Help give aid for a life-threatened LGBTQ+ refugee in South Sudan:
I was directly asked to make this post; this post helps Comrade Abdul, a queer Ugandan-Kenyan-Sudanese refugee who fled to the Gorom Refugee Settlement camp seeking safety from genocide, only to be met with with life-threatening anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination notorious to the camp. The information in this post was shared with Comrade Abdul's consent.
How will you help Comrade Abdul?
I can't donate, but will share this to find people who can!
I'll share AND donate!
Fleeing from the LGBTQ+ genocide in Uganda, then Kenya, where queer and trans folks are disappeared and murdered on account of their LGBTQ+ status in both countries—indeed, in 66 countries in the region—Comrade Abdul found himself in the Gorom Refugee Settlement camp in South Sudan, a camp already flooded with non-Arabic refugees from the Sudanese genocide and Anuak refugees from the Ethiopian genocide, only to receive life-threatening anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination on account of his sexuality.
The Gorom Refugee settlement has a medical capacity of only 2,000 people, and yet has a current population exploding beyond 22,000: eleven times its medical capacity.
LGBTQ+ activist Yaga Puison reported to Washington Blade:
"[LGBTQ+ refugees] endure daily attacks, lack of police assistance, death threats, stoning, abuses, discrimination, bullying, denial of medical care, and the inability for their children to access education. Many are also deprived of proper shelter, leading to health risks such as pneumonia."
Comrade Abdul asked me to inform you that this camp is swept with HIV, malaria, and typhoid fever—life threatening diseases—and they desperately need aid for medical care. Even with this cramming of underfed, sick, and dying refugees, a parasitic landlord still demands $150/month just so they can stay.
Food, shelter, and medical care, much alike our comrades in Palestine and the Congo, are a human right turned luxury in Sudan. Despite these odds, Comrade Abdul has remained strong, taking nearly a dozen children under his protection and care as they navigate these dangerous circumstances.
Comrade Abdul and the people he cares for are starving, struggling to find clean water, and deprived of medical care, all while continuing to be sapped by capitalist pigs. While many of us are unable to provide direct material aid, you can still help in another way: economically.
Anything you have to spare should be spared for Comrade Abdul and his group. Rather than buying a $60-80 game from a company keeping Gary Bowser as an indentured servant, send it to Comrade Abdul to help them achieve safer conditions; at the very minimum, to help them stay in the camp, away from genocidal soldiers in all directions.
You can help them at this GoFundMe campaign, where at time of writing it's only 61% complete:
