Direct opposites Louclaudia and Lesclaudia.
With Louclaudia, the love is there. Itβs obvious and overwhelming. Claudia knew Louis loved her. But their biggest problem was a serious lack of understanding. Claudia could not read Louis at all. She could not understand virtually anything about him, whether it be his vampirism, his love life, how he saw himself, how he felt about the people and world around them. Love was there, understanding was not. And so Claudia dies, knowing Louis loved her, but having never understood him or felt understood by him.
With Lesclaudia, understanding was there. She knew Lestat like the back of her hand and could predict what heβd say and do and think before he even did it. But their biggest problem was a severe absence of love. Claudia did not feel loved by Lestat at all. She always felt like a tolerated burden, and soon grew to believe he felt nothing but hate and resentment for her. Any and all possible niceties skewing into selfish lies and mockery. Understanding was there, but love, at least the feeling of it, was not. And so Claudia dies, having always understood Lestat, but having never felt loved by him.
Both of these were the fault of the parents. Louis has always held his thoughts & feelings close to his chest. Most times out of societal survival, but often out of self hatred conditioned into him since childhood, leading to him being avoidant and too self restrictive. Whereas Lestat craves endless love & attention. And this stems from always having felt unloved and unwanted by pretty much everyone since childhood, leading his desperation to turn overly competitive and like a βwell with no bottomβ.
They both bled these unworked traumas into their relationships with Claudia. And this is how she ends up in a house suffocating under an excessive amount of love & a magnifying glass level of observation and understanding while at the same time not being given nearly enough of either.
