|| Get to know RAPUNZEL CASTELL whoâs TWENTY-ONE years old and a JUNIOR in college majoring in ART HISTORY. She is from CORONA and is often times mistaken for KATHRYN NEWTON while others say she reminds them of RAPUNZEL from TANGLED. ||
HEADCANONS
rapunzel was a prisoner for the first eighteen years of her life. she didnât know it and she is still coming to terms with it. her âmotherâ madame gothel told her that the world was dangerous and that going out beyond their little cottage would only get her hurt and rapunzel believed her because she was her mother and she claimed to love her. she wove the most terrifying stories and with the magic she possessed....it only made sense.
rapunzel tried to keep busy as the years flew by. Â she was doing chores, painting, learning how to play chess, and other silly little hobbies that she should not have had time to do. gothel wasnât the best teacher when it came to her studies, so she had to learn what she could from the few non fiction books in the cottage. but even then she still was so unaware to what really went on outside of the woods. the closest she ever got was when pascal entered her life into that clearing.
having pascal was the best thing that could have happened to her. meeting him was fate and when he would sneak off to see her, rapunzel had a smile on her face that stayed there for the rest of the week. she didnât want to say she was a little desperate for the days she would get with him, but she sort of was.
the only event she ever had to look forward to was her birthday. each day on her birthday floating lanterns flooded the sky. rapunzel thought they were the most beautiful thing she had ever seen and would paint them frequently along the walls of the cottage. her birthday also happened to be the day her life changed forever.
when flynn crashed into her life, rapunzel was skeptical. she was scared, but she intrigued, and her curiosity overpowered her fear. finally she had someone who could show her the lanterns without her getting eaten alive by something. he clearly knew what he was doing and she trusted him right from the start to get her where she needed to go and nothing more.
the more she spoke to flynn, the more it became clear that something wasnât right. pieces were coming together, but the bigger picture was still so unsure. it wasnât until flynn had gotten hurt while they tried to get out of a dangerous situation on their trip that the truth started to reveal itself. Â rapunzel had healed him without question and then the questions about her life came pouring out. she learned the origin of the lanterns and the lost princess and the more she learned about her, the most they both wondered if she was indeed this lost princess. for so long rapunzel was told she was special because of her magic and that if she didnât have it, she would be nothing, but this....was beyond anything she could understand.
she confronted gothel about it because it was something too big to ignore. she was surprised by how easily the truth slipped out and in retaliation for leaving and discovering her truth, gothel tried to kill flynn. rapunzel was lucky she was able to get to him in time to keep him alive from the stab wound he had inflicted at gothelâs hand, and just when she was about to be taken away forever yet again, guards flooded the cottage and gothel was arrested. they were there for flynn originally, but when they saw who they were dealing with, they went for the bigger picture. thanks to flynn, rapunzel was reunited with her family. and life was never the same since.
adjusting to palace life was hard. her father had people watching her almost every second and she felt like she was suffocating. but at the same time she was finally allowed to go out and see corona. she was unlearning everything gothel had taught her, but still tried her best to be cautious. no one but flynn, cassandra, pascal, and her parents knew about her magic and she intended to keep it that way. she is unaware that more people know about it than she wants, but they haven't heard it from her lips.
the fact that she is even able to keep secrets shocks her since she tries to be as open and over share as much as possible. she is nurturing and never wants anyone to feel like they couldn't go to her for something.
as naĂŻve as she is, rapunzel knows that she is a lot more aware than people give her credit for. she feels like even when she is learning more about princess life she is being coddled, and she just wants to take life on full-force and learn about....well everything. she is happy to be in college, majoring in art history of course, and she is grateful she is able to explore more parts of corona than she ever thought she could.
but she is still very haunted by her past. she has trouble sleeping sometimes, and to deal with that she works on a journal her mother gave her. she paints in it more than she writes in it, but it helps her gather her thoughts together. she finds it better than falling asleep, having constant nightmares about gothel breaking out of prison, and waking up on the balcony from her sleep walking.
now that rapunzel roams a little freer, she is trying to meet as many people as possible. with the island being home to so many outsiders over the last few years, she really enjoys hearing their stories. it goes beyond wanting to learn about her people; she wants friends, she wants to feel like the entire island is her family.
the pressure of being a princess takes its toll on her every now and then. she often wonders if this is something she can actually do. she reads up on corona law and its history a lot in her free time, but when it comes to making everyone happy....she cannot stand letting a single person down. so if she makes a mistake in judgement it hits her hard.
as much as she knows the people in her life love her, it's hard sometimes to grasp. she thought gothel loved her, and she hoped she loved her, but that wasn't the case. she has to take it slow with people even though her instinct is to jump right into it (which she tends to do anyways).
one of her favorite activities is star gazing. she taught herself astronomy, and she used to talk to the stars when she lived with gothel. in a way, some of the constellations were best friends to her.
she does NOT like shoes, and is barefoot most of the time. she knows it isnât something people think is smart of her, but she likes to take in the world in every way she can. she feels trapped when she is wearing shoes and the most she will ever do is sandals.
when it comes to technology, she has no idea what she is doing. she is trying her best to learn how to use her phone that her father insists she carries, but most of the time it is turned off because she rather not have it making noises at her and she has yet to grasp the concept of muting notifications.
she is learning self-defense. all she really knows now is how to use a frying pan as a weapon, but she wants to learn basic self defense just in case something happens. cassandra is the person she wants to teach her, but every time she goes to her she is a little weary. rapunzel has yet to give up yet.
corona and its people come first to her. no matter what is going on with her, no matter how hard the situation might be, she will always put this island first. sometimes she thinks about the world beyond corona, but she knows that when she is time to leave, itâll happen. for now she just wants to feel the wind in her hair as she explores every nook and cranny on the island.
she is fascinated by the magic on the island and wants to learn more about her own magic. she isnât really sure who to talk to about it, but she has been doing her own research. it seemed that more and more people were gaining magical abilities and while a lot of them apparently didnt feel the need to hide them, rapunzel still thinks it is best if she hides her own.
she likes to keep her hair in a messy braid. it has gotten fairly long over the years but she still has yet to cut it. she doesnât mind the braid for now, and even though it is messy, people like to tease her for having the cleanest hair on the island somehow.
her birthday is May 12th (taurus)
she really doesn't go into the woods much anymore unless she is really really stressed and needs to escape. sometimes she visits the cottage she was raised at and climbs into her old bed and draws. it's the one secret she keeps to herself. she knows it wasn't her real home, but at the same time it was. her entire childhood was there and sometimes it's hard to let go of that.
she doesnât have any official pets but she does quietly adopt every stray animal that crosses her path. they don't know it, but she does and that's all that matters.
sometimes she wants to confront gothel about it all, but she knows she would never be allowed to visit her. and she isn't sure if she will ever be ready to see her face in the flesh again.
