fyi
this post has been up for five hours and has two notes. i think tumblr shitcanned it because it has pictures of women wearing bras on it. very cool. no censorship message, just vanishing it
AHHHHHH someone put all the info from the now-extremely-hard-to-read, 10+ year old bra post into one nice infograph! THAT POST WAS MY BOOB BIBLE. Yay Boob New Testament!
Types of Bras
Getting Caught In The Shops...
It doesnāt matter if youāve been dressing up for years or if you started yesterday; weāve all had the same fear. The fear that the cashier knows youāre really buying the dress for yourself, that those heels look dangerously your size and not yourĀ āgirlfriendsā, that itās strange that a man would spend ages looking for something simple - as though he was browsing.
Some of us (myself included) have grown out of this fear, but that doesnāt mean weāve never experienced it, or ever been caught in fact. However, sometimes being caught does more good than bad, but Iāll explain that later.
So, here are some of my favourite tips that I (used to) use to not draw suspicion to myself when looking for dresses/underwear/heels etc:
1.Ā āItās for my girlfriendāĀ
The easiest and most common trick in the book, and I feel it doesnāt need that much of an explanation; just pretend itās for your āgirlfriendā. This is easier to pull off when you donāt have anyone with you because then they can only imagine what size yourĀ āgirlfriendā is.
Pros
Can get away with buying nearly anything, provided youāre alone.
Easily believable.
Cons
Going-on about yourĀ āgirlfriendā too much will look suspicious.
Retail Assistants arenāt stupid. Some will figure out that you and your girlfriend are similar sizes.
2.Ā āHelp me Iām stupid and donāt know how to do girlās clothesā
Another common one, especially useful when browsing. Itās not right to stereotype, but letās face it some are true, and men very rarely know how to browse for clothes. This is perfect though, as you can simply play the role of a typical man who doesnāt know the difference between peplum and skater.Ā
First, make sure you write down your measurements and what style of dress/skirt/whatever you want. This will come in useful for later.
Ask a Retail Assistant to help you find a dress/underwear/heels/whatever. Donāt give away too much information at once (who itās for/their size/what they like), just say youāre looking for a dress/skirt/whatever in a certain colour/style. Chances are the Retail Assistant will ask the extra questions. This is when you pull out your note from earlier with all the details, and simply read it out to them. This all adds to the idea that you have no idea what youāre doing and youāre just doing the shopping for someone else.
Alternative Method:Ā Go in the shop once and take a picture of what you want. Return to the shop later and show the Retail Assistant the picture. Theyāll simply assume youāve been sent on an errand.
Pros
Much lower risk of getting caught, especially if you do it right.
Allows you to browse without risk, plus Retail Assistants generally give good advice.
Cons
Very time consuming, especially if you already know what you want.
Not for the prideful.
3.Ā āYep, those heels are for me. The dress as wellā
Hereās a method which I learnt a long time ago: simply being honest. Iāll walk you through how I discovered how it works:
I was buying a pair of heels with Moon. You might have already guessed that we donāt share the same shoe size (Iām size 9, sheās something like 5) but we were hoping the Sales Assistant wouldnāt notice. Funnily enough when we get to the checkout, the cashier looks at the size and then at Moonās feet, quickly addingĀ āI think thereās been a mistake, these shoes look way too big for you dear.ā
Without missing a beat, and definitely before Moon could speak (because she would definitelyĀ try to think of an excuse which most likely wouldnāt make sense) I repliedĀ āThatās because theyāre for me.ā
Sounds like a nightmare right? Being caught trying to buy clothes and getting exposed, horrible right?Ā
WRONG
You can make up any story you like, as long as it involves you wearing the clothes. My favourites include:
Stag party
Genderswap party
Charity act
As long as you donāt give specifics, you can get away with it. Iāve even had occasions in the past where Sales Assistants have offered to let me try on the clothes before I buy.Ā
Pros
No lying involved, so suspicion flies out the window.
The Sales Assistant can help you more if they know itās for you.
No-one really cares if the dress is for you.
Cons
Ironically, can take a lot of balls, especially the first time.
You might be unlucky and run into someone narrow-minded. This wonāt really make a difference except for maybe a snide remark.
Added Bonus: Iām now at a point where I can straight up tell a Sales Assistant Iām buying dresses for myself without feeling the need to explain it.
So What One Do I Use?
Whichever one you feel most comfortable with. I started at 1, moved on to 2 and then eventually got used to 3. It doesnāt really matter as long as you get what you went shopping for. In some shops Iāve genuinely saidĀ āIām a crossdresser, so whatās gonna make me look pretty?ā. So far, Iāve had no trouble, just the occasional question.
Sorry again for the lengthy post, but if you need any reason to shop in-person rather than online, just remember that some of the best outfits come from browsing through racks, not webpages. For example:
Everything in that outfit: the dress, the heels, whatās underneath, I bought them all from a shop, not online. Itās one of the my favourite outfits and I would have never got it by simply searching online.
Hope this has helped some of you! Just give it a try once in a while and youāll get used to shopping the right way!
Any questions? Feel free to drop me a message! :)

Today is a special day. June 4th 2019 marks the 15th anniversary of the Killdozerās rampage through Granby Colorado.
Sit down kids and let me tell you a tale, about a reasonable man driven to do unreasonable things.
Marvin Heemeyer was a man who owned a muffler shop in Granby Colorado. The city council ordained to approve the construction of a concrete factory in the lot across from Marvinās shop. In the process this blocked the only access road to the muffler shop. Marvin petitioned to stop the construction to no avail. Petitioned to construct a new access road, and even bought the heavy machinery to do so himself. Denied.
The concrete factory went up in disregard to the ramifications on Marvinās business. To add insult to injury, the factory construction disconnected the muffler shop from the city sewage lines. An indifferent city government then chose to fine Marvin for this.
His business and livelihood were in ruin. Rather than lie down and die, Marvin chose to fight back. Over the course of a year and a half Marvin secretly outfitted the bulldozer he bought to save his business with three foot thick steel and concrete armor, camera systems guarded with bulletproof glass.
On June 4th 2004 Marvin Heemeyer lowered the armored shell over top of himself, entombing himself inside the Killdozer to make his last stand.
He burst fourth from the walls of his muffler shop and straight into the concrete factory that ruined his business. Over the course of the next several hours Marvin drove his Killdozer through 13 buildings owned by those officials that had wronged him, including the city council building itself.
Swat teams swarmed the dozer, but it proved immune to small arms fire and even explosives. Another piece of heavy machinery was even brought out to fight the Killdozer, but it too fell to the dozers righteous fury.
In the end, Marvinās Killdozer became trapped in one of the buildings it was built to destroy. Marvin chose to take his life, the only life he took that day.
Today we celebrate Killdozer day and Marvin Heemeyer, the last great American folk hero. A man driven to the brink who chose to fight back against an indifferent system.
From notes left behind after his passing:
āI was always willing to be reasonable until I had to be unreasonable. Sometimes reasonable men must do unreasonable things.ā
HAPPY KILLDOZER DAY EVERYONE.
Hero. Plain and simple. If only his memory we are deserved of.
So, He WearsĀ Feminine Things
This is addressed to the wife, partner, girlfriend or other who has just discovered that the man in your life secretly wears feminine lingerie at times. Quite how you discovered this is not important, so much as how you react to it. That in turn will depend on a number of variables including your upbringing, your faith, your education, and your expectations of your relationship.
The revelation is probably a shock and leaves you with a turmoil of feelings and questions. Is he gay? Is he having an affair. Does he not love me?
First, calm down and realize that it is unlikely to be the end of your world or the end of your relationship. Your man cross dresses, expressing a deep seated feminine side of him that you did not know about because he has endeavoured to keep it a secret from you, fearing to damage a relationship he holds as very important to him.
Interestingly, men who cross dress are far more common than one would think. It is not a perversion but an expression of something that is a part of him, something he probably realized as a teen or young man and something that he has likely been ambivalent about ever since, cycling through guilt and grudging acceptance several times over.
There is in fact a wide scale between what our culture has tended to simplify as a binary system of āmaleā and āfemaleā. Your man is a little way along that scale, to all intents and purposes a male and comfortable to be so, but with an added feminine component which our culture provides very little way for him to express. Ironically, women in our modern culture can dress either in frilly feminine clothes or very masculine clothing without comment. The same latitude is not given to men, and should they publicly wear anything that is in the slightest feminine, they are called āsissiesā, āqueersā or other insulting names. Cruelly, our culture has defined āmenā in a very narrow and confining way.
Interestingly, our native, indigenous culture has long recognized āTwo Spiritā people, further recognizing that such people have value among them as those with an empathy for, respect for and understanding of both primary genders. Such people are respected, not reviled.
Is he having an affair? No, those feminine items are not souvenirs of some sordid affair. He likely bought these things, one by one, on those rare occasions that the opportunity arose. He keeps these things hidden somewhere, fearing your reaction if discovered.
Is he gay? Some cross dressers are, but most are not so inclined. However, cross dressers are often attracted to other men who cross dress, when dressed, though not to men dressed as men. There is a long term for this condition, likely odd to you.
Does he still love you? Yes. Ironically, statistics show that the majority of cross dressers in a steady relationship greatly value their relationship with their partner. This increases
their fear of damaging this relationship. Most cross dressers yearn to be better understood by their partners
The worst thing you can do is to insist your man throw away his stash of feminine clothes and promise never to even think of doing such a thing ever again. He will promise. He values you highly. He will try to keep such a promise. But he will not be able to in the long run. You will simply have driven him further into the depths of the closet.
The better alternative is to accept the situation, recognizing that this is not going to go away and that there is some wisdom in the old adage āif you canāt beat them, join themā. The vast majority of cross dressers are āsometimesā dressers, with no wish to live full time as women.
One response could be to accept that your man needs to occasionally express his feminine side, give him specific opportunities to do so, but state that you do not wish to be directly involved. It would likely be a huge relief for him to shed the cloak of secrecy, no longer fearing your unexpected early return home and the trauma of discovery.
Another response is to take an active role. Some partners help their men when shopping for clothes, either in the store or online. Some partners enjoy secretly knowing what their man is wearing under male outer clothes while out visiting with friends or at dinner and a show. Some couples buy matching sets of underwear or nightwear and enjoy wearing them together. Some incorporate cross dressing into their sex life, role playing and enjoying sex while fully or partly dressed. The range of possible responses is wide. Outright rejection is an unwise choice and will inevitably sour or ultimately ruin your relationship.
That your man is less of a man than other men you know is a false supposition. Think of him as more than a man. The current terminology is ill defined and confusing, but think of him as a man who has a female persona beneath the surface, perhaps well hidden but yearning to be expressed.
Yes, there is a risk in opening any door into your relationship. A few cross dressing men ultimately cross a threshold and seek to live full time as women, perhaps entering new relationships with others similarly inclined. A few may even commit to surgical procedures that confirm their new gender identity.
But, this essay addresses the vast majority of men who seek āsometimesā to express a feminine side of themselves that is suppressed by our western culture. They seek to be better understood, not vilified. Please give them space to be who they fully are.
PS Readers, if you can use this letter yourself or know of someone to whom this would be helpful, please feel free to repost or copy.
