Yet they defied the heaven,

And willfully carved their own paths.

Zhang Hailou & Zhang Haixia was never meant to be together.

A friendship between a predator and a prey defied the natural order of the world.

Yet the bird willingly let the snake coiled around it's body. And the snake never had any thought to consume the bird, obeying any of the bird's wants and need.

"I'm called Zhang Haixiá, xiá as in 'hero' (xiákè). He's called Zhang Hailóu, lóu as in 'tower' (lóuyǔ).

I listen all night to the spring drizzle from my small tower; of the heroes of Xianyang [the capital Chang'an], most are young."

The poetry line that Zhang Haixia recited are from two separate poems, yet he won't allow such simple thing as propriety to stop him from intertwining their names.

This poem speaks volumes of how much these two souls are destined for different things, but neither are afraid of defying the heaven's order.

Why did you have to go to Balangzhou

We were fated to be separated, yet I could not bare to be separated from you.

If you had to go through the seas and mountain, let me be with you. I will keep you safe, and I know you will do the same.

The heaven could not separate us, nor will death do.

You will live when you desperately want to die.

and to xiazai, home is where haiyan is.

because he never wanted to go back to xiacheng in the first place.
