while i'm on the subject of trans people trapped in the prison system, i'd also like to highlight the PCP. if you have the time (and it's not really a huge time commitment if you don't want it to be. you can write once a month!) to be a penpal to a queer person currently imprisoned, it means a lot to maintain connection to the community and to the outside world, especially to those serving life sentences. just remember to read their guidelines before sending your initial email to the org.
hi that's us! thanks so much for shouting us out. being a penpal can be so much more than just writing letters -- it can be a lifeline for queer and trans people in prison, who are much more likely to be isolated from people outside compared to their cishet counterparts. sometimes, the institution knowing that an incarcerated person is receiving mail can protect them from grave mistreatment. finally, we have been hearing from trans people inside that they are not being given information about the executive orders, injunctions, laws, etc. that are affecting their lives, and having someone who can provide that information makes such a big difference.
we have over 2600 people waiting to be matched up, please do check us out.
reblogging again to specify cuz i saw some people confused in the notes since they're based out of Montreal, but this project operates across the US and Canadian prison systems ! so if you're in either country you are able to join
Nigerian Pride 🏳️🌈🇳🇬
I meant to have this out yesterday. Happy belated pride. :)
As summer is approaching, I’d like to remind everyone that you are not entitled to ask someone to cover up their scars, self inflicted or not. I don’t care if they’re big, I don’t care if they’re noticeable, or purple, or all over their body, or what. You can’t police people’s bodies.
This also goes for my friends with feeding tubes, ostomy bags, central lines and urinary catheters. People are allowed exist in bodies that stray from the expected norm.
in addition, before commenting on any fat person's body or treating them differently because they're fat you can and should just mind your own fucking business instead!
yes especially when they're dressed for warm weather.
fat people are one of the primary targets of body policing and their harassment etc is virtually always justified with ableism.
im currently negative and would be welcome to help getting back to, at least, a zero balance. hoping this job lead ive applied to works out soon since i know someone who already works there 🤞🏽:

I started a story podcast! The first series is about people at high risk for covid-19, and what their (well, our) lives are like. Trying to capture beauty and meaning in lives often ignored!
The first episode is just 23 minutes, and I'm going to try to release new ones every other week until the end of the season!
Check it out here!
By The Wayside: Ep2 is live on all podcast apps! Greg and Kay live in a queer little bubble in the first years of the covid-19 pandemic. But when Kay's egg cracks, Greg is filled with mixed feelings. How does this change his identity as a gay man? And are his health needs holding her back? 21 mins, transcript provided.
Ep 3 is up! Russ remembers his childhood of chronic illness and shame, as he watches his kids becoming more and more separated from their peers. As the world starts returning to the classroom, Russ and his wife Neive try to figure out what their family's future is going to look like.
Ep 4 is now out: A brush with death made Cory committed to living her life to the fullest. But repeated covid-19 infections start to take that away from her. How could this happen to a seemingly healthy person like her? 19 min podcast with full transcript.
It's World Mask Week, why not listen to some short form audio fiction with a pleasingly noodly synth soundtrack about disabled queer and trans people who mask?

The Kenya Human Rights Commission has welcomed a landmark court ruling affirming that Kenyan law does not expressly bar applications
The Kenya Human Rights Commission has welcomed a landmark court ruling affirming that Kenyan law does not expressly bar applications seeking amendment of sex or gender markers in official records, in a decision seen as a major step forward for transgender rights in the country. In a judgment delivered by Justice Bahati Mwamuye, the court held that blanket refusals by state agencies to amend sex or gender markers amount to continuing constitutional harm. [...] KHRC described the ruling as a significant affirmation of the rights to dignity, equality, privacy, and recognition for transgender persons in Kenya, saying the court had reinforced the constitutional obligation of public institutions to act lawfully, reasonably, fairly, and in line with the Bill of Rights.

many ppl smarter than me have said this already but attacks on trans people’s personhood + attacks on immigrants’ & refugees’ personhood + attacks on disabled people’s personhood is directly connected bc both are imagined as threats to a white supremacist eugenic national body, there is a concrete reason that we are all being targeted simultaneously and dramatically and it is because fascism needs to constantly reproduce to survive

Do not quit alcohol cold turkey
Do not suddenly stop drinking alcohol as a new years resolution if you have been consistently using alcohol most days
Your body gets used to the presence of the alcohol as a sedative in your system
Suddenly removing the sedative you are chemically accustomed to is like suddenly removing the wall you are leaning on - you will topple over
You brain electricity gets overexcited
This causes seizures
This causes sudden onset dementia (Wernicke's encephalopathy)
This causes brain damage
If you use alcohol often (even in moderate amounts)
Or in large amounts
Or you have ever noticed you get shakey tremors and anxious when you stop drinking
Then your body is chemically dependant and you need to be very careful coming off alcohol otherwise you will cause brain damage
Slowly wean down the amount you drink over days or weeks
Talk to a doctor about your goals to quit and ask about support options
Medically supported withdrawal is a lot safer
If alcohol withdrawal goes badly there is a 15% chance it will kill you.
Do not go this alone
You deserve to be safe
Tapering off alcohol means reducing their drinking and getting sober. It’s a gradual process that limits alcohol consumption to avoid sympto
Helpful resource for weaning off alcohol at home (if you don't have access to medical support)

Open Gate Labs is in the process of closing with no plans to return. they currently have a massive clearing sale on many of their estrogens:
some good alternatives include Hera HRT, Aurelia Labs (currently out of stock), and Symphony Labs, which just recently started back up.
