“N…No… That’s not true…” She stepped towards him, “I just… Had to go through my past once more…” She holds out her hand, suddenly a golden teddy bear appears on her hand, “….I tried…. To protect… Someone…”

He gave her a hopeful smile as she came closer, feeling genuinely better at hearing that he hadn’t, at least in her eyes. He looked at the bear that suddenly appeared, tilting his ear with curiosity.

Then his eyes widened, closing his eyes and rubbing his forehead with a groan. “Oh-OH GEEZE-Gwah! Lots of flashing-lots-lo-lot’s-” he shook his head, giving her a perplexed look. The one with blue eyes spoke instead though.

“Um, forgive me if this requires a more complicated answer than I’m guessing, but- why did all the others from Freddy’s look like they were more like legitimate monsters than simply the machines those children were making move about to their will?” They winced, visibly giving a single shiver. “Sorry- just, quite a lot of screaming and lunging coming across right now. Not- Not pleasant.”

The 2 then blinked, before speaking at the same time, sounding like Bill normally would’ve. “Wait, who were you trying to protect?”

Mari’s eyes widen before she stepped back, “N..Noo… N..Noo…” She covered her ears, “S…Scary….”

Green-eyes looked extremely concerned, getting her attention quickly and making sure she could hear him, though he didn’t mover her hands away. “Nononononono- Mari, Mari it’s okay now! I swear- that horrible, horrible thing is GONE-”

“It’s yet another reason why we didn’t come by, besides not being able to locate you ANYWHERE- after we thought it was gone, turned out a part of it was still around and trying to destroy us from the inside slowly. Almost unnoticeably with everything going on.” Blue-eyes shook his head, grimacing at the memory. “It’s long gone by now- we’re free of it forever now- and don’t worry, its getting to suffer for everything it used us to do…”

“Including hurting you.” The once brightly-multi-hued Bill was a dark, solid navy blue, looking incredibly sorry and guilty. “Mari, I am so SORRY you had to go through that… I’m grateful that thing didn’t do worse- believe me, it could have, had I not made that deal… But it’s no excuse.”

He looked like he was going to cry, and his eyes actually watered this time, unlike prior occasions. “It’s all my fault… I couldn’t break through after that last time- I tried to tell you but I was too weak by that point… I made a deal with it to make sure he didn’t burn away everything and leave you with mere ashes. So that he didn't trap you in a dark room with your killer, no way to stop him from killing you forever. All these things it wanted to do to you, to make you suffer-that I tried to prevent- But… like usual… I failed…”

“O..Oh?” Her cheeks were a little red, but smiled, “W..Who’s h..he…?” She quietly spoke.

“He’s- well, hold on a minute please!” He gently placed her down, then shouted over to the doppelganger, “OI! BILL! GET OVER HERE ALREADY, YOU NEED TO SAY HI!”

The other Bill rolled his eyes, but was smiling was well. They snapped their fingers, and was by the first one’s side. They gave a courteous bow to her, looking amused. “Hello there, Miss Mari! Quite a pleasure to finally get to meet you myself- though I wish for better reasons than what’s brought me back around again, I’ll admit.”

“He’s me-! Well, obviously- But remember the last time we saw each other? When I was-” The both of them shivered before the other one continued, very blue eyes regretful.

“When we were possessed?”

She lets out a small gasp, hugging the other back tightly, “yeah i am!” smiling brightly in the embrace, “I missed you!”

“I missed you more than you can imagine!” He was simply buzzing with such a huge flood of positive emotions, he gave her a grateful smooch on the forehead when-

“Come on now, you’re gonna weird her out, you dumb triangle!”

He  floated in place, slowly spinning in the air to spot another him that stood where he’d been right before he’d nyoomed over to Mari. His face went pink in embarrassment, and he gave the one he held an apologetic grin. “Eh heh- he’s right. Sorry- I just got so caught up in the moment-”

His energetically cheery mood was back in a blink though. “And hey! Bet you don't know the Thing yet- I never got to telling you! Now’s the perfect chance for you 2 to meet!”

“….Bill…? Is that you…?” She stood up, holding a bouquet of roses, “….It’s nice too see you again….” She smiled softly.

Her voice.

Her SMILE.

He didn’t think he’d ever get to hear or see either of those again, and the fact that she seemed happy to see him made something inside yank and twist at the guilt of not deserving it. But even stronger was the fact that she was real and the fact that he could touch her.

Mari soon found herself being hugged tightly and spun around a few inches off the ground, Bill’s outfit a blending array of many different colors, though the most distinct was something of a mix between an indigo-violet and magenta.

He sounded like- no was crying, though there was a smile on his face, bigger than she’d ever seen… And for some reason his eyes were a brilliant green color. “You’re okay!”

He was just looking around the Mindscape at dreams, making sure no one was screwing up too badly or trying to leech off of other people for a life source. That pathetic excuse for a monster with the mask that had some weird attraction to targeting children had been nuisance enough for the year.

That’s when he got a chill that made him stop in his tracks. Looking around, he spotted it. It looked like it was just a field of flowers… But the more he looked at it, the stronger the feeling he got to check it out. Hoping this wasn’t a trick of some kind (the Multiverse’s Authors had been doing that sort of thing QUITE A LOT LATELY) he went in-

And then he saw her.

HER.

Everything was upside-down and spinning and he couldn’t move for the life of him, just frozen in place and probably looking at least half as stunned as he felt. It was her- really HER-

She still existed after all…
