Notes from the Bloomsbury Flat
Saturday, February 28th 2015
The plan was to repeat the smooth awesomeness of Friday, but that is not what happened. Our plan was to meet up with Cassy, a London native who we'd met via supporter Summer Johnson, to get some insight on some cool things to do. We left the house and caught the wrong train twice, then walked about two miles only to be too late to meet up. We did discover a community of (Eastern) Indians. It was really cool, every store whether butcher shop or clothing store belonged and was operated by the areas Indian community. Just about everyone walking the street was also a member of the community. We stopped in a couple shops and continued to Shoreditch. We saw tons of large scale street art, a sports complex and a groovy commercial pop-up mall (yes a pop up mall) called Box Park(Â boxparkshoreditch ). Imagine containers like those you see on cargo ships and 18 wheelers, now paint them all smoke gray, stack them tightly and add a boutique sized store inside. It was the coolest thing I'd seen on Saturday for sure. All I could think about is how cool it would be to have that in New Orleans!! (hint hint).
Since we'd missed Cassy we headed towards Camden to gift shop for our donors and family, it was crazy busy there but it was a welcomed sight. We stopped in a few gift shops and then headed to our flat. After a shower and a change of clothes we headed out to Camden once again, this time our destination was Lock 17, a three story bar/club overlooking Camden Lock. The place was huge, on the middle floor was a DJ playing urban music spanning form about 2010 to now, the third floor which was open to the middle housed a few open sofa sections and bathrooms. But the real get down was happening downstairs. A dark room that extended about 40 yards filled with dancing people, where the DJ played Pop hits from the last two decades. It was really cool, we visited the different floors a few times and even had some locals buy us drinks when they realized we were from America. Then on our final trip to our flat we headed out to our bus stop.Â
We got home and drifted between naps and spurts of packing and cleaning, eventually leading to waiting for our ride to the airport. Of course security finally made Trenton empty his whole back pack due to all the small electronics inside. Â But all was well after a short inspection, we then headed to the terminal and fought off naps/sleeping so we wouldn't doze off and miss our flight. We finally boarded the plane after some confusion as to which terminal we were scheduled to leave from. This one was newer featuring an inseat usb hub, and a pop out remote that featured a game controller on back (there were free video games on the plane yo!!). We were both asleep soon after take off. about 9 hours later after narrowly avoided a diversion to Boston we landed in snowy NY, The Fish and Chips Tour was complete.Â
