Yesterday I happened to purchase a magazine I had been looking forward to. 

I was diappointed in GLASSbook's first print magazine: GLASSbook PREMIERE ISSUE, Best of Glassbook's Editorials; with facebook tagline: GLASSbook Quarterly is "Beauty and Fashion as Art".

There wasn't much to be seen that wasn't already online and it failed to include a single paragraph of written work. No article, interview, excerpt, foreward, or letter from the Editor. Their facebook tagline, 'Beauty and Fashion as Art', seemingly exists to divert the necessity of any written portion. But even books showcasing international artists such as Vitamin P, Vitamin D, and Graffiti World include in-depth paragraph's which ultimately exemplifiess each book's overall thesis. This publication lacked any missionary notation. All we had to go on was their facebook tagline, noted above. 

I happened to purchase the digital version for $6 and lucky for me, I saved $24.00 on the 148 page magazine, boasting an expensive price compared to a hard copy full colour matte paged Graffiti World Book containing more than double the page count. I am more visually entertained by reading the Model Mayhem's Announcement page, which often leads to interesting images from international artists, their biographies & possible portfolio of published work.  I don't have to spend a dime. I could have spent my $6 on a glass of Chianti whilst I floundered photography sites in hopes to find neat pixels.  

The publication failed to entertain by it's presence of distant intrigue. A short paragraph on each or even ONE editorial would have sufficed. I shouldn't have to google every single photographer, artist, or fashion-happening image and wonder the Who What Where of history therein. Even a forward would have been nice. Or a letter from the editor. And someone requiring FASHION FOR DUMMIES wouldn't even know where to begin.

The magazine included a collection of editorials from international photographers, but I could look through a dozen magazines, cut out each 5 page spread and tape them together-- Voila... GLASSbook!I was disappointed in the lack of message, direction & above all, irrefutability. Who is the editor in chief and what are their credentials? I am not saying it was dripping with inadeuqate research or the absence of authenticism. The images werequality.

And who am I even? No one really. I have no credentials. This is just an opinoin. Take it for what you will.  

Their Facebook fan page clearly states their mission, 'to showcase content that is rich both in art form and aesthetic brilliance.' Fair enough. But it doesn't seem to add up. And of course I could just be an overly critical bitch but I really think the magazine is lazy. Compiling a bunch of images together (where the photographers, stylists & models have already done the work for you) and not doing much else in regards to how the mission & matter connects!? Just seems... like a mission failure. Where there is no connection to art history and thus failing to showcase refutable 'art forms'. Afterall, the magazine exists solely from the process of photo electronic submission, like a limbo realm of randomness.

  I was not blasted with artistic rich content. I was blasted with colorful pixels submitted to the magaizne who wanted their work publicized. Well, let's just say it was 'printed'. 

Maybe it's the internet's fault. Newspapers are dying afterall. Why not magazines? Why shouldn't we just publish images? I guess we should save some trees & put the text on screen. But that's an entirely different topic taking ownership away from the fail of a publication I was looking forward to. 

It was just a book of undeniable cool pictures, not a book about them. I will not be purchasing again, and will be happy knowing that their equal online Facebook content surpasses & suffices, while remaining FREE.
