It's not gaslighting to tell you what the author wrote and how she intended the story to be. It is gaslighting to tell people who enjoy the story as it was written (an erotic, age-gap, dubious, monsterfucker bdsm fantasy) that they are pedophiles or support pedophilia or endorse child abuse, all of which have been claimed to Marimand shippers, and which you yourself have insinuated to me personally.
Believing TVA to be solely a story about Armand's traumatic reflection on horrific abuse is fanon, flat-out. It's an interpretation that can be made, sure, but it's not the text as it was written. To understand this, you need to jump out of your comfort zone, explore historical context, the author, her background, and her beliefs (whether or not you agree with them) and realize what was actually being written. The show is not an accurate portrayal of either canonical Armand nor Marius, nor their relationship. Hell, the show hasn't even confirmed at all that they had a relationship when he was 15-17, so you can't even claim that unless you want to take from the books, in which case you're not allowed to cherry-pick. Show fans don't get to reclaim a book ship that has existed for decades prior to this reinterpretation. If it could be acknowledged as interpretation, that's one thing, but the majority of people taking issue are refusing to read the text as intended, refusing to educate themselves, and are riding on a knee-jerk reaction to something that upsets them, which in turn causes them to demonize and alienate actual fans of the actual text. That's not ok.
