It has recently been suggested that I simply don’t want to be polyfidelious myself, and that’s why I’m sometimes judgemental about it.

I mean, no, I have no interest it for myself. But aside from that, I see people choosing it all the time for reasons of insecurity. “if we’re both dating the same person we won’t get jealous!” (newsflash: you will) “I can cope with him having one more partner but that’s it!” (resentment on both sides incoming). As an elder of a community where we’ve thrown away the dating rule book and started again from the beginning, I feel I have a responsibility to put information out there to help those who are at the lost and confused early stages of their poly adventures.

And here’s the thing. You’ve decided that two people in a relationship, and only two people, is not right for you. There are other options! Like three is the magic number! Or four! Or five! But once you know you can love more than one, why would you think that there would be a natural close point? Polysaturated is one thing: I completely get “I don’t have time for more so I’m not looking”. But polyfidelity is a different thing. It’s monogamy, with a couple of bonus people.
