Her stomach twisted with foreboding, knowing now she should have kept her mouth shut. It was too late to take it back, and as much as backpedaling would help the situation Dolphi was no liar. The devil took so much from her already, she would never allow him to rob her sense of right and wrong. Not ever.
Her arms hug around herself tightly, beginning to shiver with the effort to stand strong, to hold back tears.
âI-Iâm not a good pet, w-w-why keep me at all? Iâm not worth the trouble, and I donât like it here. You-youââ
Her pupils shrink to frightened slits at the sight of his bloodied hands, then with him so suddenly standing over her she canât help going perfectly silent and still. No, no what if he hit her? âŚWhat if he touched her? This time of day was supposed to be a break from that, it wasnât fair, it wasnât fair. Just like that, her attempts to stay composed were crumbling like pillars of sand.
His next words draw a soft hiccup out of her, losing the battle to keep herself from tearing up. It really feels like sheâs done nothing but cry since she got here, it burns her eyes like hell and she draws her legs up to curl herself around in a vain attempt to comfort away the rising panic attack. When he flips the argument around on her she flinches all too tellingly, shaking like a leaf.
Dolphi wants to fight back, she wants so dearly to stand up for herself but itâs futile against the literal king of all things horrifying. And really, as much as all he was saying was wrong she hated that there was a grain of truth he was all too right about. It completely trips her up, the sudden pain is too real. Satanick was the one with something to admit yet Dolphi could feel her clear aim in this talk swiftly swallowed up by confusion. He wasnât wrong; she often felt so very very alone.
She tries to speak louder, but her voice only comes out soft and brittle.
ââŚW-wouldnât be lonely if-if I could see my Witch again. I know youâre lonely, âcause I am too but all your attention makes it all worse. Canât you look at how other people feel? Donât you care? People donât want to be fr-friends with somebody who-who-who wonât let them choose to be their friend!â
Her eyes squint shut, bracing for the repercussions. There were a few times already that she had directly rejected the otherâs company, but never so freely as now. Was this brave or stupid? When did one stop and the other begin?
âŚMaybe she was both. And maybe for once, that was fine. If being smart meant lying, than she wanted nothing to do with it.
Her shivers, her outright fear only seemed to encourage him; a smile forming on his face despite the terrible thoughts running through his mind. Bloodied hands latched on her to upper arm, grip tight enough to bruise as he stared down at her tear stained face, at her terror filled eyes. It made him happy. So much happier then her actual words did, he loved this sight. She made him so happy. That was why she was here, she made him happy, why couldnât she understand that either? That happiness, that joy he got from seeing her, being able to touch her, enjoy her company each and every night and day.
She was so selfish. Thinking only of herself, when he himself was fine, completely fine, and yet she wished to leave him. Leave his gracious home, leave him alone. She only talked of herself, wanting her witch, her sea, her friends. She was his friend, she was his. Thatâs what mattered. How could she take that away from him?
âYou will be a good pet, youâll learn, I can teach you. You already hate it, you havenât even tried to stay here. You miss your friends? Iâm your friend, youâll miss me if you could leave, you donât want to miss me. Iâm your friend, iâm here with you. Youâll be lonely without me, so I canât let you go.â
He pushed her shoulder against the wall roughly, keeping her arm in that iron grip, blood dripping down as his claws dug in. His other hand went to pull at her curled up leg, not being careful where it was being put, where it was touching and feeling; how far up it was sitting. Why should he? She was his, entirely. Its what she agreed to when she stays here, and now that she was trying to back out of their deal didnât change that. She would love him, he was sure of it. She just needed some time, some persuasion. She would learn, most did. Pets had to be taught, that was all.Â
He wanted her to come back out, wanted her to stop this hiding. She was the one who said terrible things to him, the one who did terrible things to him. She didnât deserve to hide after what she said to him, that insult to his very being. There was nothing wrong with him, and this is the only way she would be able to learn that. He wanted to taste her, the sight of her terror alone wasnât enough for her to learn. Wasnât enough for him.Â
âYouâre the one whoâs selfish. You talk about your witch so much~ You love her. After all I did for you, you wonât talk about me? Wonât miss me? Youâre lonely, youâre so so lonely. Youâll miss me, you need to stay here so you wonât. You need to stay here so you wonât be lonely.â
Ah he was beginning to get through to her, of course he was. She knew he was right. She knew that he knew all the right answers, knew what was only best for her. Just another reason why she needed to stay. Who knows what sort of things that witch was telling her, what kind of things such a delicate and weak creature would get up to out there? He would protect her, and she would be his. That was only fair. He protected so much, surely she would want to become one of them as well.
âI have many many friends, including you. They donât want to leave me, only you do. Why are you being stubborn? Why aren't you like them, donât you want to be like them? A good pet, a good friend? Youâre not being very good right now.â
Nothing she said was right. None of it. He wasnât weak like her, he wasnât pathetic like her. He wasnât crying like her, wasnât curled up like her, wasnât afraid. He was strong and she was weak. He was right, he would keep her right, and she would keep wrong. That was the way of this world.Â
What a insult to be compared to her.Â
