âqu'est-ce que c'est?â âwhat is that?â shane asks softly, pointing at the tv screen.
âchatte.â sofiya says, head resting on shaneâs chest. she wiggles her arm out of her red spider-man blanket to point to the fluffy white cat on screen, âmaman chatte.â
âbon travail.â âwell done.â shane smiles, kisses the top of her head.
âĐżĐŸ-ŃŃŃŃĐșĐž,â âin russian,â ilya prompts, handing sofiya her sippy cup which she takes eargerly, âĐșаĐș ĐœĐ°Đ·ŃĐČаŃŃ ĐŒĐŸĐ»ĐŸĐŽŃŃ ĐșĐŸŃĐ”Đș?â âwhat are young cats called?â
sofiya blinks at him a few times, big hazel eyes starting to get sleepy. shane thinks sheâs probably satisfied now that she has her milk and wonât bother answering. prize acquired means no reason to keep playing the game. but he and ilya both wait and let her process anyways, if she does want to play it might take a minute to translate.
âĐșĐŸŃŃĐœĐŸĐș.â she declares before promptly shoving her sippy cup back in her mouth.
âĐŸŃĐ”ĐœŃ Ń ĐŸŃĐŸŃĐžĐč.â âvery good.â ilya grins, taking his place on the couch, one arm wrapping around shane and the other wrapping around sofiya from the front. âĐŒĐŸĐž ĐșĐŸŃŃŃа.â
shane leans his head back onto ilyaâs shoulder and whispers, âso which one of us is going to teach her english?â

"Lancer de Hollander, et il compte! Quel beau but!" (A shot by Hollander, and he scores! What a beautiful goal!)
"Let's go, Shane!" Yuna cheered at the TV as David laughed heartily, clapping his hands.
It was Ilya's first time watching Shane play with the Hollanders at their Ottawa home. He hadn't known what to expect when they invited him, but watching the Hollanders put a goofy smile on his face. It was so heartwarming to think that Shane's parents still got this excited watching him score, even though they must've seen it a million times by now.
"Wow, this is his best goal of the season yet," David said as the broadcast replayed the goal in slow-motion.
"Close, but not quite," Yuna stated. "It's not like that slap shot goal he had against Buffalo. The one all the way from center ice. Accuracy from that distance? Hard to beat that."
David hummed. "How about his breakaway goal last week against Toronto? I mean, speed and style points? That was a beaut!"
"Ah, sorry. But you are both wrong," Ilya said carefully. Both Hollanders turned to look at him, expressions expectant.
He shrugged. "You are forgetting Shane's overtime goal in New York back in February."
After a moment, David said, "Oh yeah!"
Yuna snapped her fingers. "When he deked and scoredâ"
"âYes, in front of old man Hunter," Ilya smirked.
That made David chuckle, his eyes crinkling just like Shane's when he laughed.
"Not bad, Rozanov." Yuna gave him a quick nod and a warm smile.
The game continued on. Shane was playing like a man possessed, like he knew they were watching.
"You know, Ilya, we watch your games too."
"Mm?" Ilya looked over, surprised. He wasn't sure what to say. "You do not have to."
"Oh, but we want to. You're a great player to watch," Yuna said matter-of-factly. "That goal you had against Vancouver late in the third? What a highlight."
"High wrap around, lacrosse style!" David nodded with a wide smile on his face. "Honestly, son, I was in awe."
So was Ilya in that moment. His own family never complimented him, so hearing this from the Hollanders made him feel a tightness in his chest.
"And you had a hat trick that game." Yuna beamed. "Impressive."
"Thank you," he said quietly. Ilya stared at the TV intently, careful to avoid eye contact.
"Still not as good as Shane, though," Yuna teased, her tone playful.
"Ah, no?" Ilya laughed. "I will have to keep trying then."
"Oh, we know you will."
That was one thing they could all agree on at least.
+ (A/N: The announcer dialogue at the start is in French because they are watching the Montreal broadcastâlike how the Habs' main media is all in French IRL.) + (more on AO3) + (tsym @astronautme for the beta)

"Wait, I thought Ilya was the mommy," Shane said, confused.
"He is. And so are you, Uncle Shane." Emma was pulling Shane by his hand towards the living room. Ruby was pulling him by the other.
"You're both mommies!" Ruby agreed.
"Ah, no. One of us has to be daddy," Ilya said matter-of-factly, following closely behind them.
Emma paused thoughtfully and asked, "Why? My friend from school has two mommies."
"Well, you seeâ"
"No! Ilya! It's fine!" Shane said quickly, glaring daggers at Ilya. "I'll be a mommy too."
They were babysitting Ruby and Emma while their parents were running errands. The twins were obsessed with playing Doctor lately. So, apparently, for the afternoon, both Shane and Ilya were playing pretend mommies-to-be.
"So Mrs. Rose-noff, your baby sounds healthy," Emma stated as she examined the bump on Ilya's stomachâa throw pillow he stuffed under his shirt earlierâwith her toy stethoscope while he laid on the couch. "And I think you're having a boy."
"Ah, am I?" Ilya smiled.
"You are! Congratulations!" Emma cheered, nodding. Then she took out a Polaroid from a pocket of her lab coat and handed it to Ilya. "Here's a sonogram."
It was a photo of a bear plush toy.
"So cute!" Ruby smiled as she clasped her hands. "What will you name the baby?"
"Mmm, well. It will have to be strong, Russian name." Ilya made a show of deciding. "So, I think I will name him Alexander Ovechkin Hollander-Rozanov."
Shane rolled his eyes.
"Alexander Ovesh-kin is uh, a unique name," Ruby offered.
"Thank you, Doctor Ruby. And thank you, Doctor Emma."
"You're very welcome!" Emma gave him a big grin before she shifted her attention to Shane. "Okay, Mrs. Hollander. It's your turn."
Ilya snorted, and Shane glared at him. They swapped places so Shane was lying on the couch.
Emma examined Shane's bump as she had with Ilya's. This time, it was a soccer ball Shane found around the house and tucked under his shirt.
"Oooo, Mrs. Hollander," Emma gushed. "I think you're having a girl!"
"Oooo," Ilya cooed.
"Exciting! What will you name her?" Ruby asked.
Shane mumbled something under his breath.
"Uh, Uncle Shane, can you say that louder? I couldn't hear you."
Shane sighed. "Um, I saidâŠ" He cleared his throat. "Her name will be Irianna."
He gave Ilya a soft look, eyes searching. "Irianna Hollander-Rozanov."
Ilya was taken aback, suddenly finding the need to blink back tears.
---
After they got home, Ilya cornered Shane in the living room.
"You already picked a name," Ilya said, raising his eyebrows.
Shane sighed. "Yeah, yeah, I know we said not while we're still playing. But I can't help it." His voice got quieter as he talked. "Sometimes, I think about the future. Like, what it would be like someday, you know?"
"Oh, I know."
Shane gave him a sheepish smile. "I'm sorry, I should'veâ"
"No, Shane. Do not be sorry." Ilya closed the distance between them, placing a hand on the side of Shane's face.
"I love that you think so far ahead," Ilya affirmed before giving Shane a soft kiss. "Irianna is very pretty name. I love it." He smiled. "I love you very much."
"I love you more," Shane replied, also smiling.
Ilya kissed him again, deeper this time as he felt Shane melt into the kiss.
"Well, since you already have name picked out," Ilya said when they parted. "Should we head to the bedroom and try for a baby?"
Shane giggled. "Ilya, do I have to explain biology to you?"
"Ah, I see how it is," Ilya sulked, jutting his bottom lip out, feeling utterly put out. "When Emma says we can get pregnant, it's cute. It's precious. But when I do it, I get science lecture."
Shane kissed his pout away. "Well, I guess there's no harm in trying."
âI don't want to watch this movie,â Ilya sulked.
Tonight was movie night at the cottage, which Ilya usually looked forward to, but todayâs pick made him reluctant.
âWhy? 'Cause Rose is in it?â Shane asked despite already knowing the answer.
âNo,â Ilya lied. âIs boring movie.â
âWell, you picked the movie last time,â Shane reminded him. âSo itâs my turn, and I say weâre watching X-Squad.â
Ilya crossed his arms. âIs more like I donât want to watch your Ex-Squad.â
âIlya, youâre not still jealous of Rose, are you?â Shane asked, in disbelief. âNeed I remind you that Iâm gay and happily married to you?â
âYeah, not so gay you can watch Rose Landry,â Ilya retorted.
Shane sighed. He held Ilyaâs hand in his and squeezed. âItâs been a long week, and I just want to watch a movie with my husband. Is that okay?â
Ilya was definitely the type to talk during a movie. Shane knew this, but he still gave him a look.
âWhat? It doesnât!â Ilya said defensively.
âIt just started,â Shane said, eyes narrowing.
âUgh.â Ilya slumped on the couch.
To his credit, he managed to stay quiet for a couple of scenes after that. But unfortunately, the silence didnât last long.
âWow, she is being kidnapped,â Ilya said flatly. âBoring. She is kidnapped in every movie.â
Shane kept quiet. He thought that by not engaging with him, Ilya would get discouraged. But he was sadly mistaken because Ilya just kept going.
âShe look like she regretsâwhat do you callâshape-shifting, yes?â
âIs more like plane movie. Like when you are stuck in-flight, and there is nothing to watch.â
âShane, why is she blue? Like the color of your dildâ?â
âIlya!â
Ilya talked throughout the whole movie, which made focusing on it impossible for Shane.
Shane sighed. Then he felt Ilya pull him in a bit closer. Ilyaâs arm was slung around Shaneâs shoulders, his fingers drawing mindless patterns against Shaneâs skin, and his chest radiating a familiar, soothing warmth against Shaneâs back. So Shane let more of his weight lean on Ilyaâs body and let his head rest firmly on his chest. A small smile grew on his face as he felt Ilya press a light kiss on top of his head.
âHa!â Shane heard and felt Ilyaâs low, breathy laugh against him during a funny moment he completely missed.
Iâll just have to rewatch it by myself another time, he thought as Ilya continued his running commentary. Then Shane realized he didnât even mind.
---
Honestly, Shane thought it was far from Rose's best work. But he didnât know how to tell Rose this, so he left their chat on read. He knew he couldnât avoid her for long, though, as he got a phone call from her a few days later.
âShane, sweetie. Be honest. What did you think?â
Shane winced. He hated lying, so he opted for a partial truth. âI liked it. I watched it twice!â he said defensively.
Luckily, Rose hummed, seeming pleased. âAnd what did Ilya think?â
Shane recalled that night with a smile. âOh, he seemed into it. He had a lot to say.â
TW/CW: i donât know if one is necessary but ilya is struggling with his depression and existential thoughts. NO sh or suicide mentioned, there is discussion of prescription medication but not drug abuse.
â
when ilya looks at his fingers he sees time slipping through them. he knows these years are precious. all everyone fucking tells him is that these years are precious and theyâll be gone soon. but knowing time is precious only sees to speed it up. like the harder he tries to hold on, the more heâs really letting go of.
he heard the door creak first then he heard her little socked footsteps. he felt her climb up onto the bed.
âpapa! papa wake up!â she had grabbed two fistfuls of the quilted comforter covering his back and she shook him, âstop playing papa, wake up!â
he had woken up, hours ago, and had been awake since. but he couldnât tell her that. his body was made out of bricks. but he couldnât tell her that. heâd dreamed about his mama again. but couldnât tell her that. he begged himself to roll over, to grab her and tickle her and pretend to bite her toes to make her laugh. he begged himself to do something! but he didnât. he stayed still. he thought of himself and he thought of his baby girl. he thought of that hollow look people have in their eyes when theyâre gone. bricks layered upon brick upon his body kept him stuck.
âsonya,â shaneâs voice was at the door, âwhat did i say? on days off we donât wake papa up.â
âbut daddy, itâs lunchtime!â
âi know what time it is, sunny. câmon,â ilya felt the mattress as shane leveraged his knee against it, scooping up their little girl and setting her down on the floor again, âgo see what i have for you in the kitchen.â
âdid you buy more spider-man popsicles?â
âi donât know, you tell me.â
something clattered and a stampede of footsteps fled the room. shane laughed under his breath. his hand curled around ilyaâs shoulder.
âi love you.â shane is close enough to him that his breath tickled ilyaâs neck. he pressed a kiss to his nape, âiâll save you a popsicle.â
and then shane was gone.
ilya did get up. when sofiya went down for her nap, he got up. ilya put on shorts and a t-shirt, not bothering if they were shaneâs or his. he had a chocolate protein bar. shane made him a cup of milky coffee. he brushed his teeth but avoided his hair or washing his face so he didnât have to see what they looked like. an hour or so later they took their girl to the park down the street. ilya pushed her high on the swing and ducked to run underneath her as she flew. then he spun the two of them fast on the merry-go-round, sofiya holding onto to the bars, shane holding onto her. they had left-over pasta for dinner. ilya read to her until she fell asleep next to him.
âĐżŃŃŃŃ ŃĐČĐŸĐč Đ°ĐœĐłĐ”Đ»-Ń ŃĐ°ĐœĐžŃĐ”Đ»Ń Đ·Đ°ŃĐžŃĐžŃ Đž ŃĐŸŃ ŃĐ°ĐœĐžŃ ŃĐ”Đ±Ń ĐŸŃ ĐČŃĐ”ĐłĐŸ зла.â* he murmured, tucking her in like his mama did, âgood night, ŃĐŸĐ»ĐœŃŃĐșĐŸ.â
now theyâre in bed and heâs looking at his hand resting on shaneâs chest. he thinks back on the day. how long can he keep doing half days of full time parenting? he sees time slipping through his fingers.
âyour next appointment is in two weeks,â shaneâs nose is in his hair. ilya wishes he didnât seem so far away, âyou want to move it closer?â
ilya nods from his place underneath shaneâs chin and presses his eyes shut, "the pills. they are not working like they used to."
"okay," shane brushes his hand up and down ilya's arm were its latched across his torso, "there's other options then. maybe a higher dose?"
ilya nods again, slower this time, not out of hesitation but out of blessed exhaustion. he kisses the skin nearest him, landing somewhere near shane's adam's apple, "Ń Đ»ŃĐ±Đ»Ń ŃДбŃ."
"Đ»ŃĐ±Đ»Ń ŃДбŃ, ilya. always.â

Prompt: Darling. ~580 words. @hollanovmicrofic (Set at the end of TLG.)
"Shane, how do you feel about the commissioner and the league's reaction to the events of your outing last season?" A reporter asked.
Shane and Ilya were at a press conference directly following the announcement of Shane's signing with the Centaurs. It was an environment the MLH's brightest star and long-time media darling, Shane Hollander, thrived in. He was a seasoned pro. He always knew what to say and how to say it.
"I'll be honest. The commissioner and I don't always see eye to eye. But I hope he's able to seize this opportunity to make lasting change in league culture. Change that, honestly, is much needed and long overdue."
As expected, Shane's response was perfect and poised. But Ilya couldnât help but recall how Shane talks about the commissioner in the privacy of their own home. Because in private, Shane swore like a sailor. And Ilya loved his potty mouth.
( "I fucking hate that asshole. And the way he's running the league right now is a goddamn shit show. If that fucker ever messes with us again, I'll make sure he regrets it." )
Ilya held back a smile while another reporter asked, "Shane, how do you feel about leaving your old team?"
"I've accomplished a lot with the Metros over the course of my career. Montreal was my home for many years. It's bittersweet to be leaving, but it's time."
Shane kept calm and collected despite Ilya knowing his true feelings about the Metros.
( "I gave them my blood, sweat, and tears for my entire career. For years, I thought they were my friends. Only for them to treat me like this? Fuck 'em all to hell." )
Shane didn't show it, but Ilya knew he was grateful to move on to the next question.
"How does it feel being on the same team with Ilya?"
"I've always admired his game, his confidence, and his leadership. I've always played extra hard against him on the ice. I'm excited to do the same now that we're teammates. I feel really good about being here with him and about this teamâ"
Ilya knew he should've been paying attention, but at some point while Shane was speaking, his mind drifted off to last night.
( "Fuck Ilya, I love your fucking cock. Fuckâah, I'm so fucking hard. Fuck yeah, you make me feel so good. Ilya, please, you're gonna make me cuâ" )
A familiar foot tap broke Ilya out of his daydream.
Ilya blinked. Everyone was looking at him expectantly. Oh.
"Uh, what Shane said." It almost sounded like a question.
Thankfully, he heard laughter around the room. So he doubled down. "Of course, Shane and I are on the same page."
Ilya looked to Shane, who looked back at him, lips quirking into a smile.
---
Finally, the presser ended some time after that. They walked offstage and headed towards the locker rooms.
"You know," Shane said quietly as soon as they were alone. "Wiebe gave me his office keys for the rest of the day. For privacy, in case I needed it."
"Ah, he is very nice." Ilya could always count on Coach to be accommodating.
"Yeah, he is," Shane agreed. "It's a nice office, pretty spacious too."
"Hmm?" Now Ilya was listening.
Shane got close to his ear and whispered, "And there's a couch you'd maybe wanna fuck me on, Captain?"
Oh, Ilya thought. We are definitely on the same page.

itâs only another ten minutes before shane hears the clicking of anyaâs nails on the floor and the sound of the glass door opening to let her outside. before he can turn away from the coffee pot, ilya latches onto his back, face tucking into the crook of his neck.
âyou could have slept in longer.â his hand finds its way to ilyaâs hair on instinct, scratching his scalp.
shane hollander is a morning person. ilya rozanov decidedly is not. however, shane is used to waking up to open eyes already on him, by virtue of the fact that ilya just never sleeps- at least not more than three or four hours at a time. so it was a special kind of treat this morning when shaneâs internal alarm clock went off around 6:00 am and he heard snoring, loud, deep sleep kind of snoring. it was a small thing, but if he had had any doubts that he made the right decision they would have all been washed away by the sight of ilya so at peace. he stretched his restraint as far as he could, balancing the opposing forces of his need to move and feel productive with his desire not to leave ilyaâs side. he made it to almost 8:00 doing nothing admiring and agonizing before eventually he caved. he pressed a kiss to ilyaâs temple, whispering to him about how heâll be in the kitchen if he needs him. having gotten an affirmative grumble in response shane was finally free to stretch his legs. it seems to him now that his plan had failed (but not completely unsuccessfully?)
âno, i could not have.â he doesnât sound upset, just factual, still, shane hates what that implies.
âsorry,â shane cringes, looking down at the mug of dark coffee he poured for himself on the counter and wondering if itâs cool enough yet not to scald him,âi should have just left you alone.â
âshanya, that is not what i said,â ilya scolds lightly before he starts kissing the base of his neck, âi couldnât have gone back to sleep because i am too happy.â
âoh.â his shouldersâ drop back down to normal levels. âthatâs good.â
âand you know why iâm so happy?â
his voice is much too low and close to his ear for shaneâs face not to start heating up. heâs going to feel so stupid if this is wrong, âbecause we got married yesterday?â
âhe shoots! he scores!â ilya grips him tight around his waist, hoisting him just a few inches off the ground and smacking a big âmwahâ kiss right on his cheek. a full celly, âanother goal for hollander!â
âput me down you asshole!â shane laughs and kicks his legs in perfunctory protest, grateful theyâre moving backwards now away from the hot coffee.
âyes, yes. relax.â ilya does put him down, but not before man handling him over to the marble kitchen island. now face to face, he wastes no time in giving shane proper kiss, tongue and all. shane is surprised but pleased to find that ilya has already brushed his teeth.
âĐŒĐŸĐč ĐŽĐŸŃĐŸĐłĐŸĐč ĐŒŃж,â ilya whispers, resting there foreheads together when they need time to catch their breath. âyou learned what that means?â
âyeah. i like that one.â shane smiles, having looked up the word for husband in russian an embarrassingly long time ago, âsay it again?â
âĐŒĐŸĐč ĐŽĐŸŃĐŸĐłĐŸĐč ĐŒŃж, iâll say it for the rest of my life i promise you.â
It is not often that Shane Hollander, someone who prides himself on being organized and planned and stringent with some (all) of his routines, allows himself to unravel. Itâs usually not on purposeâouttings with the Cens or house parties thrown at a playerâs home encouraging that comfortability that Shane rarely felt when out with the Metros. Because heâs relaxed, because heâs safe, he indulges in a bit more than he usually allows himself too.Â
Ilya loves so many versions of Shane; the dedicated Captain, the best player in the league (not cocky, exactly, but so well-versed and trained and knowledgeable that he can make those kinds of short comments about other players and other teams because heâs earned it), the polite dutiful son (who holds doors and thanks the waitress and always makes sure Yuna has a sweater), and his blissed out husband (someone who is warm and pliable and wanting; eyes big and brown, lower lip wet, cheeks pink under his freckles)Â
âto name a few.Â
But thereâs something about his Shane like this, wine drunk and a bit top-heavy as Ilya tries to maneuver him through the cottage front door and towards the kitchen. His body is solid and warm, smelling like laundry detergent and mint shampoo and something purely Shane. His cheeks are rosy and eyes glazed and he wonât stop smiling, especially when Ilya locks eyes with him.Â
âHi.â He says, possibly for the twentieth time since they left the bar.Â
And Ilya smiles right back, pressing a kiss to the bridge of Shaneâs nose, âHi.â He whispers.Â
They pause in the entryway, Ilya closing the front door with his foot. Shane is wobbly and off balance, like some sort of baby deer, something heâd never be on the ice. The dichotomy never fails to blow Ilyaâs mind a little bit. His hands come down to Shaneâs hips when he tries to move.Â
âShoes.â He says because Shane wonât want them on in the house.Â
Shane blinks, like he somehow forgot heâs even wearing anything on his feet. He nods, looking down almost too quickly, his hand clamping over Ilyaâs shoulder as he struggles to toe them off. A soft whine leaves his throat and Ilya hums lightly,Â
âOkay, okay,â He soothes, âI got you. Hold still.âÂ
Ilya crouches to the floor, encouraging Shane to hold onto his shoulder as he unties his sneakers. He slips the right off, then the left, and then makes the mistake of looking up at his husband in this position. Shane is staring at him through his pretty lashes, his mouth slightly open and it takes everything in Ilya to stand back up and not put his mouth to better use. He presses a few kisses to Shaneâs cheeks, gently clasping his chin with his fingers,Â
âBed?âÂ
âPancakes.â Shane replies.Â
Ilyaâs eyebrows draw together, like heâs somehow not translating something correctly, âBliny?âÂ
And Shane smiles like Ilya has offered him the sun, as if this pancake thing wasnât wholeheartedly his idea. He wraps his arms around Ilyaâs waist with enough force that they almost teeter off balance, âYes.âÂ
A warm chuckle rumbles in Ilyaâs chest, running a hand down Shaneâs spine. Pancakes. Itâs one AM and they both have practice in the afternoon but Ilya isnât going to pretend that he wonât give Shane whatever he wants. They wander towards the kitchen and Shane sticks to him like a barnacle as he gets out the bowls and ingredients. He turns his head every so often, shivering when Shaneâs lips brush against his cheek.Â
Heâs done mixing the batter when Shane announces, âI think you should kiss me.âÂ
Ilya swallows over heat that sparks embers in his chest, turning his head again to look at Shane. His Shane, who is so beautiful as he stands close in the golden light of the kitchen, shirt a bit ruffled and hair a bit messy, longer as some strands bow over his forehead. Warm cheeks and wet lips and itâs taking everything in Ilya not to press him against the counter and fuck him.Â
He grabs at his chin again, running his thumb over his lower lip, âYou think?â He says softly, âSay what you want.âÂ
Shane leans his forehead into Ilyaâs, his hand moving to thread through his curls, tugging just a little. He speaks against his mouth when he says, âKiss me.âÂ
Ilya does. The words are barely out of Shaneâs mouth before heâs gently backing him into the counter and kissing him. A soft moan vibrates against Ilyaâs chest and his hands move from clasping the sides of Shaneâs face to slide down his neck and shoulders. Ilya squeezes his sides before his fingers grab onto his hips, hoisting him up in a fluid motion so that his husband is sitting on the counter. Ilya slots in-between his legs, Shaneâs ankles hooking along his lower back.Â
He turns his head into the kiss, licking into Shaneâs mouth, making him keen out the sweetest noises that go straight to his groin. He pulls back after a moment, breathing a little heavily, kisses peppered along Shaneâs jawline until he presses one to his freckles.Â
âIlya,â Shane grabs onto his shirt, not wanting him to move. Heâs incredibly squirmy on the countertop, inching closer like thatâs somehow possible.Â
Ilya hums lightly, tipping his chin up to look into Shaneâs eyes. âYou are too tipsy, Hollander.âÂ
âI donât care,â Shane huffs, his eyes closing. His head dips forward until itâs resting on Ilyaâs shoulder.Â
Ilya rubs the back of Shaneâs neck, gently squeezing the muscles for a moment. âI do, malysh.â He whispers, turning his head to plant kisses behind Shaneâs ear. His husband shivers, swaying against him, tipping between staying awake and passing out. He cups Shaneâs cheek, running his thumb over the bone, âBliny?â He asks again, just to be sure.Â
Shane smiles and nods.Â
Ilya smirks, pulling back to get the pan out. Shane tries to follow him but Ilya shakes his head, firmly pushing on his hips, âNo, sit.â Then nips at his lower lip with his teeth, âStay.âÂ
The soft directive spills over Shane like warm honey and he nods, obeying, as Ilya makes pancakes. He pauses in the middle to get Shane a glass of water, rubbing his knee with one hand as he flips pancakes with the other.Â
Once thereâs a stack of three on a plate, he sets them down near Shaneâs thigh and gets out the butter and syrup. He grabs at the edge of one of the pancakes with his fingers, breaking off a piece to pop into his mouth as Shane slathers the top with butter and haphazardly drizzles syrup over everything. He nearly gets it on Ilyaâs hand but he doesnât seem to care, heâs too busy stabbing a forkful and taking a bite.Â
The sound that leaves Shaneâs lips is downright diabolical and Ilya has to shift on his feet and breathe out slowly through his nose.Â
âGood?â He asks, moving to brush syrup off Shaneâs chin with his thumb. He puts it directly into his mouth, Shane watching with keen interest.Â
âSo good.âÂ
Shane eats the majority of the pancakes, sighing contently as Ilya cleans up. He reaches out for Ilya and hooks a hand around his elbow, tugging until heâs standing between Shaneâs legs again.Â
âThe room is still spinning,â Shane tells him a moment later, crinkling his nose in such a way that it bunches up his freckles. Ilya almost drops to his knees right there and then, âWhich is rude.âÂ
âVery,â Ilya agrees instantly, cupping both sides of Shaneâs face. âWhat do you need?â He seems a little more sober than before, the pancakes and water doing their job. His gaze isnât as distant, his smile a shade softer, his squirming just a touch more regulated than before.Â
Shane leans forward, their noses brushing in a bunny kiss. Itâs late, they should get to sleep. Ilya needs to clean up plates and pans from the pancakes because he doesnât want Shane to wake up hungover and grouchy to a messy kitchen.Â
And yet Shane kisses him, slow and steady, intimate but not hinting at anything moreâan indication that theyâre not moving from here any time soon. He cups Ilyaâs cheek, his fingers stroking through his curls, keeping him close, âJust need you.â He whispers against his mouth and Ilya wraps his arms around Shaneâs waist, squeezing him, kissing him again.Â
Ilya opened his eyes, blinking in confusion. He and Shane must have fallen asleep while they were watchingâŠsomething. It was still snowing heavily outside; they were lucky they made it back early that morning before all of the flights were cancelled. With the season in full swing, it had been a string of road trips recently. They were grateful for this short respite. He didnât move, he was so warm and comfortable lying there against his sleeping Shane. Shane, who was so snugly in his sweatshirt with the hood pulled up and his plaid pajama pants. His long lashes skimmed his cheeks, his full lips were parted. His freckles were lighter now in the winter but they were still there, spread like constellations over his cheeks. Â
Unable to help himself, Ilya pressed a soft kiss to his jaw and then another and another. There were never enough kisses. He could spend his life kissing Shane. Shane sighed a little, turning his head back as if looking for Ilya. Ilya moved to his lips, kissing him until he kissed back, his hand coming up to thread through Ilyaâs curls.Â
âI didnât mean to wake you, lyubimiy,â Ilya said, running his fingers over Shaneâs cheek.Â
He smiled softly, still sleepy. âItâs ok,â he said, nudging Ilya closer, kissing him again, slow and sweet.Â
Shane reached for the throw blanket on the back of the couch. They stopped kissing long enough to tuck themselves in, cocooned in each othersâ warmth under the blanket. Their lips found each other, never able to stay apart.Â
They'd been apart for too long. Ilya was hungry for it, starving for Shane. So he didn't waste any time.
He kissed his way down from Shane's lips to his chest. "Moy malysh," he said reverently, before licking at Shane's nipple, then dragging his teeth lightly across it. Shane hissed. He watched him intently, his full focus on Ilya.
Making sure to give equal attention, Ilya said, "Moy dorogoy," as he moved across Shane's chest to gently bite down on his other nipple before soothing it with his tongue. He heard Shane let out a choked sound, noticing his breathing turning shallow.
Then, Ilya licked a line from Shane's chest down to his pelvis, pressing a wet kiss there, before he grabbed Shane's hard cock, grip loose on the base, whispering, "Moya lyubov," to the tip. This earned him a low groan from Shane, which turned into a full-blown moan when Ilya's mouth took in the head and sucked lightly.
Ilya's patience was running low now, his craving reaching its peak. So he lifted Shane's legs and folded them at his knees, spreading him open so he could press a messy kiss on his hole, finally tasting Shane on his lips.
"Moy lyumibimyy."
Then, Ilya proceeded to lick at his entrance relentlessly, pressing his tongue inside like he was taking Shane apart, like he needed to devour him.
"Uhn yeah, Ilya," Shane exhaled as he let the pleasure consume him. Fuck.
---
Later that day, they dropped by Shane's parents' for an impromptu Sunday brunch. There was a spread of waffles with a variety of fresh fruit and locally sourced maple syrup. But Yuna noticed that Ilya was barely having any, seemingly content with picking off some berries from Shane's plate every so oftenâdespite Shane's warning glares.
She offered Ilya his own plate, but he declined, shaking his head no before sipping his coffee.
"Ilya, honey, you're not eating?" Yuna asked.
"Ah, no thank you. I already ate."
Shane choked on his green juice and promptly proceeded to die while Ilya patted him softly on the back.
+ (A/N: I used many prompts in this one, but I really liked the idea of Ilya naming Shane's parts.) + (tsym @wckdtwn for the beta)
Shane was having a terrible day during what was likely the worst week of his life.
For starters, the promotionâthe long-awaited, coveted promotion heâd wanted for monthsâhad gone to someone else. It was completely unfair, considering how hard he worked for the company, but these things happen, so heâd let it slide. But as if that stress weren't enough, his coworkers had suddenly lost all sense of personal boundaries, messaging him even outside of work hours.
Simply awful.
And now, to make matters worse, his carâa model that reviews claimed was a veritable war machine, suitable for any occasion and great in the snowâhad simply decided to die on the way home.
Just great.
Shane turned the engine off and on again, taking a deep breath before turning the key, hoping for a miracle. As if reading his mind, the car shuddered a few times, making promising noises, only to die once more.
In the back seat, his four-year-old son was asleep in his car seat clutching his favorite stuffed duck, completely oblivious to the situation. Earlier that day, his preschool had called Shane to say he had a mild fever and should probably go home.
Shane was supposed to be getting home to give him some medicine, but now he was stuck in the middle of nowhere with a small child, and the mere thought of it sent a wave of panic surging through his chest.
He was living his worst nightmare.
He rubbed his face with one hand, wondering if he should get out of the car just to check what might be going on. It wasn't as if he knew much about mechanics, certainly, but God only knew how long it would take for roadside assistance to reach this spot.
Was he somewhere on Route 138?
Damn, Shane should call his mom. His parents could take Yuri somewhere more comfortable and look after him while Shane dealt with the hassle of getting his car towed to the dealership.
That was a good idea.
But just as the idea struck, the realization that his parents weren't even in town hit him hard. A wedding anniversary? Shane had a vague memory of his mom mentioning they were going away to celebrate something, and if he wasn't mistakenâwhich he rarely wasâthat day was today.
Everything was going wrong.
He could call his best friends, Rose and Hayden for help. No. It was better to call roadside assistance and hope the service would be fast enough.
Just as his fingers reached for his phone, ready to make the call, the sound of an engine caught his attention. Beside him, a red pickup truck gradually slowed down until it finally came to a stop right next to him.
"Everything okay?" the driver asked, his voice concerned.
Shane looked up from his phone and found himself staring at a blond man with beautiful blue eyes; the man had an unlit cigarette between his lips and a bit of stubble on his face.
And he was handsome.
Maybe "handsome" wasn't even the right word; The guy was drop-dead gorgeousâas if all of Shaneâs wildest wet dreams had suddenly come to life.
Shane froze for a few seconds, the words slipping from his mind for a brief moment. But reality soon came crashing back. Unfortunately, this wasn't the day to fall for a strangerânot when he was in the middle of a panic attack.
"We're good," Shane replied almost reflexively, even though he clearly wasn't.
The man raised an eyebrow, obviously not believing a word Shane had said.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
But when he got no answer, he simply sighedâas if telling himself "I tried"âand gave up, his fingers returning to the steering wheel, ready to drive off and leave Shane alone.
And Shane didn't want to be alone.
Damn it.
"My car won't start," Shane admitted the moment he saw the man start his own car, ready to pull away. His voice held a note of almost embarrassed distress at having to say it out loud.
The man turned his gaze back to Shane, looking somewhat wary.
"I can take a look, if you want. I'm a mechanic, you know?"
As soon as Shane nodded the man finally allowed himself to smile.
He turned off his car again and maneuvered the pickup truck with ease, parking next to Shaneâs vehicle. Then, he opened the door, taking the cigarette out of his mouth as if heâd only just remembered it was there.
Shane got out of his car too, but didn't close the door, just in case Yuri woke up.
Now, seeing him more clearly, he noticed the man was wearing a black tank top that showed off his strong arms, and jeans marked with dark stains that looked like old grease.
A real mechanic.
Seriously... what were the odds?
"British?" the man asked pointing at Shaneâs car with a slightly raised eyebrow.
"Itâs practical. Good for snow," Shane replied, offering a small, sheepish smile.
The man shrugged, a look of mild amusement playing on his lips.
"Fair."
He rested both hands on the bodywork and, in a practiced, automatic motion, pulled the hood release to check Shaneâs engine. His eyes scanned every detail, and he seemed genuinely focused on the task at hand.
Shane stood beside him, watching without really understanding what was being done. Perhaps he should have learned about cars instead of hyper-focusing on trains throughout his childhood.
Shane was focused on this when an irritated grumble came from the back seat. Yuri, the little sleeper, had finally woken up.
The boy was rubbing his eyes with his fists, his face still crumpled from sleep, and his expression was a mix of confusion, fatigue, and the onset of tearsâbothered by not being home and, worse yet, by still being sick.
âPapa...â he whimpered, his voice small and tearful.
Shane walked over to the back door, opened it, and immediately held out his arms.
âHey...â
And before Shane could finish the sentence, Yuri unbuckled himself from the car seatâmoving at lightning speedâand threw himself into Shaneâs lap. The childâs fingers wrapped tightly around his fatherâs neck, his face buried in Shaneâs shoulder.
Shane slowly rubbed the boyâs back in a soothing motion while the child mumbled softly, acting completely clingy.
âHe's grumpy when he wakes up.â
The mechanic looked up from the engine, wiping one hand on his trousers before glancing at the boy. A faint smile appeared on his face.
âMine's the same. She'd probably be screaming if she'd just woken up.â
He looked back at the engine for a few more seconds. Then, he let out a soft sigh, carefully closed the hood, and gave the bodywork two light taps.
âLook... I don't think your car can be fixed right now. I can hitch your car to the truck and drive you both home. What do you think?â
And Shane couldn't say no.
The drive was very peaceful. Yuri stayed in Shaneâs lap the whole way, much calmer now, distracted by twisting strands of Shaneâs hair around his fingers. Every now and then, though, heâd lift his head to watch Ilya. Curious.
Whenever Ilya noticed and looked back, Yuriâs eyes would go wide; heâd quickly hide half his face against Shaneâs chest, only to peek out again a few seconds later.
It soon turned into a little silent game between the two of them, and in some strange way, it felt domestic to Shane. Yuriâs giggles began to fill the truckâs cabin, completely replacing the crying from just minutes before.
It didn't take long for the cabin to appear through the trees.
âThank you. How muchâŠâ
"Don't even think about it. There's no need, sir...?"
"Just Shane, no "sir."
"Okay, just Shane. I'm Ilya. " The man replied with a soft laugh (a lovely sound) as he extended a hand in greeting.
And the moment Shaneâs fingers met Ilyaâs handâthat warm palm against his ownâhe couldn't help but think that maybe breaking down in the car hadn't been such a bad thing after all.
---
Shane hadn't expected to see him again, but less than a month later, there he was.
He had just picked Yuri up from school when a little blonde blur came racing past them in the reception area. Fast and precise, zeroing in on her target.
All Shane heard was an "ouch," followed by an "easy, Miluska," spoken in a voice that sounded strangely familiar.
A few meters away, he spotted Ilya. He was standing there, chatting with one of the teachers while absentmindedly running his hand through the little girl's golden hair. The girlâwhose name seemed to be Milaâwas clinging to his leg, trying to climb him like a tree.
It didn't take long for Ilya to notice him too; his initial surprise quickly gave way to an amused look.
Should he say hello? Did the man even remember him?
"Hey," Shane greeted him as Ilya walked over.
The man was definitely incredible to look atâa real feast for the eyes.
"Coincidence?" Ilya asked with a mischievous smile, chuckling at his own words. "Say hi, Mila."
Mila gazed at Shane and Yuri with her beautiful blue eyes. Suddenly shy, she gripped the fabric of Ilyaâs trousers even tighter with her small fingers before raising one hand in a small, hesitant wave.
Yuri waved back but quickly hid half his face behind his fatherâs leg, leaving only one curious eye peeking out.
Shane laughed at the joke. So many schools in Montreal, and they were at the same one? What were the odds?
Maybe it really was coincidence (or fate).
---
It was pretty obvious that Mila and Yuri would become inseparable.
Mila was a high-energy girlâshy at first, but completely outgoing once she warmed up. It was easy for her to bring Yuri out of his shell and get him to join in on games. And because the kids were inseparable, he and Ilya started seeing each other more often.
They did almost everything together under the guise of doing it for the children, when in reality, they simply enjoyed each other's company.
At some point, Shane realized he knew a lot about Ilya. He knew Ilya was Russian and had moved there at a young age when his parents divorced.
He knew Ilya had taken custody of his niece, Mila, after his brotherâs family was involved in a car accident, and that he had been caring for her since she was a baby. He knew Ilya had started the job initially for the money, but eventually grew to love being a mechanic and the freedom the work gave him.
He had opened a small workshop in front of his house; being his own boss allowed for a flexible schedule, ensuring he could be as present as possible in Milaâs life.
Ilya was a great guy.
Beneath that whole "Russians don't do that" persona, he was caring and concerned, always trying to ensure everyone was okay.
And maybe Shane was a little in love with him.
Every time he looked at him with those beautiful blue eyes, Shane felt his heart flutter and his palms sweat. Every time Ilya ruffled his hair in a "friendly" way, Shane felt like a teenager hitting puberty.
And the worst part was, he could almost swear Ilya was interested too. He just had no way to prove it.
---
On that day, Shane and Yuri had gone to the park for a picnic with Ilya and Mila. They had arrived early and were watching the ducks when a random woman remarked that they looked "delicious."
It was a matter of minutes, from the moment Shane had to explain why the woman had said that, to the realization hitting Yuri full force.
"But⊠Ducks are friends..." he murmured, his eyes filling with tears. Ducks were his favorite animal in the world; almost all his clothes featured something related to ducks, and even his favorite book (even though it always made her cry) was The Ugly Duckling.
Shane tried to explain.
He always tried to tell his son the truth and didn't want to lie to him. His fingers reaching out to wipe the tears streaming down his chubby cheeks, but Yuri just shrank away, refusing to be comforted by his father.
That was when another voice spoke up beside them.
"Is everything okay?" Ilya asked, but a single glance at Shaneâs face told him things weren't okay. "Hey, why is this little baby duck crying? Someone died?"
Damn.
Just hearing the words "duck" and "die" made Yuri sob even harder.
Without hesitation, Ilya lifted him off the ground with absurd ease, settling him onto his lap. One of his hands began to move slowly up and down the boy's back, in slow, steady strokes.
Mila, who had been standing beside Ilya, clinging to his leg, tilted her head curiously and asked in Russian what was happening; Ilya simply said the boy was probably having a rough day.
Soon, she asked to be held too, and Ilya shifted her to his other arm, carrying both children as if they weighed absolutely nothing.
Mila also began patting Yuriâs back, imitating the way Ilya was comforting him. It took several long minutes for Yuriâs crying to gradually subside, turning into soft sniffles as his face remained buried in Ilyaâs shoulder.
"Want to cry a little more?" Ilya asked.
The boy seemed to consider the suggestion for a few seconds, then shook his head.
"No, thank you."
Soon, Yuri seemed to realize that he wasn't being held by his father.
He looked at Ilya with his brown eyes, then at Shane, before reaching out his arms to be held by him. Seeing that Yuri wanted to go to Shane, Mila also reached out, wanting to be picked up at the same time.
Ilya smiled at himâa beautiful smileâand Shane couldn't help but imagine all his days being just like this.
It was a strangely domestic scene, but he didn't hate it at all.
He wanted this.
And also, he wanted Ilya.
note: Thanks to @pikachusthef for reviewing and polishing the English! This one was really sweet to write, especially since you get to see them becoming friends andâpossibly (probably) something more. Also, just to make clear: I don't understand anything about cars or car insurance, and I know nothing about Canada and its roads. This fic was inspired by this tweet (CLICK HERE), and as always, Yuri looks like this and Mila looks like this in my head. And yes, Yuri, Yelena, and Mila will always be Hollanov kids' names in any universe I imagine. See you guys!

He was out of town for a few days due to some brand deals. Now that his commitments are done, he's bound to go back home.
It feels calm. With his window down, feeling the air on his face, a gentle sounding melody is heard.
(Chelsea mon amour: Philippe B.)
Chelsea mon amour.. Je marche et toi tu cours.. Je dors et toi tu rĂȘves.. Et on s'aime chacun son tour
Rhythmically tapping his thumb along with the music, he smiles. It's going to be an exciting day ahead. Who doesn't love going out on a date after days of hard work?
âž
Following the paved drive way, the crunching sound of the gravel can be heard while Shane parks the car.
Click. The door opens. Anya is curled up, sleeping, on her favorite dog bed at the corner of the living room. As soft snoring sounds can be heard Shane calls for Ilya sofly. âIlya. Are you upstairs?â
âYes.â Ilya responds. Hearing the confirmation, Shane nods as if to answer and went straight to the kitchen. He can take a breather after that drive. Sitting on one of the island stools with a glass of water.
With their day packs on hand, Ilya descends the stairs and did a quick scan to spot where his husband is. With a wide smile on his face, he thought â Oh how he misses this beautiful man sitting in the kitchen. Carefully, so as not to startle Shane, he crossed the distance and wrapped his arms around the other's waist. âHey,â planting a kiss on the cheek.
As if on cue, Shane relaxed and rested his back on Ilya's chest. Hmm, he let out a soft hum. Grabbed the back of Ilya's head as he slightly turned around to catch a quick peck on that luscious lips. âHey to you too.â
âReady to go?â Ilya asked. âI have our bags and food prepared.â
âDid you pack my bag as I kindly instructed?â
âOf course, mon ange.â Ilya responded confidently with a wink. âI listen very well to instructions.â
Shane laughed tenderly. âThank you very much.â
âž
While driving through the city traffic, Shane had to double (or actually triple) check the console screen to make sure Ilya has entered the correct address for today's destination.
Noticing the little bit of nervous energy beside him, Ilya playfully comments. âI hope we don't get lost.â
âOh, I hope not.â Shane side eyeing him with a cute huff.
âGoogle map is correct and I'm following it.â Ilya insists.
âI'm just making sure.â
âI have to find and cross the bridge first..â Ilya confidently says. âThen we're good to go.â
That's right. Just follow google maps. Simple. Shane thought.
Nature; Fresh air; Green scenery; The simple things that actually heals the soul. A feel good, relaxing way to also get some exercise in.
Where? You might be curious. From Ottawa to Gatineau. This is where they will end up todayâthe Pink Lake. To hike the trail, to look at the view, to simply just be together, and you know? Breathe. It's been a whirl wind of a season.
Ilya's driving has been surprisingly smooth, not too fast like how he is usually with his fancy cars. It's a steady pace and Shane took this opportunity to fully relax in his seat. From time to time they'd engage in random conversationsâfrom hockey (as always) to the most mundane thing like the random bakery they had passed by a minute ago. Which according to Ilya, smelled like a delicious sourdough bread.
âAccording to the map, you need to turn right at the next light.â Shane prompted. âand then we should be there.â
Ilya nods and an okay follows. A few meters of driving and the prompt on the screen indicated their destination is to their left. It clearly looks like a parking lot and a full one at that. Ilya doesn't seem convinced so he slows down at the curb, looks for a safe spot and turns on the hazard light.
âHmm..â his eyes are scanning the area. âI think this is not it.â
âWhat do you mean?â Shane asks in confusion. âThis is the Park's visitor center. Aren't we supposed to start here and leave the car?â
âNo.â Ilya said. âI did my research. This is not what I imagine.â he takes out his phone and ran google maps again. Shane looks at him with amusement. Zooming the map in and out with such concentration on his face. Did the glorious Hollander spirit posses Ilya to be this invested?
âAha! I know.â Ilya smirks.
âAlright,â Shane pulls a thumbs up. âDrive away.â
The drive is towards a long and winding road. As you would imagine of the entirety of the park, it does not fall short in terms of trees. A variety of species, structure and age. Ever inch of land holds a tree proud and tall.
âI was imagining we were to take the shuttle from the bottom.â
âNo,â Ilya replies. âI can drive us to the spot.â
âIs there a parking lot up there?â Shane asks.
When planning came up, one of the things Shane wanted to make a 100% sure of was parking. He knows how this can go south if not planned properly and god knows he doesn't want to get their car towed for whatever parking violation it might occur. He had skimmed through the park website and one advice that came up was to take a shuttle for convenience and to avoid traffic congestion. It was highly advised to say the least.
However, for some reason, Ilya managed to convince him to let loose a little. As much as he tries to hold on to the idea of having control of most things in his life, he did end up saying yes to Ilya doing the research and some planning.
âThere is. Mon ange, don't worry.â
Shane nods in agreement. This is their day off and Ilya did his due diligence. It's supposed to be a relaxing day after all. There's no need to worry. And, it didn't take long for them to arrive at their first stop.
âThen why is called Pink Lake?â Ilya asked curiously.
âHuh?â
âYou ever think about that?â
Good question quite honestly, Shane thought quietly. âWait. I'm sure there's an info graphic of it somewhere. Let's keep walking.â
âYes, sirâ Ilya salutes playfully. âYou can lead the way this time.â
Onward we go. Hold my hand, my darling and let's make more memories together.
(The photos are mine. Enjoy the view đ. The lake isn't a difficult hike and yes the scene is inspired by the time I went there with a friend lol)
âwhat did they do, sweetheart?â ilya knows exactly what they did, itâs the reason theyâre even at this club in the first place (not to mention that this the third time shane has come over to him to have this same conversation), but like the thesp that he is, ilya plays along.
âthey made me into a drink.â shane lifts his left hand triumphantly into the air. the glass in his hand is mostly melting ice and candied ginger by now so it doesnât spill. ilya tightens his grip on his waist a little regardless. âhollander on holiday!â
âwow, signature cocktail.â he grins, still not tired of how proud drunk shane is to associated with the groundbreaking idea to put ginger ale, club soda and vodka together, âottawa must have missed you.â
âah no, thank you,â he shakes his head and gently pushes the cup away from his lips, âmore for you, ĐŃĐ±ĐžĐŒŃĐč. you deserve it.â
shane tips back his glass and gets no actual liquid, only a piece of candied ginger in his mouth but he hums happily regardless. heâs swaying side to side with it as he chews. ilya gently brushes his bangs away from where they got sticky and sweat matted to his forehead. shane smiles, his eyes closed, just enjoying the feeling. ilya hooks a finger under his chin and leans into him. he kisses his cupids bow, then the left corner followed by the right corner of his mouth.
âyouâre happy.â he declares, kissing the tip of shaneâs nose as well.
âiâm drunk.â shane corrects with an honest to god giggle, and then he realizes, eyes blinking open wide, âilya, iâm actually so fucking drunk.â
âЎа, that seems to be the case.â ilya nods with slightly teasing solemnity. his hand leaves shaneâs waist to find the back of his neck.
âyou can drive?â shane shudders, relaxing into the feeling of ilya kneading muscles he forget were even tense.
âyes my shane i will drive.â
âokay,â at least, he means to say okay but instead it comes out like okei. ilya rewards him for it with a kiss to his temple. shane sighs bodily against somehow sinking even further into him. âyeah, okay. i love you. thank you.â
