11 July, 2016; 21st anniversary of Srebrenica genocide  

Thousands of people gathered in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina to mark the 21st anniversary of Europe’s worst atrocity since WWII, when more than 8 000 Bosniak men and boys were murdered in just a few days in UN protected safe area of Srebrenica. 

Flowers were laid and a funeral prayer was held for 127 victims who had been identified over the past year and whose remains were buried at the memorial site. Only 11 of the bodies that were buried today were complete skeleton remains. 12 of the victims were children and the youngest among them was 14 years old. More than a thousand people are still being searched for.

“Justice will be our revenge. The laughter of our children, who will come here and live here, will be our revenge,” were the words of Srebrenica mayor Ćamil Duraković.
