Two guys were hitting on me, I didn’t like it though because they were really old and creepy. (I’m gonna set the intention that only guys my age and attractive guys hit on me) Also, a lot of people were staring at me.

Mom: Afro-Latina 🇩🇴 & Garifuna (Black-Native) 

Dad: Latino-Asian 🇧🇷 (Indian & Japanese)

Before I get into the other stuff i’m just going say that i’m not saying being mixed is horrible,  you have a share of beautiful cultures and people. When I tell you the food at my house is so good. And the cultural clothes are so pretty. 

racism/xenophobia

Both sides of my family would slip up and say stuff about asians eating dogs, saying the n-word etc. but they would always follow up with “not you though, i know you’re not like them” but i was like them, i shared the same culture, same ancestors as them. So they didn’t realize when they said shit like that they were still insulting me. 

mixed privilege

I’m brownskin with 3c/4a hair so i’ve faced  both the positive and negative sides of colorism and texturism. I’ve had my black side of the family praise me for having “good hair” but the asian side tried to get me to straighten it. It’s very interesting being brownskin, because although I didnt get the privilege lightskins did , i didnt get the blatant discrimination darkskins faced either. My abuela would tell me to not stay in the sun too long so I wouldn’t get “too dark’ 

fetishization

I’ve had people literally try to be friends with me because they have this weird blasian fetish its honestly fucking disgusting. 

invalidation

I didn’t really have a problem with my identity until I got to high school and went on social media. I had people telling me that I shouldn’t say my dad was fully asian because he was half indian when india is literally in asia.  i was constantly told that I was lying about my race and told that I wasn’t x enough to claim it. I rep ALL my flags regardless of percentage. Also people saying im not latina when both of my parents are because they didnt realize latina is an ethnicity not a race. The whole blood quantam thing was created by white colonists to erase native history. My kids will be native, and my grandkids, grandkids will be native regardless of what “percentage” they are.
