i am still early on in reading (and understanding) the locked tomb but my favorite part of gideon the ninth is that you’re introduced to this world and made to think that this is how everyone is in the Empire, that the ninth house sets the tone for everyone you will meet because we are in a third-person limited POV à la gideon. but no. the ninth house are just goth freaks. there are normal–blisteringly normal–people throughout the universe. the lens the reader perceives everything through is just the Angsty Catholic-Adjacent Goth Lens
