Shane leaned over Ilyaโs shoulder and let out an approving noise. Apparently the giant fish was impressive. โWow, heโs huge.โ
โThanks, Shane. Best day of my dadโs life, that catch.โ Young tried to grab his phone from Ilya, who held it over his head. โAnd not gonna lie, Roz, โheโs hugeโ is exactly what I want women to think when they see my profile.โ
โThere are other pictures we can take for that!โ
Shane pulled Ilyaโs hand closer and peered at the screen. โDid you release him? Itโs a sturgeon, right? In most fishery management zones in Ontario you have to catch and release all sturgeons, all year.โ
Young looked stuck between a lie and a lecture so Ilya quickly handed him his phone back and shooed him out of the gym.
โOkay, enough now. First, landlord, now fishing cop. Soon people will think I married a narc.โ Ilya turned to eye him. โAnd why do you know so much about this, Hollander? Youโre not making me do fishing, yes? I wonโt. It is very gross, Shane. Very gross.โ
Shane sat on the bike next to Ilya, smiling. โYeah, I think itโs pretty gross too. But dadโs really intoโgod, has he really never shown you all his pictures and shit? How have you avoided that for so long? Anyway, I picked up a lot of stuff from him. He doesnโt say much but, growing up, like 90% of what he did say was about fucking fishing.โ
โOh well I would do fishing for him. I will call David now, maybe we go this weekend.โ
