With Fade to Black from 1980, Student Bodies from 1981, and then from Fright Night in 1985 and Friday the 13th Part VI from 1986, up on through to Evil Dead 2 in 1987, Intruder in 1989, and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare from 1994, the horror genre did it before and better than the popular, mainstream comedy parodies of the slasher subgenre and horror generally. By the time you get to Scary Movie (2000), you are watching a poor imitation of Scream (1996) and calling it parody or satire. The latest abomination is further proof that the Scary Movie franchise parodies horror movies for people too stupid to understand horror movies.

I never want to hear someone in a film, with mock ironic meta-awareness, reductively explain the "rules of slashers/horror movies" ever again.
