the thing about the beach is you’re exhausted from swimming against the tide and your calves are sore from walking on squishy sand and your feet are scratched up from broken seashells on the ocean floor and the sun exposure makes you sleepy and you’re dehydrated because you keep forgetting to bring a water bottle with you instead of iced coffee and your mouth tastes of salt water and you can feel sand in there every time you swallow and you can’t quite get comfortable because you have a constant wedgie from your swim suit and you have water in your ear from getting smacked around by the waves that may get infected and your nose burns from the salt air and water and your body aches from the sunburn you got the day before because you didn’t reapply sunscreen after going in the water and your eyes hurt from the glare of the sun even with sunglasses on and you can’t hear what your companions are saying over the waves and the wind and you barely read the book you brought along because you keep getting distracted by screaming children and it’s the best you’ve felt since the last time you were at the beach
