Gender Normativity: Problems Highlighted.
Languages are constantly evolving, time for the next stage of evolution - inclusivity!
But we need to understand the problems before we can address them. So, here are some ways in which English enforces gender normativity.
Spotlighting
When an adjective draws attention to a role, that challenges a gender stereotype, this is spotlighting.
Ex. Lady Doctor, Male teacher, Female professor, Female Mechanic, Male Housekeeper
Diminutivisation
This is when diminutive suffixes are added to titles or names.
Ex. author-authoress, master-mistress, poet-poetess
Differential Naming
It is a prevalent practice in which males are referred to by adult titles and females are denied adult recognition.
Ex. Mr. Snape, the men from Durmstrang and the girls from Beauxbatons have gathered at the pier.
Featurism
Featurism is when something like appearance is prioritized in women but not in men. This belittles and undermines women's contributions.
Ex. Every time the cast of a movie is interviewed emphasis is given to the actresses wardrobe.
It's okay if you accidentally use the wrong pronoun.
Pronouns can sometimes be tough to get around with.
Unlearning the "boy and girl" norm might be a difficult task for some, an easy task for others. if you accidentally use the wrong pronoun, apologize, learn from your mistake, and move on.
Here's to a conscious effort to use the right pronouns🥂
The importance of emotions is ultimately a subjective matter. In the end, you decide if you wish to act according to the emotions you're experiencing, or go against it. A child with a learning disability has the right to learn, grow, and carry out daily life things with other children in schools. However, they need some more support and time from teachers and parents. As time passes, they develop a healthier way to do regular school things, and with their extraordinary skills and ability, they can succeed in life as others do. People with learning disabilities can face issues with life mostly because of how our education system doesn't consider their special needs. They can learn—some are even gifted with talents, but it's a difficult life for them. With a good support structure and ensuring that their needs are met, anybody can be successful in life. Teaching children that their consent matters is an important part of their development as it lets them know that their opinions matter. It is our responsibility to start taking their consent seriously in order to contribute towards changing the society and making this world a better place to live in😊. Consent can mean different things for different people. When there is open communication and consent in a sexual relationship, the act gets better. Credits- Content- @in_love_with_the_feel_of_words, @sanjana.gif Creatives- @sanjana.gif https://www.instagram.com/p/COViXsBL5iZ/?igshid=jwd3hfoik4vn
Globalisation has caused a lot of developments in personal and professional communication, and there will be times when you might feel overwhelmed by it. A BDSM act, like fiction, is only a form of fantasy- an escape from reality. You might love it, detest it, or simply be willing to try it out.
