now when non US citizens apply for US visa, need answer 2 new questions

1) “Have you experienced harm or mistreatment in your country of nationality or last habitual residence?”

2) “Do you fear harm or mistreatment in returning to your country of nationality or permanent residence?”

this be done to stop asylum seekers

if answer yes to any question -> visa denied can’t enter US (n denied visa application make it harder for future get visa for US n also sometimes other countries)

if answer no to both but US government later find out you not mean that (eg by apply for asylum when get into US) -> can be prosecuted for lying to federal officer (n also presumably get asylum application denied) (also even if u get out this safely. you now have this on record)

important to note. you need physically be in US to apply for US asylum. you cannot apply outside of US.

this be series of visa tightening done by trump administration recently, previously include need set all social media to public so US immigration can check as part of many visa application categories (have said that. do remember this be A Thing for long before this. stuff like this not unique to this administration. it be long standing.)
