Okay, I’ve let this ask stay in my inbox for a couple of days because this response baffles me. I gotta love that tiny detail in which you don’t want to include neither Nami nor Nico Robin. It’s as if you’re almost admitting that they’re better characters. Anyhow, I highly disagree with your claim of One Piece having a weaker set of female characters than Fairy Tail. You say you can barely even remember them? Well, same can be said about what I think of most female characters in Fairy Tail, I barely remember them either. Now, you may not remember them yourself, but I can recall the beauty of the vast majority of female characters, minor and major alike. Let’s start, shall we?

First of all, that last bit there was honestly rude and uncalled for. Secondly, are you trying to imply that Vivi didn’t take matters into her own hands? I’m sorry, but have you even read the series? Because if you did, you would have known that at the age of 14, after finding out about Baroque Works, she infiltrated the organization and stayed undetected for two whole years working as a bounty hunter. Fighting pirates became a living for her those years and she proved strong enough to become a Frontier Agent of the organization, which, if you didn’t know, are directly responsible for taking down pirate crews. For two whole years she took down wanted pirates. And what was her weapon of choice? 

Frikkin tiny sharp discs attached to a wire that she threads on her pinkie. No swords, no guns, no cannons, devil fruit ability or anything of the like. She went for those. And she sure as hell proved herself capable of using them when she later in the series took out two higher ranking Frontier Agents in one fell swoop.

She’s a normal human being who doesn’t have the privilege of having any special abilities which Juvia does, but she more than makes up for it with cunning and skill. So what if she’s a pretty princess? She’s showed herself to be a much more interesting character than Miss “Gray-sama I love you”. 

Everything I’ve said here doesn’t even come close to do any justice for just how great of a character Vivi is. Her dedication to her country, the willingness to fight tooth and nail to secure peace, hell, even the balls to directly attack the guy who nearly killed Luffy three times is just amazing to me.

And she could have killed him right  there on the spot if she actually knew about his weakness.

I could have went on about how great Vivi is, but I simply don’t have the time to search up all the images needed. 

As for Juvia, there really isn’t all that much to say about her. Sure she might have had some cool fights and sure she’s shown that she too has Fairy Tail’s “Uber friendship/love power that surpasses all”, but fighting isn’t necessarily all that matters. What truly matters is how memorable a character is. And really, if Vivi truly wasn’t amazing, then how come people still remember her fondly a whole 14 and a half years after her arc ended?

Now compare that to Juvia who is part of the main cast yet is only remembered for her repeated words of adoration for Gray. Yeah, there honestly is no contest between the two. Juvia’s been given way more screentime than Vivi, but the latter is still the one who left the biggest mark.

so i figured that jasper’s motivation, her entire sense of self-worth, hinges on her purpose: to fight. and well, it sure just became spelled out in canon, huh? so let’s talk about what that means for her.

i think one important thing to make clear is - right now, she does value herself. quite highly, in fact, as she’s still fighting, still smiling, still ready to go up against “rose” whenever she gets the chance. 

however, when one’s self-worth hinges on one, singular purpose, it’s very fragile, and deeply unhealthy.

“jaspers don’t give up”… but she hasn’t realized what that means yet. 

i think amethyst had a very good point with “having other stuff going on”. one of the reasons jasper’s behavior is so self-destructive (next to being, yknow, destructive in general) is that single-minded obsession, which is what this IS, can really break someone if they fail. 

she’s trying to hold on to something - this one, defining purpose - and she thinks she can just keep going. and going. and going, as long as she has that…

but i think i know what her breaking point is, now.

in the past couple of episodes, she’s made it explicitly clear what purpose she’s given herself.

she came for rose. rose’s army. rose’s allies. it’s always been about rose. whatever she needs to do, it’s always justified, because she needs to defeat rose. 

but. rose is already gone. that fight is “won”. 

and yet, if she finds out… i don’t think she’ll celebrate.

not only will it mean she does NOT get to be the hero who avenges homeworld’s loss (and yes, that is how she imagines herself, that connection of war and glory is what her entire self-value hinges on)… she’ll also realize this fixes nothing. 

she’s still stuck on earth. homeworld still lost the war. she still has “no life”, as amethyst put it. 

she’s already lived years in a world without rose. 

“jaspers don’t give up… until we get what we want”. 

with that, her entire internalized sense of “purpose” has no point anymore. she will finally have to face the truth: that everything she worked for, her great enemy defeated… it accomplished nothing. 

it’s an incredibly harsh reality, but it might be a point she has to get to. with the unhealthy, deteriorating and destructive state of her mind… she needs to face that truth. 

otherwise, she can’t “get a life”.
