your partner is not your therapist. listening to your partner is one thing, but it is not their responsibility to help you work through your shit. that is on you.

Been in this exact situation and let me tell you a thing. It was absolutely draining on me, physically, mentally and emotionally. The guy had deep depression (which I don’t fault him for, I’ve got my own issues) but I was expected to completely support him and always tell him how handsome and smart he was and it got to the point where I was just saying the empty words so he’d shut up for awhile. I was putting so much effort into caring for him that I had no energy to care for myself. 6 months of that took everything out of me. I tried explaining when we broke up and even before, but he still thinks I’m just a bitch who ended our relationship cause he was depressed.
