hey i just saw your tutorial on making lockscreens and it was very helpful however, i do have a question. when i try to make lockscreens from photos, they come out very pixelated and blurry. aside from only using very large photos, is there any other way to fix the quality of these photos? sometimes i see a photo that i'd really like to use but i can't find the photo big enough. thank you for your help! :)
I mostly sharpen them sometimes! Another way I sometimes do it, is by adjusting the frame size (I normally use 575x1024 but that can be too big) I believe you can reduce it to 423x750 for them to still look good. You just have to find photos that are bigger or about that size (423x750) for it to look good, or use your photoshop tools such as sharpening to increase the quality! I prefer using big images with high quality so the lockscreens will look great either way! I hope this was a bit of a help, if not let me know and I’ll try to find something else :)

Many of you asked how I create my lockscreens, so I made a tutorial on this kind of graphic, I hope it helps you in any way and maybe inspires you to try and create your own! Warning: my photoshop is Dutch because I am. I translated the functions, you’ll need to use, in English so it’s understandable for everyone. It’s easier if you already know the basics of photoshop but if not: I tried my best to explain everything as well as I could. This is only one way to do it, this is how I do it, other people might do it differently.
What you need (+links of the sources I used):
images / any photoshop / psds
Let’s get started!
Step 1:
open photoshop
make sure your settings are on photography
zoomed in:
Step 2:
go to the top left corner and open a new file
create a new file according to the size of the device you’ll be making the lockscreen for. I used the size I’d normally use for iPhone 6(s), for other sizes ask here!
the iPhone 6(s) size I use is: 575 pixels by 1024 pixels
make sure that in the red square pixels are selected
click OK
there must appear a white field/surface like this
Step 3:
find an image you’d like to use for your lockscreen, I used this image of Rihanna, feel free to use it to practice or use another one of your choice
save or copy the image
If you copy:
hit CTRL+V on the blanc surface and the image will appear
If you save/open
go to file again (first printscreen) > open > select your image from the place you saved it
drag the photo from the top
drag the photo to the white field
Step 4:
the image is in this case too big and doesn’t look good. Hit CTRL + T to resize and move the image
Zoom in to the top
make sure the little paper clip thingy is selected so the image changes equally
change the size by either typing in a different percentage or hold your mouse on the edge of the image and drag it to the size you like, move it by clicking on the image, hold it, and drag it down.
hit ENTER when you’re happy with the resize
Step 5:
you’re actually almost done! this is what I call the ‘decoration’ phase
add effects of your choice: topaz clean or actions
add a psd (download a psd file and open it the same way as you do with a photo, the psd contains a little map and just like an image: drag it to the field you’re working on) of your choice or play around with the effects on this little panel
to save your creation go to file > save as > and choose .PNG
I added 2 of my favorite self-made psds and made the photo a little brighter, this is how it turned out! the lockscreen is up for screenshot/saving here!
I hope this helped you! Message me here if you have any questions!
