Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is an incredibly hilarious show. It's also some pretty fun pulp sci-fi, a lot of references to the classics, hokey and highbrow alike.
The Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command fandoms are so dead here. I wish they weren't. I know that there are some fans scattered around here and there but overall no one really acts like a community. I've been in small fandoms here on tumblr where the people in the fandom are eachother's friends and everyone makes content for eachother to appreciate, and they discuss topics together, reblog stuff, write long essays, get 20 interactions but whatever, those 20 interactions were from the 20 present fans! (Cedric The Sorcerer fandom I'm talking about you!) and it was great. But despite having some people here on tumblr who like Blosc and Toy Story they don't interact like that, and I feel weird. I needed to talk about this because *sigh* I've been posting so many blosc and toy story stuff, not getting any interactions, and even following the tags, I don't get any new posts from other people either, like it's dead. But it's not dead, blosc fans are always active here. Just feels... lonely :/ It's so easy to make friends and yap together about hyperfocuses in other fandoms but in the blosc/toy story fandom it's so hard, like there is no one to talk with in here, but there is.
We need to fix this problem!! Like less, reblog more. Talk more, comment more. Say what we think about stuff. Make long essay posts about random subjects in the movies/cartoon. Just be more sociable. It's getting insufferable.

I get the feeling this comparison has been made already, but this is all I can think about whenever I watch Zurg-centered episodes.
Too lazy to make another “same picture” meme, but I wanted to point this out as well. 😅

I don’t wanna give it all away in case I actually commit to the Tiny Toons podcast idea I’ve finally decided to try and rewatch some episodes proper, and I genuinely have to say. Plucky being in an episode is not a guarantor that it will be good, but a full episode without him suffers greatly. But I guess I’m also watching it randomly through….certain means since I am tired of waiting around for Tubi. So I’m landing in that middle slog of episodes Tom Ruegger and Spielberg intentionally buried even though they were produced early because they were so-so.
‘Brave Tales of Real Rabbits’ starts out pretty fun but I can’t help but think of a certain beloved Chuck Jones short about a certain duck and pig playing Holmes and Watson. And how you could easily slot the Tiny versions of the duck and the pig into this and it would be the same. Tress and Charlie give it their best shot though and I like the latter’s stuffy English gentleman voice.
Elmyra as the Queen of England is a cute idea. This is a great little drawing of her. Freelance Animation is quite odd but you can tell they were trying their best. Eddie Fitzgerald’s influence as the writer/storyboard artist for this episode shines through.
But the next short-the only wholly positive thing I can say is I like Babs’ jester outfit. It’s really cute. But there’s this Woody Allen dragon and they play this Manhattan-style riff every time he’s on screen and uuuughhhhhff. Like we get it. Just a reference for the sake of it. This is the stuff that they go overboard with in Animaniacs that I hate. KNIGHTY KNIGHT Bugs this ain’t. This isn’t even KNIGHTS MUST FALL. AND NO PLUCKY!!!!
Then the next episode is an all Sweetie and you know. I’ve just never liked her. I can remember trying to watch this when it aired on the Hub and bailing even as a ten year old.
No one talks about how Vincent Price guest stars and reads the Raven because…..well, it isn’t very good. Sweetie butting in is grating and it’s a little sad they wasted such a big get on an episode centered around a D-tier character.
THEN THE NEXT EPISODE IS THE ONE WITH PLUCK TWACY and sweet sassy molassy. Man. Like it recreates THE GREAT PIGGYBANK ROBBERY almost line for line at points and other times it’s just meandering? And odd? And Eddie Fitzgerald wanted to shoehorn in Clampett characters like Sloppy Moe and Kennedy Cartoons is flailing and out of their element and man. Finally I get my Plucky fix and it’s one of the worst cartoons from the whole show. It’s like watching a Bugs and Friends block on MeTV Toons and the only Daffy being a Depatie-Freleng with him and Speedy.
I don’t just want to snark on one of my favorite shows but I mean, it’s no secret it’s a mixed bag. But I will say that there is a level of ambition and artistry, even when the cartoon itself doesn’t look the best, that isn’t apparent in Animaniacs. Like any sort of absurdism or subtlety in a non-mice cartoon isn’t allowed. I think everyone had something to prove on Tiny Toons and by Animaniacs they were more high off their own supply
I’ve tried working my way through season 1 on and off throughout the years, but the only episodes/segments that stuck with me were “Hollywood Plucky”, “ACME-TV”, and the They Might Be Giants segments (Istanbul and Particle Man) from “Tiny Toons Music Television”. The quality of the series definitely picks up during seasons 2-3 and the summer vacation movie. Season 3 especially feels like the writers are confident by that point and ready to start on Animaniacs.

So far in my Buzz Lightyear tv series binge watch, this is my favorite visual moment from the show (from the episode Lost in Time). It reminds me of the TMS-animated segments from Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures. 😂

People who think Ariel only wanted to be human so she could get with Eric
Fun fact: She sang “Part of That World” before she had so much as seen Eric. Eric was just the icing on the cake.
Oh he iced her cake alright
Ocean Dub DBZ
I’ve been collecting DVDs of the Ocean Dub throughout the past couple of years whenever I could find them, but as of today, I now have all 53 episodes of the Saiyan and Namek sagas for that dub. Good timing considering this year marks the 30th anniversary of DBZ’s initial English dub.
Dragon Ball Z is one of my favorite shows, and the Ocean dub was my introduction to the series. My earliest memory of the show was watching Saiyan Saga reruns on FOX (along with reruns of Sailor Moon) sometime around 1998 (depending on where you lived, DBZ’s syndication run was either on FOX, The WB, or UPN). I loved it almost immediately, and my enjoyment of it grew once I started seeing it on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block shortly after. As most older fans probably know already, those 53 episodes were originally 67 episodes of the original Japanese series, but were cut down primarily due to censorship. When Funimation got the rights to the series, they collaborated with Saban Entertainment to distribute the series in syndication, but Saban had very strict guidelines when it came to the show’s content. References to death were mostly replaced with “another dimension”, blood was digitally erased, and shots of characters getting hit would be cut out or replaced with crudely drawn stars. You could find more info about these edits on the defunct DBZ Uncensored website, which documented most of the changes made for that dub (along with a few once Funi started dubbing in-house). Funimation eventually redubbed and released those original 67 episodes uncut, but I will always have a soft spot for this dub despite how corny and butchered it was. The Rock the Dragon intro would get me pumped whenever it came on.
BONUS: A few years ago, I also found the 1995 BLT English dub of OG Dragon Ball (which also includes Curse of the Blood Rubies as a bonus feature).
This particular dub only got through the first 13 episodes before being cancelled due to low ratings. Because of this, Funimation decided to skip ahead to dubbing DBZ in 1996 (Funimation went back to dub OG Dragon Ball for Toonami in 2001 with their in-house cast and less censorship restrictions compared to when they were in syndication).
The early English dubs for DBZ (both the Ocean and in-house dubs) had some of the wildest out-of-context dialogue. 💀
it really truly is insane the way in the end vegeta just got completely absorbed into the z-fighters catalogue like im sure by the time dbs rolls around gohan has mentally blocked out like 90% of the extremely traumatizing things that happened to him on namek but on the occasion something comes up that forces him to remember do you think he tries very very very hard not to think about all the absolutely horrific shit vegeta did before they ever even met him
im gonna be ill my gohan hes like five years old here and he knows they dont really have time to spare but he buried all of these people he never even knew thats so crazy fucked up he was literally five years old
Gohan's trauma should be a case study!

Very nice detail for Oda to not show Ace's eyes while leading Sabo's letter until he's shown to be bawling, especially since he's spent this whole flashback chastising Luffy for being a crybaby
After the flashback ends, Shanks will have a whole monologue telling Luffy it's okay for him to cry, which is the closest thing to Oda himself telling his audience it's okay to fully feel their big emotions. That's an important message for the target audience of young boys, and doesn't make the powerful, important characters of the series any less powerful or important.
