The white nationalist movement grew by 600% on Twitter in the last 4 years, outpacing ISIS
It’s now official: There are more white nationalists and neo-Nazis on Twitter than members and advocates of ISIS. A new report, published on Thursday, revealed that the follower growth of “major white nationalist movement and organization accounts” grew by 600% from 3,542 in 2012 to 25,406 followers in 2016. The study also found white nationalists surpassing ISIS in metrics from tweets per day to follower growth. But how Twitter responds to these 2 groups is most troubling.

Girl was handcuffed under stairs by a security guard at school
Chicago girl, 6, handcuffed under stairs at school for more than an hour after security guard decided to teach her ‘a f—— lesson’.
The reson for such a violent punishment was that kids told the guard Madisyn stole piece of candy, however her mother says it was a part of her launch. When mother came to school for her daughter, she was still handcuffed near the school’s boilers under the stairs. A Shocking situation made her file a lawsuit, alleging excessive force, false imprisonment and emotional distress.
“He said ‘I’m teaching her a f—-g lesson. She took a piece of candy and I handcuffed her under the stairs,’” Wordlow told The News. Additionally, “he told me if I was a real parent, I would find out what was going on instead of jumping the gun,” she said.
How dare they treat a little girl like that? First, fire the security guard and have some respect to a little girl, who had done nothing wrong!

Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race (2016)
“Before John Glenn orbited the earth, or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as “human computers” used pencils, slide rules and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets, and astronauts, into space.
Among these problem-solvers were a group of exceptionally talented African American women, some of the brightest minds of their generation. Originally relegated to teaching math in the South’s segregated public schools, they were called into service during the labor shortages of World War II, when America’s aeronautics industry was in dire need of anyone who had the right stuff. Suddenly, these overlooked math whizzes had a shot at jobs worthy of their skills, and they answered Uncle Sam’s call, moving to Hampton, Virginia and the fascinating, high-energy world of the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory.
Even as Virginia’s Jim Crow laws required them to be segregated from their white counterparts, the women of Langley’s all-black “West Computing” group helped America achieve one of the things it desired most: a decisive victory over the Soviet Union in the Cold War, and complete domination of the heavens.
Starting in World War II and moving through to the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement and the Space Race, Hidden Figures follows the interwoven accounts of Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson and Christine Darden, four African American women who participated in some of NASA’s greatest successes. It chronicles their careers over nearly three decades they faced challenges, forged alliances and used their intellect to change their own lives, and their country’s future.”

While im not a big fan of biopics since they’re being used for the same reason that we’re getting a bunch of reboots, thanks to capitalism, im glad this story’s getting told.
Where’s that trash anon post where the fucker was like “name one thing black women have done….NOTHING” or whatever ignorant shit they said. I hope they see this, and I hope they get angry about it.
This needs to be told and placed in history books. Throughout history PoCs have contributed a lot to make several historical moments possible, like "West Computing" group and Stonewall. Most of the time their contributions are minimized or they are erased completely and replaced by the "socially accepted" norm . Let's put a stop to this by sharing this story and supporting this movie by going with friends and family members. Accurate and more frequent representation of PoC is vital!!!
“Calm down so we can discuss this like adults.” Ever said something like this in a conversation on oppression? Tone policing is no way to get justice, and this comic will help you understand exactly why.
Watch: The trailer for ‘Hidden Figures’ is here — and it looks incredible.

Abled people complain about disabled people needing accommodations, because “in the real world there are no accommodations”.
But abled people receive accommodations all the time. Cars are an accommodation for those who can’t run a steady speed of 60 mph. Stairs are an accommodation for those who can’t jump from one story to the next. Phones are an accommodation for those who can’t communicate telepathically. Calculators are an accommodation for those who can’t do large math problems in their head. Lights are an accommodation for those who can’t see in the dark. Stoves are an accommodation for those who can’t heat things with their eyes. Clocks are an accommodation for those who can’t tell what time it is just by the position of the sun. Jackets are an accommodation for those who are susceptible to frostbite when it’s cold.
Abled people receive accommodations all the time, but since it’s considered socially acceptable to need those accommodations, they’re not considered accommodations. But imagine if you lived in a world where you needed those accommodations but most people didn’t. That’s what it feels like to be disabled.
This is an incredibly important post. As one of my favourite professors said, “Technology is not innocent.“ As in, all technology had to be designed by a human being. And chances are, if that human being had any biases or assumptions that could be translated into the technology they created, they probably wound up in there. Practically everything is designed specifically for abled people. Think about cars, for example. Could you drive a car one-handed? Well, yeah, very likely, but since most people have two hands, they designed the cars to use both hands. Two hands to grip the steering wheel, buttons and levers on both sides of said wheel, etc. There is nothing that says cars are better when you design them for one specific degree of physical wellness, but yet that is exactly how they’re designed. This extends to virtually everything human-made you see. I do mean everything.
So for the love of heaven, please don’t whine and complain when you see disabled people of any variety getting “special accommodations.” All technological design is purposeful. Every piece of technology you see was designed to accommodate someone. If you’re lucky enough to be accommodated by something’s most common design, don’t be an ass to people who would be better served by an alternate version.
Now, imagine for a second, my face when I recently found out that there is a vast array of merchandise that bears those words and my name for sale on the internet. T-Shirts (more than one model actually), pins, tote bags (you, too, can go to the market sporting a durable canvas bag with a slogan!), posters (hello #wokebae whose image was poorly photoshopped with my name on a poster!), coffee mugs, cross stitched frames (I cringed when I saw my name listed on a “graduation present” listicle on Bustle on par with women I only dream of ever emulating). The most egregious of these items is probably this cutesy little pin with a blond little girl picking flowers (I mean, really?! have you seen a photo of me with my very curly, thick black hair?!). Sometimes they do not even spell my name right.
My feminism will be capitalist, appropriative and bullshit merchandise — Medium
I wrote about finding out that my work is sold as “feminist merchandise”, with my name on it vs. the material realities of my life and what it means to be broke.
