And obviously, no this book wasn't a masterpiece. But I must be in the correct mood because even though this book really isn't good in terms of writing, or even plot for heavens sake... I was hooked. And it's erotica, so it has a different (lower) grading standard than I hold other genres to.

I genuinely wanted to read this over ToG #3, so that says something. However, Tem was also the most infuriating character ever. I feel like her character wasn't consistent. She was emotionally all over the place but completely aware of it and yet unjustified 50% of the time.

The end fucking UGHHHHHH. I don't care if Tem meant well at this point, because she has proved time and time again that her decision making skills are poor. But sending Leo off, SUCKED. Without even telling him what cresting is or giving him the choice to find Evelyn.

And then she just runs off to be with Caspen! SO RUSHED. Thank Kora there are more books, but jfc. That Leo chapter killed me, because I honestly wasn't even thinking about that until he's like, FUCK I just want Tem here???

Redeeming factors... the many S-tier one liners from both men. Saving Tem's dad. The killing of Caspen's father (whew). Leo coming to terms w Tem and Caspen's relationship - ALTHOUGH, I don't think he deserves that. Or Tem doesn't deserve him, atleast. Nor Caspen, honestly!

LIKE MAYBE 10 CHAPTERS AGO ID BE OKAY WITH THIS. BUT A LOT JUST HAPPENED. I THOUGHT WE WERE MAKING EVERYTHING WORK. WE JUST SENT HIM OFF IN 2 PAGES. BYE LEO.

-he was kind of honest in every way that counted. At least in his feelings for Tem. It is just, it's complicated so he can't really lay out a proper plan for the future yet. Or necessarily want to air out all basilisk secrets and politics.

But he told her he loved her, showed intent to marry. Shows obvious pain and jealousy when talking about how he is training Tem for the prince...

And he can just access her mind at any time, but she decides to fuck Leo anyways - right after Caspen says that their engagement could be approved under one condition. A condition she had yet to hear!

For some reason, I was on Tem's side until he gave her the torture flashback. I am on Team Sympathy for Caspen now. But I do think I am Team Leo in the end... sorry Caspen! You deserve someone better than Tem, perhaps.
