Mohammed requires a bone graft surgery in his left hand to avoid an amputation because the IDF shot him with an explosive bullet when he was bringing aid. Mohammed is 17 years old. He lives with his parents, six sisters, and his little sister Malak and 2-year-old brother Ameer. Their home was destroyed. He is raising funds to support the bone grafting surgery and to reconstruct their home.

again more simply put, i would rather have my dead loved one continue using drugs in a safe manner and stay alive, than die the way they did because the stigma around substance use is not only dangerous, but lethal.

Our minimum daily expenses here in Gaza today:

2 kilos of flour: 160 shekels (about $40)

Any simple meal to cook: 80 shekels (about $20)

Firewood for cooking: 15 shekels (around $3.5)

Diapers: 20 shekels (around $4, and that’s the bare minimum per day)

Drinking water: 5 shekels (around $1.4)

Daily total: 280 shekels (about $70)

280 × 30 days = 8400 shekels (about $2100 per month)

And if we want to withdraw this amount in cash from apps that charge 40% commission, we actually need around 15,000 shekels per month — nearly $4000!

Then what? Where can we possibly get that from?

As for vegetables, fruits, drinks, coffee, tea, sweets… these are things we don’t even remember anymore. All we care about now is simply staying alive. We no longer think about what’s healthy or good for our children.

My children are weak and frail; it breaks my heart to see them like this. I wish I were stronger to bear this responsibility. I truly wish our lives could go back to how they were. They used to be spoiled and never lacked anything… and now I’m even depriving them of a piece of bread!

They keep coming back to me asking for food again and again, and I don’t even know how to answer them each time… I try to distract them and make them forget they’re hungry.

Aren’t children entitled to care, a clean environment, outings, and education? I feel so sad for them; they were born only to struggle with this harsh life and unbearable prices.

I truly hope what I write can be shared… because this painful reality shouldn’t be hidden. Everyone should know what we’re going through, so maybe, just maybe, someone can reach out a helping hand — so life can go back to normal, and we can return to our work.
