The hard part is wondering whether their relationship is truly happy, or whether he’s hurting her too. I don’t know which is worse. Obviously I don’t want him to be abusing her, but if he isn’t abusing her, then it makes me question why I wasn’t “good enough” to not be raped.

I know that this is something that many survivors struggle with. I also know that in his first relationship, the one he was in before me, which lasted for 3 years, they looked very happy on social media but privately he told me she was controlling and cold. Then I found out a few years later that she actually told a friend that he was the worst thing that ever happened to her.

I know that appearances can be deceiving, and that just because he’s been dating someone for a few years doesn’t mean he’s changed. 

But what if he has changed? What if he’s “good” now? What if he’s never raped his current girlfriend?
