SO... I MADE A WEBSITE
This is SpiteWrite!
It's a gamified writing platform that allows you to watch a cute monster grow in the green test tube as you increase your word count, until it fully develops when you reach 15,000 words total!
I've got a couple different monsters up already, multiple color variations that they each come in, and I plan to consistently update with new monsters and variations that will be selected at random to develop in the tubes.
The PURPLE tube belongs to Ace, your SpiteWrite rival. I've written him so many dialogue lines for a variety of situations (including if you log in late at night lol), and his monster slowly develops over time as well to simulate competition.
Honestly, I built this because I've been struggling with burnout pretty bad from an old job (PRE-Glimmer era), and personal life struggles, so I wanted a way to make writing fun for more than just the outcome again. Trick my brain into enjoying what I love again. I've had a blast drawing the monsters so far!
It's been out for a day, and been in the hands of my beta testers for a little longer, and I've made some accessibility and quality of life improvements to the site already! (Built in dictation software, a dimmer switch for the background, the ability to swap between serif and sans fonts, the ability to change font size for reading...etc). I plan to keep improving as we go along!
I'm also going to be releasing Android and iOS apps soon (Just found out that my ID expired last month, so I have to wait for the new card before I can make developer accounts), which are optimized for mobile. The apps will be paid subscriptions (I believe it's fair since I will be constantly be updating with new monsters, and intend to add word count paced story events down the line), but the website, including mobile web, will always be free.
For security (I know that's a concern with how Google Docs has been scraping people's info), I use Supabase and Netlify for the database and webhost, and both have native security features. No one but me has access to the database, and only you have access to your account. (I explicitly chose not to have the ability to share documents, since that can introduce a security risk, but you CAN export and download your own documents to share however you want to after that. It's just more secure this way)
