Oh, maybe you mean the homeless guy who had to strip down to get his clothes in the laundromat to clean them for the first time in weeks? He tried being subtle, but someone called the cops on him, and now he's on the sex offender registry for public nudity.

Oh, like the trans woman who got called a pedophile groomer for helping a trans kid escape her abusive parents?

Or maybe the black man who got labeled a rapist because he came on to another man's wife, and he decided to get back at him by charging him with rape?

How about the 17 year olds who were fooling around, fully consensually, in one of their bedrooms? That's still technically underage sex and thus rape of a minor.

Oh, or maybe you're talking about the doctor who performed genital reconstructive surgery in a state that just voted to get that classified as rape?

People will do everything they can to get you convinced rape and pedophilia are the worst crimes possible, then accuse whoever they like the least of being either a rapist, a pedophile, or both, counting on you turning on them just for being accused of the crime.

Once we decide a group is okay to kill, the government will do everything they can to convince you that their political enemies are either part of that group, or just as bad as that group, to get you to kill their enemies for them.

@traggots literally. literally. the way people are talking about "ai suicides" is one of the things that has made me realize what I'm talking about in this post^ needs to be said in the first place, because so many people think like. people are just asking chatgpt to write a grocery list or whatever and then getting unceremoniously coerced into suicide by it out of nowhere by a malicious force. and also that suicidal people are completely thoughtless and motivated by nothing in particular in their actions.

but it's very obviously lonely people who are already suicidal, without a safe outlet, finding what is essentially a safe outlet in a high tech diary where they can bounce their own thoughts off a wall, and then yes following through on those thoughts and urges since they evidently didn't have any outside help in the first place! made only more evident by the fact that the people in their lives were so out of touch/in denial about their loved one's emotions, that they felt the suicide could only be explained as something spontaneously and wholly prompted by a machine (very "social contagion theory", very "rapid onset dysphoria" adjacent thought imo).

banning chatgpt/ai (as some people are suggesting in response to these) is obviously not going to make the problem go away, and I don't think it'd even act as a bandaid to the problem. ai in this instance is fulfilling an emotional need for people that is going to continue going unfulfilled until the root causes are addressed (ie. until people can talk about this shit with other people and get a kind and understanding response instead of threats).

until then people are always always going to be finding alternative outlets to express these emotions in a safe, or at least safer, manner. if it's not chatgpt, it's a pro-suicide forum. if it's not a forum, it's an old fashioned paper journal. etc etc.

The reason why women* are "allowed" to be masculine when men* "aren't" allowed to be feminine under patriarchy is because DYKES and BUTCHES and other masculine women* SPENT DECADES FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHTS TO EXIST PUBLICLY.

The fact that women* can wear pants and suits etc. and are not constantly forced to be hyper feminine/in adherence with strict gendered dress codes without punishment (AND ONLY IN SOME COUNTRIES!) is a win on behalf of feminist political action NOT because of some baseline acceptance of masculinity in everybody by the patriarchy.

(*and people forcibly socially classed as women and men)

Like oh my lord some of you need to shut the fuck up and learn what it was like to be socially classed as a woman before the sexual revolution and what it continues to be like outside of the imperial core.
