For another [reason], Aaron is not a psychopath. Which is what you'd have to be to stab your roommate for leaving dirty dishes in the sink.

When her smile faltered and it seemed like he had already fucked up and ruined her birthday with the question. "Come on Chuck. Don't say that. Benny's a fucking idiot. You're a catch and you'll find someone one day. You have your whole life ahead of you still," he tried comforting her, hoping to turn things back around.
He gripped at the steering while, silently debating whether or not he should let her in on some of his own struggles with the dating world. Of all the people he trusted, Charlie was one of the few he doubted would care about his truth, but it was still so hard for him to admit he was gay. Of course she was still young. Finding a boyfriend really shouldn't be all that high on her list of priorities - he sure as hell knew he wasn't ready to give away his little sister to some asshole who didn't appreciate her properly. Chuck had plenty of time to find Mr. Right. Same as he did he supposed.
"You know there's not a lot of people who like me either. Guys especially," he half joked, testing the waters of truth. "Plus me and Illy just broke up so we can be single together," he offered assuringly to keep her spirits up. "And you can rub your awesome birthday in Benny's face tomorrow in class."
"It's okay. Just don't... don't beat him up or anything okay?" It was less about protecting Benny than it was about not wanting JP to get in trouble. "He kissed me as a prank." She hadn't really expected to tell him, but the words had slipped out on their own after having no one to talk about it with, and she had to admit to herself that there was some sense of relief. A weight lifted off her chest now that she had someone to share the burden.
"Pfffffft." Waving his words of general dislikeability off with a scoffing so loud and long that it was wonder she didn't pull something. "Please, you don't want people to like you, there's a difference." With a knowing sidelong look at her big brother, she settled in the seat, her to-go cup of coffee in both hands to warm their perpetual chill.
Surprised with the news that he and his girlfriend had broke up, her brows shot up high, though her general relief was carefully kept away from her expression. That girl was scary and she'd never thought that if the pair were a match at all, it was definitely a toxic one. Charlie avoided her at all costs, almost sure that if she got too close the girl would strike out at her. "Aw, are you okay about it, though?" She'd wanted to say 'That's too bad' or something along those lines, but really hadn't been able to bring herself to. If you don't have anything nice to say, it was better to say nothing, after all.
"I think they're dangerous," His head tilted thoughtfully to the side as he summed up his considerations of the newest members to their group. Roman's voice was soft in the quiet of their kitchen, aware of the two sleeping children in their home. It was a beautiful thing. "I don't know if it's just the kind of dangerous that it takes to survive out there or if it's something more sinister. " One was a lot more understanding point of view. Roman could sympathize with survival. The fact that he was even open to considering the former these days was a testament to the hope Charlie stirred in him. There had to still be good people out there. The world they brought their children into had to be bigger than this.
He's happy to hold her against him. To take in her warmth and be reminded of all the good he had in his life. There's been so much death and horror and Roman has done his best to keep the worst of it away from her. But he does his best to never outright lie to Charlie. That's the one promise he's always made.
"Best happy place I've ever had." He agrees with her. It was probably the only healthy version of a happy place Roman had ever had. It was certainly the least self-destructive version of himself, and that felt like the equivalent. Roman leaned forward to hover into her ear while his hand slipped to squeeze her butt. "Second best happy place." The innuendo that his favorite was between her legs.
"Benefit of the doubt." The reminder was gentle and more playful than anything, her trust in his instincts explicit, and by now she was sure that he knew as much. "I think we should invite them for dinner one of these days. Maybe we can get to know them a little better and then you can really decide how you feel."
Giving a little playful squeal of surprised delight as his hand found it's grip on her derriere, her laughter subdued only so they wouldn't wake up the children. "Well... the kids are sleeping, and that means..."
Grinning up at him, she slid her hands down his arms so she could unwrap herself from them, lacing her fingers through his so she could lead him toward their bedroom.
"You can show me just how happy of a place it is."
int. the roses apartment #608 - day @pxtitxrosx
A knock came to the door of the Roses' apartment, Ashton making his own way in without waiting, knowing who he was looking for. "Heya Charlie, I heard you were sick," Ash smiled as he found her lying around in a bundle while she rested. He had only heard of the news first from Roman of Charlie falling ill, perhaps after that night with Ruth, he had been kinda giving each other space, not hearing from her first. He was drunk, but that didn't mean he wasn't fully conscious of the conversations had. That's for a separate day to worry about. The month had been hard on a lot of them, he's aware of it, sometimes they just had to take it day by day. And today he's here's for Charlie while Roman looked over the kids.
He sat down beside her a bag placed down as he began digging through the care bag of goodies, "I got some flowers from the rooftop for tea, some food, a new book.." he had begun placing things on the table before he paused to actually take good look at her, concern evidently spilling over, "you okay? Roman told me what happened, that must've been scary."
She was sick. Incredibly so. The furrowing of Val's brows as she'd checked her out was enough to confirm it despite the woman's best efforts to play it off. The tension in Roman's face when he'd come into the room after talking to her was obvious to her, despite the fog of fever that had her brain feel like it was floating.
"Ash?" Voice coarse and quiet as she rolled over in her bed, using great effort to push herself up to sitting just enough to be able to look at him. Eyes sluggishly following the bag as he set it down, she managed a smile as she pushed stringy hair off her clammy brow. "Flowers? That's so thoughtful." Giving a little nod meant to convince him though probably didn't do much that way considering she both looked and felt almost as high as her fever.
"I'll be back on my feet in no time." And she would, determination had gotten her through mono in four days, it could get her through this. "I was more worried about how bad it scared the kids."
