Satoru can’t look away from him. He forgot the effect of Suguru laughing. Forgot that it was intravenous, that it filled something bottomless in him; made him want to run his goddamn mouth, run it like a kid on the tarmac at recess. This time, though, he was fresh out of anecdotes, of wisecracks, and the nostalgia confused itself for desperation. 

“I looked for you everywhere,” he says quickly, a little helplessly. “I looked for you in margins. You went so cold that I -”

“What?” Still a hint of a smile, though it had turned sardonic. “Forgot I was real?”

“Forgot you were good.”

Slowly, that makes Suguru come back to himself. The creases by his eyes iron out, going cold, like tea. -
