcy skeeter to elise and richard skeeter, robbie was welcomed into the world destined to be the golden child.Â
having their first-born be a male is a sign of good fortune, as there is an heir who would continue the family name and legacy. but as robbie grew up it became clear that his goals could not be further from those of the family.Â
first labeled as teenage rebellion, any talk of even acknowledging muggleborns as people with the same abilities as purebloods was outlawed at home.Â
robbie felt out of place in his family, and thrived once he got to hogwarts, where for the first time he was around like minded people, after growing up in pureblood society where the only thing people craved was power.Â
there was of course a downfall to actively trying to go against his family, and that was his little sister.Â
rita meant âand still does- the world to robbie. their parents were not the kind of people who raised their children, so they appointed nannies to care for them, of course the world saw them as a happy family, but they hardly had time for their kids. robbie took it upon him to make sure rita knew what it was to be loved and cared for.Â
but then his father asked robbie to take the dark mark, richard being a very prominent death eater. and everything changed. robbie knew he had to leave, for a moment he considered taking rita with him, he had been more of a parent to her than their parents ever were, but they were at war, and robbie knew she would be safer at home, their last name would keep her safe.Â
leaving her behind was the hardest thing Robbie ever had to do, but it was the right thing âor so he kept telling himself.Â
he not only refused to join the death eaters, but he actively wanted to fight them. as soon as word of his actions got out, an invitation to join the order arrived, he did not hesitate.Â
growing up in the skeeter household robbie learned than influence and a well placed PR opportunity could do things that even the best strategies couldnât. during his time at hogwarts robbie was a skillful and talented quiddicth player, with a promising career. and so he used his talent to become a quidditch star under the name rob darcy. and that placed him in a position where he could help the order across the country, and if needed on an international level.Â
the battle was won, and as robbie prepared to return to professional quidditch, dumbledore asked him to take a teaching position at hogwarts. despite his last name they had trusted him enough to join the order, now it was time to pay that trust back, and so robbie accepted.Â
he was the keeper and captain of the montrose magpies, and will now be taking over the flying classes and coaching of the quidditch teamsÂ
a part of him cannot wait to see his little sister again, but he also knows that she has a right to not want him in her life after all he was the one that walked away leaving her behind.
wanted connections:
best friend(s)
former classmates
professor buddies - heâs new to teaching so he would need some teacher friends to help him along the way.
the people we used to be - someone who immediately knows his true last name, maybe they used to be friends before he walked away.
suspicious activity - robbieâs following orders about keeping an eye on things. maybe someone letâs something slip.
order friends - people he fought side by side during the war
quidditch fans and fans of teams who played opposite him
