Catch The Crook, Clear Our Names & Wrap This Up By Supper “In Toons We Trust” (1993)
Whenever I hear Torque speak, it takes me back to that era of late 90s/early 2000s kids shows where whenever Brad Garrett popped up, he’d give most of his characters a “dudebro” voice and would end most of their sentences with “sweetheart” or “baby”. 😂

I don't know how niche this is or even if there's a niche at all but can we talk about Buzz lightyear of star command? Can we talk about it please? This movie was so ingrained in my childhood and I've never seen any discussion about it online
Just found out there's actually a show too and it's not just the movie, I will be Buzz posting when I finish it
KRONK WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SPACE MARINES
honestly xr is like the funniest character in the show aside from buzz and zurg like if i showed you a pic of him. would you even believe me if i tell you that hes the most adult oriented character in the team. bro is doing crimes while being a space cop, reading straight up victoria's secrets magazine on a DISNEY CHANNEL SHOW
I got to thinking about how Zurg is involved in the first few eps of the show (The Torque Armada, XL, Gravitina, Little Secrets) but weirdly not in a direct way, instead getting other people to do his dirty work (for example, nabbing a random biker thug lol), and I have a theory about why.
Obviously, out of universe the reason is that the show is establishing its rogues gallery, but I think you can make sense of it in universe too.
Basically, Zurg is still recovering from the events of TAB. That seems to have been his biggest scheme to date, he probably threw a lot of resources into it, he attacked what was presumably an important Galactic Alliance planet to steal the Uni-mind which almost forced a full-scale confrontation with Star Command (something I get the feeling both sides are wary of since they're pretty evenly matched), and he might still face retaliation from them for that and for everything else he did, plus his number one agent has been arrested, his tower is a wreck, and Star Command even occupied Planet Z briefly after he escaped in the Dreadnought (presumably he drove them off again, but who knows what kind of damage they did while they were there).
So while he's building his power base back up, he messes around with smaller-scale schemes that are very low risk for him because he's not directly involved, and that also don't require tons of resources. NOS-4-A2 was probably him testing the waters once his forces had recovered with something a bit more intense while still not being entirely hands-on in case it went south, and then Planet Destroyer is when he actually gets 100% back in the swing of things. From then on, most of his schemes are much larger in scale and he's usually actively involved (for example, Lost in Time, Rookie of the Year, Stress Test, Super Nova, The Lightyear Factor, Star Smasher, etc. which all have him striking directly at the Galactic Alliance in a very visible way).
There isn't really any kind of repeat of the first few eps where he's just roping in other people to do all the work, so imo it makes a lot of sense if that was just an interim measure while his empire recovered.
Currently 6 episodes into the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command tv series, and I am frustrated with myself for missing out on this show as a kid (mostly due to time slot reasons from when it initially aired on ABC/UPN and the later reruns on Toon Disney). I had the direct-to-video pilot movie on VHS growing up and loved it. This show really made me realize how much I enjoy the Disney shows produced by Tad Stones (he was also one of the producers for the Aladdin and Hercules tv shows, which are among my top 5 favorite Disney shows, which I think I need to revise/update soon). The comedic writing on this show is so good.

I really can and will blame the 9-5 for everything. "We're in a loneliness epidemic" well, we have to spend a third of our day interacting with people in a professional way that makes forming real friendships difficult and then we're peopled out by the time we're done. "People are eating more and more unhealthily" people have to spend more than a third of their day doing work related tasks and they don't want to spend their tiny amount of free time making food. "People aren't involved in their local communities" after spending more than a third of their day doing work related things people are tired and also all those community events take place during normal working hours. "People need to get more hobbies" after spending more than a third of their day working, people are TIRED and don't want to do anything that takes yet more energy. "Literacy is dying" to maintain your critical thinking skills you need to read/watch things that make you think and after spending more than a third of your day doing work related stuff you are TIRED and don't want to expend even more brainnpower. "People need to get outside more" People. Are. TIRED. Because they have to spend all of their time working or preparing for work or recovering from work or doing all the chores they couldn't stay on top of because of work. I can blame fucking anything on having to work, it is truly the root of all fucking evil.
Are G ratings even still a thing? (I’m guessing it’s not since the upcoming Paw Patrol movie has a PG rating.) 🤨
Wicked is so different in tone from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Prince of Egypt, despite all having music and/or lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and despite all sharing some of the same heavy themes. Yet as I've read a little about the history of Wicked, I've realized that without The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Prince of Egypt, Wicked would never have been adapted as the musical we know today.
Part of how Stephen Schwartz became acquainted with the novel of Wicked and came to see its potential as a musical was that in 1996, he was working on The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Demi Moore voicing Esmeralda, and at the time she was in talks to star as Elphaba in a film version of Gregory Maguire's then-new novel. That movie was never made, but the inspiration stayed with Schwartz.
Schwartz has also said that a main inspiration for the choice to focus on Elphaba and Glinda's friendship was The Prince of Egypt, which was released just around the same time that Schwartz and Winnie Holzman started work on Wicked in earnest. The way The Prince of Egypt gives the epic story of the Exodus a human heart by focusing on Moses's relationship with his adoptive brother Rameses, showing the tragedy of two people who love each other but end up on opposite sides of a conflict where the fate of a nation is at stake, was what Schwartz and Holzman realized could also make Wicked work onstage.
If not for those dark and epic animated musicals of the '90s, the musical of Wicked as we know it wouldn't exist.
Even this movie wasn’t safe from the “cheeky” humor that DreamWorks became well-known for.
Concept: A female Chicken Boo who impersonates Lauren Bacall as Lauren Buc-CAW! It would be a film noir of course.
I haven't worked out the modified theme song though, turns out the rhythm of the lyrics is gender-specific.
