I Thought I'd Lost You

I looked into Lucy’s eyes, and it suddenly dawned on me what the scene was about. It wasn’t a love scene at all. I didn’t need to kiss her, or have sex with her, or make her my wife.

I wanted to understand her. It was that simple. I wanted to know everything I possibly could about this woman.

Somebody coughed. I had a line to say.

but with michael…I feel like they really dropped the ball bc outside of jane, who is he and what does he want in life besides making jane happy? we know he used to be a detective and waay back in s1 he did have a brother but that was short lived when the writers decided to cut that story line. but other than loving jane what else was there to him? and I think this is where ppl have issues with michael bc he’s so one dimensional and hasn’t rly gone through any character growth, we haven’t seen who he was outside of loving jane and wanting to be with her. even when he died, came back, lost his memories, got his memories back still the only thing he wanted or cared about was being with jane again. nothing else. it was a very traumatic experience that was wrongfully taken lightly only to be swept up in some romantic act that is just loving jane and possibly getting the chance to be with her again. I feel like that was his only purpose and it shouldn’t have been. michael just came off as very uninteresting and bland, he got reduced to just a love interest and nothing more, something so many other female characters face in other tv shows only to be killed off later and forgotten about. bottom line, michael doesn’t have much of a story outside of jane and to me as a viewer, rly makes me not care about him when I don’t even know him after all this time watching the show.
