I’ve had more free time on my hands lately, resulting in only a week-long wait in between updates of my fanfic!

No apology necessary!

For you, here’s a snippet from the one-shot sequel to my Primeval fic so many somethings. Started writing it ages ago, but it hasn’t quite gotten off the ground just yet.

“But,” he counters, taking it back, “what if I come over for a… really early date sometime?”

Her eyes narrow, but there’s a teasing lilt to her smile. “An early date?”

“Or, y’know…” he continues with a shrug. “I could… stay the night?”

He looks down at the cereal box, fiddling with the tab awkwardly. When he hazards a glance at Abby, she’s smirking, which he thinks is a good sign.

“Could you now?” she replies slyly.

“Just a thought.”

“And,” she continues, “this hypothetical overnight stay… it wouldn’t be like last time, would it?”

His brow furrows. “Last time?”

“When you slept off a hangover in Jack’s room.”

Two months isn’t quite long enough for the humiliation of that night to fade, but Connor smiles anyway.

“That depends,” he says, waggling his eyebrows at her. “Did that do anything for you?”

She reaches out to tug at his scarf playfully and shrugs.

“Dunno, it was a bit cute.”

“Was it?”

“Connor?”

He freezes, laugh catching in his throat at the all-too-familiar voice. Shit, she doesn’t shop here, does she? Turning, he goes for a friendly smile that probably comes across more like a grimace.

“Caroline. Hi.”
