We almost lost Atreyu yesterday. I know I drew him cute and perky at the end (he did have a small hilarious moment- I’ll make that a part two tomorrow). But the reality is he is in a lot of pain. He has trauma to his throat; from where this ball was lodged in his airways, the puking and gagging around it, and the vets themselves fighting to remove the ball.

He went a while with no breathing but he doesn’t seem to have any brain damage. He has an incision on his neck where the put in a breathing tube. His lungs have fluid in them as well from the puking and heaving so we are watching for pneumonia.

He’s very sore but still such a loving boy. How this happened was he likes to have all the balls and keep them away from our other German Shepherd. They were running through the woods and Atreyu had his big blue ball. What I didn’t know was behind it was a heavy duty standard size ball. We assume either from jumping over logs or maybe a tree branch punched the blue ball backwards and shoved the 2nd ball down his throat.

I cried my heart out then and am still crying just thinking of what would have happened if I had left for work a minute earlier.
