god I'm such a slut for Chinese eggplant in garlic sauce *decides it’s inaccurate to refer to myself as a slut in light of my minimal sexual activity* if The Enemy discovered my ardor for Chinese eggplant in garlic sauce, they would gain a significant strategic advantage

Look at this Glorp
Suh Ankripton: The New Kryptonian Language from Superman
The latest from Jessie and me is Suh Ankripton: the new Kryptonian language from Superman (2025). It shows up in a key (but minor) way in the new film, though you'll hear it again in future (and a lot more of it). It's head-initial: SVO and inflectional, with verbs that are meatier than we expected... Eventually I'll put the dialogue from the movie up on my AO3, but I want to wait until people have had a chance to see it, as the dialogue plays a key role in the film. Look for that in the coming weeks!

Happy Bird-day to Doki the Bird 🎂 #DokiBirday2026
opinions about drawing you did NOT ask about:
it is good to fill up a page with lots of something. it looks cool even if the drawings are bad
it is good to draw small objects you like
it is good to draw yourself (in a mirror, specifically, although little goofy cartoons? also great)
no need to erase or scribble over things you mess up - write a little regretful note next to em (if that) and move on. i learned this in 4th grade and believe it vehemently.
draw in pen. commit. see point 1.
the other thing about Internet dogpiling is that it is just not possible to think clearly during the acute stages. it’s so easy to criticize people for responding defensively or tactlessly to mass criticism but I cannot overstate the degree to which your brain becomes a rat in a trap. I think we do have to temporarily recalibrate our expectations in these circumstances and accept that they do not necessarily represent how that person responds to criticism. the skills for self-regulating and reacting to normal interpersonal criticism are not the same skills needed to respond to viral callouts.
as other people have pointed out:
for most of human history, if a bunch of people are really mad at you specifically all at once, it means you’re about to die badly. obviously that’s not the case with internet controversy (…usually) but our nervous systems don’t know that. I just think that’s a variable we have to consider inherent to the circumstances rather than an aberration.
The other factor I'm rotating in my brain is that for much of human history, social backlash for misbehavior (including shaming) was typically localized to some level of community or micro-community. Unless someone was causing widespread damage (I mean actual, material harm) the audience for the actions of an individual person would be fairly limited and they would be held accountable by their peers.
Now the concept of "community" is nebulous, which is a double-edged blade; even if your initial online community is relatively small, the potential audience for anything you say or do that makes it to the internet is anyone who has even tangential access to the internet.
We could go around in circles debating how much widespread reach translates to actual privilege or influence, and the level to which personal accountability scales with follower count or by publishing an indie novel or running a successful YouTube channel or (fill in the blank)... But it bears considering that there is a magnitude of difference between "guy says or does something shitty and offensive/ignorant and the people in his direct social circle hold him accountable and tell him he's being a shithead" and "guy says or does something shitty and offensive/ignorant and hundreds of complete strangers start demanding accountability, many of whom didn't even know who he was until they heard about what he said or did second-hand".
This is something I have to challenge myself to consider and admit -- what is my actual purpose in joining in with mass criticism? Do I actually believe that 500 people demanding accountability is an appropriate and necessary amount of social pressure being utilized to reduce harm, or am I angry and wanting to see someone punished via social consequences?
Even if my anger is completely justified -- even if the person "deserves" social consequences -- does the increased visibility of the offense actually correlate to the scale of the appropriate response?
(If the fine for littering is $10, does a thousand people seeing you litter mean you owe $10,000? Can we maybe imagine what someone's instinctive human response might be to a swarm of people surrounding them and all clamoring for $10 at once?)
Theres also the element of there being a vastly different social dynamic between a few upset friends and a few thousand. When your friends ask you to apologize, it comes with years of goodwill and the understanding that you are capable of learning from your mistakes. You can then apologize to each friend you hurt and move on.
If a thousand people are angry at you, then you won't know each person. Their judgement doesn't come with years of goodwill, and some of them may even be hearing of you for the first time. For those people, you aren't the generally nice person who was uncharacteristically mean. You're the stranger who did something bad, and with no other knowledge of you, they'll extrapolate your entire personality off of one offensive comment.
Each one will ask for accountability. Some of them will be nice about it. Some of them will be harsh with you. Some will even insult you. You will hear all of them simultaneously, but you will not be able to talk to all of them. You cant have a reasonable back and forth conversation with a thousand people. Even if you convince one person that this is a big misunderstanding, theres hundreds behind them. You won't be able to personally apologize to everyone either. You can release a public apology, but each person will have different standards.
Even if some people understand that you're sorry and want to do better, others won't. Some may be looking for you to be more emotionally repentant on camera, and you'll be asking yourself if you should have cried in your apology video. Some people will think you're being disingenuous, and fake crying will just make it worse. Some people will want there to be a punishment, and you won't be able to satisfy them at all. Some people won't even be aware you apologized because they aren't closely following everything a stranger says. Some people will just want to hate you.
There might even be people who hear about it years after it happened and get angry at you all over again, even if you already apologized and promised to do better. You could be subject to hurtful comments and accusations of wrongdoing for years and years off of one mistake. That's why people spreading around "receipts" has always carried an insidious undertone with me.
You physically cannot have a conversation with everyone who is angry with you, and no public statement will satisfy everyone. Even if the angry people are mostly made up of reasonable individuals, there will still be enough unreasonable people to continue stirring the pot despite your attempts to make amends.

Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.
Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.
they're not super common but i really do appreciate characters who are introduced as one gender and later revealed to be closeted trans. i like that it challenges the audience to really think about how they perceive trans people because realistically not every trans person you meet is going to be out to you at first. yes we introduced this character as a man and now we're asking you to reframe her as a woman after you've already gotten to know her. can you be normal about that? can you be normal when it happens to people you know in real life? i hope you can.
