i instantly got a different feel from this percy when they went with more of a daydreamer angle than troublemaker angle, but overall this percy is great. he’s got that bit of an edge and still a sweetheart. so far i see him as no better or worse than book percy, just different and fitting for the format of the story he’s in. its like ill just love any version of percy that is done with care. musical percy, book percy, tv percy—theyre all slightly different in which traits get highlighted more but i love them all
Still banking on more moments like with Mr D though where percy’s “you old sot (i didnt know what that meant but it sounded good)” side shines through
Luke on the other hand seems to be a significant IMPROVEMENT from the books. musical luke also felt like an improvement, but this is just incredible.
luke betrayal’s gonna HUUUUUUURT
i wanna elaborate further on my take on sally
i just feel like they’re missing a key aspect of her character, which is how gentle she is and how much of herself she is willing to give up for her son’s wellbeing.
with gabe being kind of a pussy and her arguing with him so easily, i feel like it really undermines how much book sally struggled behind the scenes to make things work (even though percy cares about her and does so much for her, the demigod side of him is something he hasn’t discovered yet and the burden falls on her to handle things — a form of mother’s invisible labour).
book sally married this absolutely horrible guy and went through years of abuse and didn’t fight back directly because the pain was nothing to her if her son was safe. the blue candy was their quiet rebellion against him, and as badass as she was, she wouldn’t have put gabe in his place the way tv sally did, because that wasn’t her priority and it just wouldn’t be worth the effort.
it just feels a little like when they make disney princesses more badass and less feminine?? or like when kpop men do “manlier” versions of girl group/artist’s dances? like it’s undermining her value as a softer female figure, because book sally isn’t a big, strong, badass woman that percy looks up to because she protects him, she’s quietly mischievous and caring and he knows she can protect herself but also protects her as best he can and their dynamic is lost a little bit when she stands up to easily to gabe in a fight that isn’t really worth picking.
and it also irked me a little when she explained why they go to montauk every year, because in the books percy already knows more about his father. she tells him stories growing up because she wants him to see the best in the world and not grow up bitter like luke, because even though she may resent poseidon (since he knocked her up at like 19 after her parents died, and left her broke and with a kid without finishing college), she understands to some extent why he left her and can’t be with percy, and she cares too much about percy and how he feels and what kind of person he is to let him feel her anger towards his father. so she suffers through that quietly too, so that percy can feel like there’s still someone out there who cares about him, like his father is someone to be proud of even though he doesn’t know him.
sally is meant to look for the best in the people that matter, but still be able to see their objective value. it’s a symbolic aspect of her character that she’s a clearsighted mortal, which means she can see these things herself and understand them, but does not have any role in taking action against these things until she has to for her son.
anyways that’s my take. regardless i still am enjoying the show and their relationship very much, but i just don’t think it holds a candle to sally jackson in the books!!!
The thing about Percy Jackson, which it seems a lot of people watching are just now realizing, is that he is fucking young.
And the thing about Percy Jackson, while partially chosen cause of Rick Riordan’s children’s age and partially chosen cause of Mr HP Scar from GB, is that the fact that he is 12? It matters.
You don’t realize it at first. Certainly not when you are 12 yourself. Certainly we weren’t realizing it while we reading along … aging alongside Percy. Being 12 ourselves when the story began.
But you realize it now. As an adult. Watching the show. How fucking, goddamn YOUNG Percy and everyone else around him was.
And ya know what? That’s the point. That’s quite LITERALLY what the story is about. That’s what inspires Luke, the anti-hero. That’s what inspires Percy, the hero, in the end. That’s what’s the whole thing is about.
Percy Jackson is about immortal gods choosing their own goddamn fucking children to fight their wars while they won’t leave the house.
So yeah. Percy is a child. That’s the point. And I love that.
i spent THIRTEEN YEARS waiting for an age accurate casting of percy jackson but now that it's here and i am no longer a child looking at heroes my age, i'm just plain HORRIFIED on behalf of these children.

These are my parents:
And they will be my children:
tiny details about the PJO tv show that I really appreciated
Sally has a New York accent that comes out when she's arguing
Grover picks at his horns when he's nervous
grover has a mother (or at least a maternal figure)! i really want to learn more about her!
Percy doesn't burn his blue candy at mealtime with the other sacrifices. he burns it at night, alone, in the woods behind the cabin.
the archery counselor casually offering Percy a giant lighter for his arrow, because why use a normal arrow when you could use a FLAMING one
eddie the plumber, who in a single line manages to be nicer to Percy than literally ANY OTHER adult man in his life (the bar is so low you can barely slide a piece of paper underneath it)
gabe playing poker online instead of in person; it makes him feel even more pathetic
literally everything about the set design and production design. wow.
"i'm gonna go find him"
he's so ready to beat the child support out of his dad
bless this iteration of Percy Jackson for genuinely believing, for at least three seconds, that he is the second coming of Christ
The book percy jackson (demigod I relate to and aspire to be like) to tv percy jackson (demigod I relate to and want to protect) is so real for those of us in our twenties

#they really nailed the Percy Jackson Sass™ in this show
you know that feeling of wishing you could go back in time and read your favourite book again for the first time? watching pjo tv feels like being able to do that
like i’ll never be 11 years old reading percy jackson for the first time again but i think this is the closest feeling i’ll ever get to that like i feel like 11 year old me got to watch that and i’m so happy for her and that’s a feeling that i am so grateful for right now
Percy Jackson and The Olympians episodes 1 and 2 + text posts
do u know how insane it is to remember the tiniest details of this series you read in your childhood years down to the miniscule moment with annabeth fixing percy's armor and then to have it In Front Of Your Eyes To See .
That writers room must’ve treated the Last Olympian as some sort of bible because they truly Get the idea that Percy does not like the gods. that he does what he does in spite of his opinion. They make sure that the audience knows that Percy doesn’t find this fair and that he doesn’t like this. That he and Luke are more similar then they expect.

love seeing the beginnings of perseus "pay your fucking child support" jackson's crusade against the gods' parental negligence problem in ep 1 & 2 of the pjo show. the absolute KING of "my daddy gave me issues so HE'S about to HAVE issues"
mr d: who's sally jackson?
percy:
