i think the doctor (who) has a very “atheist in a dnd setting” view toward the great man theory of history. like he’s keenly, regularly, intimately aware that there’s a mechanic in the physics of the universe by which the actions of some certain influential people form the hinges on which history turns, HOWEVER this is repugnant to his fundamental values, so despite everything he maintains that the great man theory is a load of horseshit
the doctor calculates that napoleon’s return from elba is a fixed point and says “that doesn’t mean anything!! it isn’t necessarily ABOUT him!!!” out loud in case any historians are listening
the doctor, stomping around the control room afterwards: he didn’t make them come to him. the greatest general in the world, WHICH HE’S NOT, couldn’t do that just by saying so. they were following a dream, a collective dream that france had been dreaming for years, and it just so happened to have his face. he’s a boat in a storm. he didn’t tell the wave to lift him up
tardis: beep boop
the doctor: you’re right, it WAS fun hanging out with marthe and jean-baptiste :)

i do take offense at GREEKS tho. daud can be greek idgaf about him. i know they did literally base serkonos on the mediterranean esp spain but idgaf corvo is CLEARLYYYYYYY native. i know this to be true even tho it makes no sense. no im not projecting why do you say that
trying to explain why Dishonored is basically my favourite video game is like. Well. The voice acting is, primarily bad. The entire combat system revolves around killing, eating, starving, or befriending rats. There are only 10 lines of ambient dialogue and I love all of them. You can never see the protagonist or hear him in the first game, but he has big dick energy so inconceivably strong that it hardly matters. The game’s lore and themes are morally nuanced, but every single person you meet falls into one of four camps (“helpless civilian”, “guy who’s just following orders, “ontologically evil”, and “crippled with guilt and choking on regret). They went off *unbelievably* hard with the world building. The majority of it is hidden in gay poetry and the diary entries of the man who killed your wife. Attention is lovingly poured into the mundane and fantastical aspects of life, and each wound or injustice suffered is a serious part of the narrative that characters are expected to carry with them for the rest of their lives. The pinnacle of the game happens when two Greeks, asexual and bisexual respectively, have a time travelling sword fight on top of what is basically the crumbling ruins of the World Trade Center. best game I have ever played hands down.
