BIOGRAPHY
Peyton wasn’t the poorest growing up, but his family barely got by. The term eviction wasn’t something he understood as a kid and his parents never explained it other than they had to leave the house they had in Seabrook Quarter and move into Ocean Crest Apartments. Peyton liked the change. He liked having various people living around him in proximity. And the pool? You had to drag him out any time he decided to swim. It wasn’t long before this new life started to crumble with his mom leaving him, his father, and his sister for a new boyfriend.
This hurt, but not enough for Peyton to change, unlike his sister who had changed overnight. He didn’t blame her. All he could do was support her and his father through the tough times such as the holidays. This was when he learned the meaning that when poverty arrives, love flies out the window. Despite being poor, life wasn’t all bad for Peyton. He enjoyed his childhood, and he grew to be quite a socializer. He talked to everyone, and sure he’d deal with some bullying due to his economic status, or that his clothes were secondhand, but he still managed to be a kind person to everyone.
If he weren’t at the pool, running around, or being a shoulder to cry on for his sister – you’d find Peyton reading. Reading was his escape and once he entered High School – he knew exactly what he wanted to do. He excelled in English and took the one creative writing course that was offered during his senior year. Writing just came naturally to him and his experiences made for good writing prompts. He felt set and confident in what he wanted for himself.
It was just one party. One night that changed Peyton forever. A night he was praised for and told that he was “lucky,” but he sure didn’t feel lucky. Flashes of that night haunted him for years and still do. Flashes of her touching him, holding him down and having her way with him while he was out of his mind. It’s not how he wanted it to go, especially not at eighteen right before graduation. He wasn’t the same after. He became cold, quiet, and reclusive. It changed the course of his life as well. He had been ecstatic to go to college, but decided to defer for a year or two while he sorted out the trauma he had been through.
There was no sorting as Peyton turned towards gambling and marijuana to numb himself. He did get involved in quite the rowdy delinquent crowd, but he never took it as far as they did. Two years passed before he thought moving would help him move on, so he left Aurora Bay for Las Vegas when he was twenty. In Vegas, he did end up in a relationship with a woman who was understanding of his intimacy issues, but he had drowned himself in debt due to his gambling addiction that it didn’t last long. He left Vegas at 22 and moved in with his sister, got a job at the library (surprisingly) and got himself into therapy.
Therapy was helpful, up until he decided to date someone who very much carried the rhetoric that men don’t get r*ped. This was two steps backward from the ten he had taken forward. This time, he ended the relationship as he didn’t want to be with someone who had no respect for him. This also caused him to end therapy.
The years have passed, and although Peyton does feel better – he still is as cold and distant since the incident. However, he recently decided to go to college - better late than never- to major in English with a minor in Creative Writing. He was also promoted from Front Desk at the Library to an actual Librarian when he was 26. He still lives with his sister at Ocean Crest, but not in the same apartment he grew up in. The Dyers can now safely say they are middle-class. He still struggles with intimacy and has decided to go back to therapy so that he can become who he used to be.
HEADCANNONS:
He was a virgin when the SA happened. He did want his first time to mean something so to have that taken away was a bummer.
The relationship he had in Vegas was surprisingly quite healthy and the first time he shared what happened to him. He wishes he had gotten his gambling addiction in check.
Other than the guys who saw the girl leave that night, his therapist. and his ex from Vegas - he has not talked about what happened with anyone, not even his sister.
His family was evicted from Seabrook Quarter when he was six.
He does not live in the same apartment he grew up in.
He signed up for college in fall 2023.
His last relationship was with Gracie between the ages of 24-26 so he's been single since
Peyton has been sober since the night he was assaulted.
He has his left ear pierced with a hoop.
more to be added soon....
