What was so bad about Season 5 and onwards?
Letâs just go with my two biggest problems with Season 5.
The Dorne storyline was so fucking butchered I donât even know where to START with it, so letâs start here.
That wasnât even because they ran out of story from the books, D&D ACTIVELY CHOSE not to follow the Dorne storyline. And if I had to guess why? Itâs because it was a female strong storyline.
The main fucking character of the Dorne storyline, Arianne, the REAL next head of the house, was just outright not included. Not even a handwave reference of her existence.
Myrcella was to presented as the rightful Queen of Westeroes before her little brother because thatâs what the Dornish people believe. House Martell was to get the ultimate POLITICAL revenge on the Lannisters, both for Elia and Obreynâs deaths (this is Arianneâs plan, not Doranâs, but thatâs a whole other kettle of fish and tbh, Doranâs personality does nothing to suggest he would any sooner have Myrcella killed or hurt either, since having a Lannister/Baratheon marry into their family is still great both in terms of politics and revenge).
Arianne and Trystane ADORED her, and it is Tyene Sand who initially suggests the idea to make Myrcella the rightful Queen, and is Arianne who puts into motion the plans to put her on the throne. Yes, the other Sand Sisters were angry, and they were arrested to prevent them seeking revenge for Obreynâs death, but as far as I can remember physically hurting or killing Myrcella herself was never part of those plans.
Even though it hasnât been released yet, Ellaria even says HERSELF that she does not seek vengence for Oberynâs death because all that would happen is an unending circle of death involving the people she loved and cared for, and for what?
In other words, the Dorne storyline makes little to no sense in the show, butchers all the characters and their stories, and ultimate served as a folly since while the Sand Sisters and Ellaria ended up killing Doran for their own means to show case them briefly having power before they all ultimately met very gruesome deaths.
Baelish wouldâve NEVER sold Sansa to the Boltons.
Not in a million fucking years and he would sooner have had his own FUCKING DICK cut off before he sold Sansa SPECIFICALLY to Ramsay, someone who has a reputation of torture and murder and ruining political plans just for his own amusement.
Yes that storyline happened in the book, but it does not happen to Sansa.
Baelish has very obviously moved the projection of his feelings for Catelyn onto Sansa herself. Thatâs several shades of creepy, but itâs also several shades of important. Why would he then risk and endanger her by leaving her in the company of someone so vile?
yes, he hates the Starks, and yes he wanted to help the Boltons secure power in the North, but itâs not in character to sell the only living heir to someone who is very likely to scar her, physically and mentally. And assuming she would survive Ramsay, what then? She would forever distrust and hate Baelish. Something he does not want.
Thatâs why itâs important that it wasnât Sansa. He puts forward someone else as âAryaâ, since very few people are still alive at this point to remember what Arya looked like. I wonât go into fake Arya/Jeyne Poole too much, but basically it more or less plays out like it did for Sansa.
But why put Sansa in this role instead? You could use the excuse it was to avoid hiring another actress and having some other character to remember, but honestly? Thatâs a load of bullshit.
It was shock value for the sake of shock value.
Sansa already suffered at the hands of the Lannisters in Kingâs Landing, she suffered to a lesser extent under the jealousy of Lysa and other problems in the Vale. At this point in the story in the books, Sansa is learning how to play the game, and will eventually be the centerpiece to lead the armies of the Vale into reclaiming Winterfell in her name.
Sansa should be DONE suffering at this point in the story, at the very least, for this point in time. She SHOULD be learning how to manipulate others, including Baelish, to become a fine and capable ruler. So why is she instead put in the role of Jeyne Poole?
Shock value for the sake of shock value.
This is supposed to be a show that has a strong theme of politics and political warfare. So why do their moves make little to no sense?
Because D&D canât write or direct if their lives fucking depending on it, and unfortunately a LOT of fans are only just realising this now.
