Scratch's tumor was the origin of the start of the different abstractions including his own? Like hear me out , in Jack's almost abstraction shot it looks like brain activity. What if the tumor was recreated as a virus that started to spread when the code of the others started to "weaken" because of mentally losing it? I mean maybe I'm trying to grasp at straws but the idea of abstraction doesn't seem like something that should exist in the digital circus and wasn't programmed originally. I mean it seems like corruption of files in a way ? Like the character files of the members of the circus.
